Alabama Educator Code of Ethics The Alabama Educator Code of Ethics is designed for every educator in the state of Alabama. The Code must be implemented for the safety of students and educators. The goal of the Alabama Code of Ethics can be accomplished as long as all educators value the worth and dignity of all students, parents, and staff. There are nine Alabama Educator Code of Ethics and Standard 1: Professional Conduct, Standard 4: Teacher/Student Relationship and Standard 5: Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco Use of Possession are the most important standards. Using drugs or alcohol during professional practice can cause harm to the student or teacher. Alcohol and drugs have different side effect which can cause sever danger for students or colleagues. Educator should never provide students with any illegal unauthorized drugs. Not only providing student with illegal drugs is violating the code of ethics but it also against the law. Drugs should not be on the school premise or at any school related activity. Example, teachers should not have alcohol or drugs at a school football game or a field trip. Teacher should follow the code of ethics and refrain from using drug or alcohol on the school premise of school related activities. Conclusion Standards 1, 4 and 5 are the most important standard of the code of ethics that all teachers must follow. Standard 1 having a professional conduct should demonstrated by all educators. Standard 4 teacher/student relationship should be conducted inside and outside the classroom. Standard 5 all educators should abide by the code of ethics of refrain from all use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol during school and school related activities. Engineering is one of the largest, most diverse and progressive professions. It is a highly respected profession. It guards public health and safety and is always in the best interest of society by attempting to improve the quality of life. With all professions, there are always circumstances where the image could be jeopardized. From the code of ethics, I will be discussing and analyzing article 77-7-IV. This article states: “A practitioner shall not attempt to gain an advantage over other practitioners by paying or accepting commission in securing professional engineering work”1. In other words this article relates to the term known as bribery, which is the act of persuasion which results in an advantage to one party, typically illegally or dishonestly.
After reading a story in my local newspaper about a Spanish teacher taking inappropriate pictures of females in the school he taught at, I must ask the question how can every educational environment assure all students are safe from any violation as this at all times? What can the educational system, law enforcement, as well as stronger legislation do to protect our children against abuse and/ or negligence. As the article reports, this teacher was caught with inappropriate pictures of females on his iPad. He was immediately suspended, although with pay pending investigation, was charged with 14 counts of invasion of privacy and put in jail with a 10,000-bail sentence (Kohut, 2018). Friendships may be formed; however, having professional interactions is something that is not always followed. In terms of patient confidentiality, we may not realize that a HIPPA violation has occurred due to a friendly conversation with coworkers. If a patient were to overhear their nurse discussing their information in an unprofessional manner, then it may cause issues with a patient’s dignity and their rights. If a patient’s right is violated, then it can lead to a patient’s mistrust in their caregiver, leading to mistrust in the facilities, and can end with a patient’s health being compromised.
