Aspen Blackburn Intro. to Education 4/7/2014 Special Education The topic I chose to write about is special education. In this paper I will be explaining what special education is, how to as a parent help your child with being in this program, how it helps the children, who you should talk to about getting your child in, expectations, deciding to put your child in special education, and how to take your child out if you are no longer wanting them in this program. Special education is a program set up for kids with special needs that need help. You can be in this program from the day you are born till you are 21 years of age. These kids range from a lot of disabilities like as little as a problem as paying attention to as big as having a handicapped disability. Each student has their own file. And being a part of special education you have to be organized and you have to know what you are doing. You have a bunch of paperwork you have to redo each year. Special Education helps with numerous areas of disability. Each kid has to have a goal they should “reach,” if the goal they had does not get reached that next year when they reevaluate the IEP and set a different goal. This program should help the students get accommodations and modifications. This does not mean that the disabled kids that are in this program are not around their peers. The point of this is so each student gets to experience each other. The students act like role models to each other. And people who are not really around diversity, it gives them a chance to be able to understand. They should be able to socially interact with them. The only time they leave a classroom is if they are having behavioral issues or need to get something read to them. When you decide t... ... middle of paper ... ...e best interest of your child to take them out. But is it really or are you just very insecure? Your child may need this a lot more than you think. You should really rethink your purpose your child is in this program for a reason. And you also went through so much paperwork to get them in. The child had to go through a horrible amount of testing to get where they are. During my research for this paper there was so much I knew about special education already. In our Intro to Education class we talked about a lot with this program. As a teacher you have to have your stuff together so you don’t get the students files mixed up. You also have to know exactly what you are doing. This whole thing can be so stressful. You have to make sure the students goals are not too much. Special Education teachers are hard to find. But when you get one you keep them for a long time.
...n countries are considering the development of a special education system, necessary planning must be implemented to inform and educate all staff members and involvement of researchers to discuss and examine the entire educational program. The most important part of the system must consider the students well-being with the least obstructive involvement in students school and educational life. All factors of the students life must be presented including home life which creates an necessary and crucial involvement of the parents. Inclusion requires constant assessment of practices and results to better inform all parties of student progress. As inclusion becomes more widespread, a collaboration of developers and data must be analyzed to determine specific, effective strategies in creating happy, contributing citizens. (Wisconsin Education Association Council, 2007)
Did you know that over two thirds of special education students receive services for non-mental health issues, among these students 17% have serious behavior as well as emotional issues compared to over 51% of special education students with mental health issues and 4% of students not in special education (Pastor and Ruben)? My research paper will first explain what Special Education actually is and it will focus on the issues that arise when disciplinary actions are called for and what is to be considered the most appropriate and effective forms of discipline in special education. It will also cover the most common issues that arise in special education as well as what strategies are effectively administered to solve these issues. My research paper will also take an in-depth look into special education students with non-mental health issues. It also will look at some misconceptions of special education students.
One obstacle that I believe many special needs students and families will face is understanding and dealing with the disability itself. Speaking from experience, this process can take time to understand and accept. This is where a special education teacher plays a significant role, assisting the student and family with information and support for understanding the student’s disability, facilitating education programs, and most importantly hope and progress for a bright future. Another obstacles that students with disabilities may face, is social interaction and acceptance. It is vital that all special education teachers and programs, try to incorporate strong social connections with their regular education peers and other community members and
Two years ago, I embarked on a journey that would teach me more than I had ever imagined. As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled to finally begin my teaching career in a field I have always held close to my heart. My first two years as a special education teacher presented countless challenges, however, it also brought me great fulfillment and deepened my passion for teaching students with special needs. The experiences I have had both before and after this pivotal point in my life have undoubtedly influenced my desire to further my career in the field of special education.
The students in our classrooms, both special education and general education classrooms, require individualized education to reach their full potential. Each child’s potential is different just as each child’s road to reach it is different. Our job as teachers is to be there for the student’s to help them reach their potential through their own unique way.
Special education is the practice of educating students with special educational needs by addressing their individual needs and differences. This process involves the individually planned arrangements of teaching procedures, adapted materials and equipment, as well as accessible settings designed to help students with special needs to achieve a higher level of education and success. Usually parents who have a child with special needs would like for their child to receive a quality education. People understand when talking about or describing a child with special needs that the child has educational needs, or has learning difficulties or disabilities, for instance it is harder for them to learn than other children. When my oldest son was in 7th grade, he was a little slow to understand when the teacher was lecturing, he was behind in class work and he missed some homework.
What is special education? The common belief is that it a program only dedicated to helping students with disabilities, whether physical or mentally. This is not entirely accurate in regards of what special education is. While special education does provide assistance to students with disabilities ns meet their needs in quality education (Küpper 2009)—the program extends to all students facing difficulties keeping up with the pace of learning (Huerta 2009). This brings the next question onto the table: the importance of special education. Before 1970s, majority of students with disabilities were shun into isolation with little to no education in general classes (Bradley 2016). However, with the passage of Education for All Handicapped Children
IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. An IEP is a written document required for each child who is eligible to receive special education services. It is provided to a student who has been determined first to have a disability, and second, to need special education services because of that disability. An IEP is very important and should never be overlooked by anyone. The purpose of an IEP is to make sure that only students whose educational performance is affected by a disability receive special services. An individual program plan is designed to make sure that students get the kind of educational experience that they deserve; an experience that results in success. The end goals for students who are on an IEP are to be involved in
One purpose of the special education program is to assist children who have special needs with achieving those needs. Being well-organized is an important trait to have when caring for a child with special needs. Children should have a comfortable environment when they are being taught, and the teacher should be able to provide this for his or her students. In a regular class, there can be a very tense environment. The level of tension is oftentimes intensified in classes that involve the teaching of special education. Teachers who specialize in special education should have the ability to make all students comfortable and have coping techniques to aid their students. Many students have unique learning styles. In order to accommodate every student’s needs, a teacher must be able to teach the same curriculum in multiple ways. One of the main roles a teacher portrays is the loving and caring they have for their students. Children must have a teacher who shows how much they care for their students and how they genuinely love them. The role of the special education administrative organization is to supply an educational environment that is the most productive for those with special needs. Those who teach special education provide a support system for their students. Teachers need to be trained to educate special needs students in order to grant them the best education they can receive. Special education is a process of expanding the education system to contribute to every child’s educational needs. Teachers must be adaptable in order to maintain control if a child has an outburst in class. Modeling adaptability is important because children with special needs often need to lean how to adapt to their surroundings, based on their disability. “Special education teachers are an integral part of the educational process. It takes a

...uire to development special education systems and inclusive programs, must be able to accept the possibility for total reconstruction of their current system. The administrators must plan extensive training to all members of the organization to better inform, educate and implement the desired program or system. As inclusion becomes more widespread, research and data must be analyzed to determine specific, effective strategies in creating successful systems for the school, community and most of all, people with disabilities (Wisconsin Education Association Council, 2007). Once there is appropriate research and data to show positive outcomes and strategies for offering effective inclusive education, educators and administrators must make the best of what information is currently available today and continue creating equal opportunities to quality education for all.
Unfortunately, my hypothesis of having an equal opportunity for all students to learn would prove to be fallacious, special education schools do not receive the same respect or funding as general education. I believe that the failure stems from the individual institutions. If the school and staff do not show support and be an advocate for special education programs, the local, state, and federal government will follow suit. Like every agency, it must grow and change with the current economic and sociologic state that it is in, the current school platform and regulations are outdated and inappropriate for the needs of these special students.
What is special education? The definition of special education is complex and varies from state to state. The purpose of special education is to provide students with disabilities specially designed instruction to help them meet and reach their full potential. Special Education requires continuing planning, assessing, and monitoring of goals and curriculum used to meet their needs. To understand the importance of special education, we will look at the history of education and treatment of individuals with disabilities. What we now call general education has been around for nearly four hundred years. John Cotton established the first school in 1635 where Latin and Greek was taught. Even with the establishment of schools, many students were taught
Special education is an incredibly important, but often underappreciated aspect of education. There is a stigma around individuals with disabilities, that leads people to assume those in special education are less capable or smart as their peers in in a strictly traditional classroom setting. That could not be farther from the truth though, and the individuals in special education are just as capable of learning and maturing in to successful adults. As a future teacher, I was not really aware of how little I knew about special education until I enrolled in this course. This course has helped change and shape my views of special education, and helped me gain a better understanding of what exceptional children are and how I can better serve them
