Education, this nine letter word is one of the most important concepts that our society has built itself upon. Going through school and attaining higher degrees and diplomas is what people spend about ¼ of their life doing. Although it is a very time consuming task to go to school for ¼ of your life, it is very worth it. In the United States, without a proper education one is limited in what they can do to make a living. In 2015 it is estimated that 65% of jobs require a college degree or higher (Georgetown). This means that the curriculum being taught should be effective and pertaining to the goal of going to college.
In a school setting, what is being taught (the curriculum) is very important to the teachers and students of the school. The most underlying reason being that this is what they will spend the next 12 years in school learning and teaching. Everyone has different perception of what a curriculum is and how they feel it should be taught. Personally, the best definition is the classes being provided as well as what is being taught. Students are subjected to test after test by the district or state to test their level of skill. Although this sounds tedious it actually helps the school determine what programs you should be in, such as the cats program. This can help students who need harder classes get what they need as well as helping those struggling. However sometimes test giving can get out of hand such as in Florida. In 2014 it was estimated that about 52% of tests given were issued by the district with less than half being from the state (Americanprogress.org). This caused the students to become overwhelmed with the amount of standardize tests and made the students more stressed out.
