First and foremost, Edgar Allan Poe was considered to be a darker man. Poe has a spooky mindset in my opinion. As was previously stated my opinion of Edgar Allan Poe is based on his writing style. We learn after Poe has already passed away he may have had a lesion on his brain. The lesion definitely could explain why he is a bit different and talks about death a lot. The fact that a lot of people in Poe’s life die, could have had an effect on him psychologically.

Secondly, we know Poe did not know his parents very well. Edgar Allan Poe’s parents were both actors. His father left him and his mother died of tuberculosis. Edgar Allan Poe then went to live with his foster parents John Allan and his wife. John Allan was …show more content…

A lot of time our “killer” or main character tells our story in first person. Edgar Allan Poe also creates a dark atmosphere in which the story takes place. To include The Cask of Amontillado, takes place in the catacombs (a wine cellar) underground and Montresor mentions the fact it's wet. Considering it is underground I really do not think it is really bright and lively. Continuing on Poe also created some tortuous characters to tell the story. One similarity being, both of our narrators are crazy. In The Tell-Tale Heart, the main character commits murder over someone's eye. In The Cask of Amontillado our main character kills someone as revenge we don't really know the whole story, but he clearly put a lot of thought into it. We know some amount of thought was put in because our narrator of The Cask of Amontillado waited until he knew Fortunato was drunk and gullible. The setting of The Cask of Amontillado is in Italy during Carnevale, under ground in the catacombs. The Tell-Tale Heart occurs at night and it's also dark at a man's house. Relating back this all ties in with the dark “atmosphere”. We know they both were not right in the head because of the wording and their justifications. We know morally it's not right to kill someone because of their eye and it’s not right to kill someone as revenge. Also in the name of morals they both killed and one body was cut up and placed under the floorboards (The Tell-Tale Heart), whereas the other was left to die behind a wall with no supplies (The Cask of Amontillado). Finally referring back to how many deaths he had in his life could be why he writes about so many people
