It was a way of reassuring myself that in the end, it would all be worth it.” (Pinero,2017) After falling in love with writing short scripts, Eddie shifted his business model to focus on writing speeches. Anyone who plays baseball would think it is hard to imagine that a person born without a right arm is able to play the game and let only be able to be a pitcher. Jim Abbott faces all the odds and has ten-year career in the major leagues. Abbott had to faces many obstacles throughout life and his playing career. Competition with others can cause us as individuals to want to better ourselves and make us strive to improve positively. It allows us to assess what we can change and develop in education and or experience. My colleague Hailey La Fave comments, “ I’m constantly trying to better others and their venues trying to get people to come to mine. This to me, is positive, because everyday I'm trying to better myself with my promoting and helping the venue grow. So my competition results in better sales and bigger shows.” In making this comment, Hailey points out that the competition she feels within her job positively affects her and gives her the drive to improve business for herself and her co-workers. Therefore, because she feels compelled to help draw in more business and make more profit she feels self satisfaction within herself when the company does well. Not only does Hailey’s personal experience illustrate the improvement that can occur within ourselves from competition, so does this quote from Empowher magazine, the journalist Darlene Oakley states, “Wayne Gretzky, Steve Jobs, and Nelson Mandela didn’t become the best at what they did or achieve what they did by staying the same. They worked, and strove, and experienced failure and setbacks many times before becoming the people we now revere them for being.” Darlene is saying here, that empowering people of our nation haven’t made self progress by allowing their faults to stop them but in fact allowing it to help them become the people they are recognized as today and will be for the rest of time. Because of their struggles and feats with competition they have found ways to improve themselves and make contributions to the world. In conclusion, by the motivation from competitors both Hailey, and the influential men have made personal accomplishments and strive to
The TED Talk “Why 30 is not the new 20” by Meg Jay, was a powerful and successful speech. Jay delivers an inspirational message to twenty-year-olds to not waste away important years of their life in an unmeaningful relationship or career. Instead she stresses the importance of searching for a life-long partner sooner rather than later in life. She also talked about taking career risks while still young, because these opportunities will likely be indefeasible later in life. Jay 's main points were very effective in persuading one to consider living by this set of social standards. It is clear that Meg Jay is an experienced public speaker, because of how well the overall presentation was. She does all of the basics perfectly, such as standing

Speeches functioned as great tools for inspiring and motivating people. A passionate and charismatic speaker could often change a group of people’s view of the world with just a short speech. A perfect example of this phenomenon can be seen in the leaders of religious groups such as Matthias and Joseph Smith. These two men both possessed the ability to make people pi...

One person cannot tackle the vast amount of issues of today and change the world. With so many injustices that occur in today’s society we can’t help but feel overwhelmed as to what people, as citizens of the world, can do to make the world an exceptional environment. Many believe the task is either too large and intimidating to face head on, or they don’t want to face the possibility of failure and criticism. We have the idea of taking on enormous tasks and expect change almost immediately, however, it’s not the anticipated outcome. Real change starts when one contributes to their community; the smallest of impacts generate the biggest changes in the long run.
For example, in John F. Kennedy’s “Ich bin ein Berliner,” he uses words purposefully, claiming, “When all are free, then we look -- can look forward to that day when this city will be joined as one and this country and this great Continent of Europe in a peaceful and hopeful globe” (Kennedy). By stating that not everyone has freedom under communism, he intends to convince the world that communism negatively affects the population in order to motivate his audience to escape from their comfort zones and feel obligated to help make a change. Without people who created speeches like Kennedy’s, citizens would not feel very determined and succeed in overcoming global issues. Kennedy made this speech during the same time period as Faulkner’s—the Cold War era. Although Faulkner’s speech was not actually focused on worldwide issues, his hints toward encouraging the anti-Communist side of the world to stand up for themselves reveal his underlying intentions. While simultaneously describing “the writer’s duty,” he fulfills what he believes to be his own duty by implementing references to the state of the world into his speech. Writers and speakers spread information to a vast number of people without even meeting their audience face-to-face, therefore it is their responsibility to take on a bigger role than simply writing about small, less meaningful topics. Instead, they should write in order to promote motivation in their audience as much in addition to expressing their own ideas. In a world where not many humans earn the opportunity to express their thoughts and beliefs on such an immense scale, writers must use their abilities to spread information that benefits the

Like I already said, there’s no way to make a change from one day to another. Great things take time, dedication and collaboration. I can’t wait to get to know people with different interest and concerns that I have. Because once you pull different points of view together it is easier to create a real opportunity to make a change in the world. Tomorrow leaders would be those who have the chance, capacity and the critical thinking to confront every kind of social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.
