“Mr. McClellan, you will be late if you do not leave in forty six seconds,” rang out the house’s helpful voice. We do this every morning and I’m never late, I thought, it’s starting to get annoying. After hastily kissing my wife’s cheek, I stepped into the cylindrical tube that teleports me to work every morning. This morning had been like any other. Log my fingerprint to show that I arrived at work. Grab a coffee and get looked at strangely because I don't eat Soylent. The only different thing was the secret service agent standing front of the CIA’s seal. It was seal next to my office door. I could tell he, I believe his name is Jim, was waiting to talk to me. I walked closer and as Jim leaned in, his breath warm on my neck, and told me the …show more content…
Michael’s cover could be blown. I could get an undercover agent killed for a plan that might not work. I told him to get the whoever was in charge of this horrendous threat and heard him call out in a language I barely recognized. Then I saw her. She was the one person who hated me most. She ‘d aged, but looked scarily similar to how she had looked twenty years ago. “You look surprised, Ian,” Alexa said, smirking, “ You knew I was alive.” I was still in a state of shock. She looked happy. Alexa seemed happy that she was about to cause so much destruction. I could not believe any of this. I knew what I did, why she was angry, but to become a leader of an organization that wanted to ruin the United States, that was going to far. “ You have a right to be upset,” I remarked through clenched teeth, “but killing innocent people to serve your vendetta, it isn’t right.” I tried to reason with her, but I felt all hope leave me. Even through the terrible visuals on the hologram, I knew she was getting angrier. It would be hard to convince Alexa of anything when she’s furious. I remembered that much from our time spent together. “You took everything from me, Ian. Don’t even try to pretend you're sorry. You're in charge of the organization that took my family from me. I could never do you that favor. You will soon understand what I’ve been

Should alcohol be considered a drug?. The columnist, Anna Quindlen, discusses this question with a strong position in her article "The drug that pretends it isn 't", published on April 9, 2000. During her argument Quindlen tries to convince her audience with rhetorical features about her concerns with alcohol, referring to it as a "habitual drug of choice". In a very supportive organization of her claim, she emphasizes that alcohol is a substance that facilitates terrible consequences to the public and for this reason, she justifies that it should be banned . Throughout the article, reinforcing her opinion, she explains about the repercussions that alcohol creates; refuting with relevant statistics that demonstrates a high rate of alcohol abuse related problems, as well as the disturbing effect on the country 's economy. Nevertheless, Quindlen uses a critical but also sarcastic tone during her writing, questioning and criticizing why society prefers to pay attention to illicit drugs, and
How would you feel if you came to school one day and found out your friend had died overnight of a drug overdose? Then imagine the entire school were forced to relive this experience and perform it for the whole school community. This situation, excluding the performance, occurs all too often in Australian high schools and is an issue that Chris Lilley explores through his controversial, satirical comedy, ‘Summer Heights High’.
Happiness can mean many different things to many different people. A hard worker may define it as completing a difficult task. A hopeless romantic may define it as finding true love. A religious person may define it as achieving a specific level of spirituality. Webster’s definition of happiness is “good fortune; a state of well-being and contentment; a pleasurable or satisfying experience.” Some synonyms included for happiness are bliss, felicity, joy, and ecstasy. It is therefore obvious how the euphoria-inducing amphetamine relates to its name. People that are uneducated in the area of drugs may associate ecstasy only with the issue of substance abuse. However, to fully understand ecstasy and all its related topics, it is vital to identify the chemical structure and history of MDMA, the corresponding effects, and then the recreational abuse.
Throughout “Chasing the Scream” many intriguing stories are told from individuals involved in the drug war, those on the outside of the drug war, and stories about those who got abused by the drug war. Addiction has many social causes that address drug use and the different effects that it has on different people. In our previous history we would see a tremendous amount of individuals able to work and live satisfying lives after consuming a drug. After the Harrison Act, drugs were abolished all at once, but it lead to human desperation so instead of improving our society, we are often the reason to the problem. We constantly look at addicts as the bad guys when other individuals are often the reasons and influences to someone’s decision in
“Wilson,” I called out, receiving no response. “Wilson?” He stayed slumped in the chair, eyes casted on the ground, refusing to make eye contact or any other sign of acknowledgement. “Wilson!” I yelled, causing him to flinch, his eyes finally meeting mine. There was sadness clear as day in his eyes, but no, he did not deserve to be sad. He did not have any reason. He didn’t love her. He couldn’t provide for her. Not like I could- or would.
As I read this book, at first I felt a temptation to try ecstasy due to
I waited in line for nearly an hour and a half. I finally reached the entrance and I was asked to raise my arms, while I was patted down and my pockets, socks and cigarettes were checked. I felt like I was about to meet the President, with the intense security. As I finally entered the club, the suspense began to rise. This was my first time at a rave party. I looked around and saw people dressed in colorful, bright clothing, holding glow sticks and bottles of water. The music was incredible: loud, energetic and throbbing with bass. The party was called "Adrenaline," and lasted until 8:00 a.m. People were dancing all around and the place was packed. It was extremely difficult to make a trip to the bathroom or attempt to buy a drink. My friends and I decided to check out the place before began our journey into the rave scene. Every room had a different D.J., which made this party particularly diverse. As we are walking through, at least ten different people, all males, asked me if I was looking for any pills. My answer was no, for all of the above, but to my amazement these people never gave up. I couldn't believe the risk the "ravers" were taking to make some cash. My curiosity began to get the best of me…. I am looking around and everyone is completely happy, smiling, hugging, kissing- it was unbelievable the amount of content in a club filled with about 5,000 plus people. I wanted to be apart of this trend and know the happiness that they knew. At one point a girl approached me, wearing a pink wig, bunny ears, tons of creative makeup and an outfit that was colorful and bright. I asked her if she was on "E" and she nodded without hesitation. I asked her, " How do you feel?...
The NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON DRUG ABUSE defines the drug Ecstasy (MDMA) as a synthetic, psychoactive drug that is chemically similar to the stimulant methamphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. The drugs clinical name is MDMA (3, 4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine). Psychoactive drugs are considered mind-altering drugs and ecstasy’s chemical structure is similar to other synthetic drugs that are known to cause brain damage. (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2009) Although Ecstasy was not made illegal until 1985, most research indicates its original intended use was that of an appetite suppressant, which was developed in 1912 by the German pharmaceutical company Merck. However, further research refutes that statement and there is substantial documentation alleging that Merck never intended to use ecstasy (MDMA) as an appetite suppressant, but rather as a means of evading present patents for haemostatic substances; substances used to stop the flow of blood and promote clotting. (The Author’s Journal, 2006) Ecstasy (MDMA) is created in laboratories in the form of a pill, which varies in color, shape, and size; most are branded with various symbols to represent and promote a specific seller or type of pill.
The rave scene. It’s becoming a popular way to ‘kick-back’ for high school and college kids. “Everyone” is doing it at parties. Unfortunately, this party isn’t all fun and games.
MDMA, also known as Ecstasy, beans, rolls, or just plain X. This drug has a long history, which began almost 90 years ago. In 1912 Merck, a German pharmaceutical company, first synthesized MDMA (Erowid). MDMA was then patented in 1913 or maybe 1914 (patent #274.350) by the same German company supposedly to be sold as a diet pill (The Invention). The patent has no mention of any intended uses of the drug. There are other urban legends associated with Ecstasy, such as in 1953 the US Army tested MDMA as a possible truth serum, but there is no evidence for this (Saunders).

Hallucinogens are mind altering drugs known to change one’s perception of their environment, their feelings, and thoughts as well as causing hallucinations. Stimulants are known to increase alertness, wakefulness, as well as improve mental functions. The synthetic drug Ecstasy (also knowns as Molly or MDMA) is one of the most commonly used drugs at raves, or Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festivals because it creates similar mind-altering effects seen in hallucinogens and stimulants. This drug can increase the festival-goers experience of the EDM festival. While an overall ban of drugs at raves is difficult to achieve, more can be done by rave organizers to increase public safety at these events.
...ing and with laughter. And I sighed in another successful act of duplicity. And I thought about Black. I know what he felt deep inside. The hopelessness, the resentment, the agony of going insane. I bet deep inside he was thinking what most people here think in this dystopia of relentless rules. When they reach their demise they’d think “ The punchline to the joke is screaming “Somebody help us”. I looked over back again to that crowd. Took my scripted paper and crumpled it up. I don’t want that. No. I looked into the mirror and saw so many faces I couldn't find the one I saw as my own again. I wanted to see my own again. Before the mass death. Before the darkness. These people don’t need this after everything that happened. So I went back to that crowd and decided to make a change in me, this country, and for these people. You decide if that worked out.
