The level of democratization of a country can have an impact on the corruption level. There are multiple variables that can influence both the amount of corruption and the wealth of a nation. These variables-durability, exports, and religion-have different effects on various countries throughout the world. Governments are influenced by these variables, which can be reflected into their policies. A type of government may determine the amount of corruption, which may have economic ramifications. An autocratic regime is structured differently than that of a democratic regime, which may have a negative impact. Authoritarian regimes typically only have one or less political parties, and that helps create a centralized government. Total control of the economy falls under the government and that can allow a government to do as they want with an economy. Thus, an autocratic regime is more likely to be corrupt and have a lower GDP.
Corruption does vary across different regions, and regions may be more corrupt than others. This could be due to the effects of multiple variables on a government, which would influence political policy and economic development. Developmental countries may be more corrupt than developed countries or a country that has been democratized for a long period of time could have less corruption.
Understanding the amount of corruption in a country is extremely difficult and very few sources can be trusted. The Transparency International Organization provides corruption data on numerous countries based on first-hand accounts of acts of corruption by public sector officials. Transparency International (TI) provides corruption ratings and ranks the countries based on the government’s interactions with the public secto...

...ieved to be harmfull to economic growth, and research has shown that growth is directly effect by believed corruption (http://www.jstor.org/stable/30035860). Many would expect benefits that would come from the corruption, and the corruption that would occur in the government would be for personal gain. Use of the government for personal gain could be as simple as a bargain between a government official and someone of the private sector. The private sector may benefit from the protection of the government, which could deter competition from other businesses. Deterring competition from entering a sector can reduce quality and increase the price of products. State features such as taxes, grants, and regulation can also influence the wealth of a nation. The features of a government can influence a GDP, and not every system of government has policies that increase GDP.
“Political corruption is the use of power by government officials for illegitimate private gain.” This can lead to the downfall of societies because when citizens find out, they won’t have any respect for their government/leaders because of the bad things they do. Lack of respect can cause riots/outbreaks in cities.
Corruption is commonly defined as “being dishonest or illegal behavior, especially by powerful people (such as government officials or police officers)” according to Merriam-Webster.com. However, although defined, corruption cannot be measured. Without measurement of this ten letter word, it becomes troubling within jurisdiction’s law abiding citizens live in. As a result, hysteria, panic and doubts arise which are only a few out many reactions the public makes. With the press only stirring greater chaos, corruption is never completely solved, which is why it must be confronted and measured before it’s too late. If not it’ll only continue to linger throughout media headlines and forums, but also the society, it conclusively affected and left a mark on for example, Pageland, SC.
In today’s light, the Progressive Era is seen as a time period where people’s lives changed for the better, but none of that change would have been possible without muckrakers exposing the numerous problems that lied hidden from the American public. With the corruption of government officials, dangerous and unhealthy working conditions for young children, and poverty-ridden slums in cities, this article aims to expose three of the most prominent problems of the Progressive Era.
Death and decay often convey corruption within a story. The use of this particular imagery allows one to make a connection between the natural world and the nature of people. Throughout Hamlet, a play, set in Denmark, which was written in the early seventeenth century by William Shakespeare, there are several instances where one sees decay depicting corruption. Though this play is filled with massive images of decaying nature, it is also filled with images of nature in its beautiful state. Because Hamlet portrays decaying and developing nature, it shows one that it is possible to maintain a sense of self in a world that strives on corruption.
Some people may think that money doesn't corrupt people and that corruption is something that can be controlled by human choice, but money affected the social acceptance of people, it corrupted the thought process of the upper percentage of people, the wealthy people that don't accept the less wealthy because of a social barrier they feel can't be passed, the younger brother that gets rich and feels like his whole family is trying to take his money, the greed that comes along with wealth causes corruption.
Corruption is a persistent problem that plagues the world and it knows no boundaries. Transparency International defines it as the “abuse of entrusted power for private gain” (2013). For the purposes of this thread, ‘corruption’ is defined as any individual, collective, or structural act or process that permits the use of public authority or position for private gain. This definition captures the broad and many ways individuals and institutions abuse power and the public trust. In regard to whistleblowing, much conflict stems from the context in which the whistleblower is viewed.
Corruption consists in the illegitimate agreement between a corruptor and a corrupted, in which they abuse of their public power in order to obtain personal benefit. Bribery and corruption is something that has been going on for years. According to Allen, “officials perceive themselves as immune to any penalties for demanding and receiving bribes” which she states that it is one of the main reasons for bribery and corruption in underdeveloped countries. According to Transparency International, an organization committed exclusively to end corruption, three of the most corrupt countries in the world are Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan. This does not mean that corruption is only seen in underdeveloped countries. In international business, corporate employees often find themselves dealing with corruptors in foreign countries and, in most cases, they will give in.
Political instability and corruption is a major impact on growth. The rule of law and appropriate enforcement is needed to create an established system of honesty and loyalty in society. Corruption is people acting in an official capacity of trust and responsibility misusing their position for private gain. When there is this sense of corruption many things are affected. Corruption discourages investment due to lack of business ethics. There is an increase in tax evasion as well as an increase in more “tax burdens” for the poor which is inherently wrong. Corruption leads to an unfair allocation of resources. If contracts go to the highest bidder, as opposed to the most efficient producer, then there is market failure and resources are being misallocated. If often sustains inefficient producers by shielding them from competition. Finally, Corruption means that officials will often divert public investment into capital projects where bribes are more likely. This reduces the quality of government services for the population. The monetary gains from corruption are often moved out of the country. This is a form of capital flight and it reduces the capital available for internal use.
The existence of bribery and unethical behavior is rampant in the world market and may not change overnight. The question of bribery has been distilled in business literature as a question of ethics. In this situation at the airport with the customs officer, it is important to distinguish between business ethics and personal ethics. In a business ethics situation, the Foreign Corruption Practices Act would prohibit offering any bribe to the custom office – for example to free a shipment of goods that was lost in red tape (Pitman & Sanford, 2006). Most companies also have policies against bribery as well. In this situation, however the main issue at hand is that of personal ethics. When in a situation where your company is unknown and there is no business being conducted, normal business ethics and laws (including FCPA) do not apply only personal ethical standards.

Every citizen wishes to have a country where there is transparency. A transparency - that shows the unity and equality among the law, the officials and, of course, for its people is what most of them desire; that can somehow lessen the problems in supporting the needs of others; that helps to broadcast the income and the expenditures of the country; that warns its people that they are living in a democratic country; a way for the nation’s citizens to see the activities of the elected officials; and, of course, a key that somehow lessen the corruption in the government. However, even this transparency is being practiced the saddest part is that, not all officials are aware of this. This is the reason why corruption in the Philippines is one of the major dilemmas that they are still facing.
