Dubai has went from being your average typical regional city, to becoming a globally know city in such a short amount of time. From conducting my research I have learned that some call it “Manhattan-on-speed”, “A skyline on crack”, or even “A capitalists dream on steroids.” Dubai has become a primary destination for Multinational Corporations, causing migrant workers from all around the world to flee here. Majority of these workers come from South Asian countries, however some come from others as well. In Dubai, nothing is done without a statement. If you were to just walk outside and look up at all the different architectural designs on the buildings you would be able to see that.

The city shown in the background of the photograph is Dubai, the second largest city in the state of United Arabs Emirates. However, one may be wondering, how a city came to be in that desert environment. The answer is in the natural resources the country has. The oil boom in the Middle East has led to great economic growth making some Arabian nations to become more westernized and industrialized.
Dubai – the land of dreams, lavishness and vivacity, has always beguiled tourists, travelers, vacationers and backpackers from across the world. From the majestic high-rises like Burj Khalifa to vacant desolation, from the scorching desert to the snow skating rink, Dubai has always offered a wide range of opportunities for someone looking. However, travelling around Dubai and witnessing its rich heritage takes more than paying to the local travel agent. Further, not doing enough research will only disappoint your for the price you pay.

His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates, or UAE, stated, “The greatest use that can be made of wealth is to invest it in creating generations of educated and trained people.” From its conception, the United Arab Emirates was founded on the importance of education. Since it’s founding in 1971, the small country’s population has risen to over nine million people. This dramatic rise in population was a cause for the dramatic investment the countries government has put into its education system. In 1975, the rate of adult literacy was 54% among men and 31% among women, while today, literacy rates f...

The data collected was per capita, Qatar’s number ranked at $129,726. (3. INSERT CITATION). As it turns out, Qatar hasn't always been this successful. The nation could almost be derived as the “little brother” of the United Arab Emirates. “Saudi Arabia’s immense oil wealth and leading role inOPEC conferred international attention on it, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had Abu Dhabi and Dubai, whose vibrant growth seemingly transformed these two emirates overnight into global cities and centers of business, finance, and tourism. But Qatar and its central city Doha seemed lost in the middle.”(4. INSERT

Many employees in Dubai have a different opinion on how the Expo 2020 might affect the country. Abdulla Al Majeed, currently employed at Etisalat, argues how the Expo has its pros and cons. One benefit is that Dubai will have many foreign visitors which will cause the economy to bloom drastically. Dubai will have approximately 25 million visitors; therefore Dubai will make a large amount of money from all of these visitors. Another benefit is that it will provide approximately 270,000 new jobs in Dubai, as stated by the government of Dubai. While the Expo can be beneficial, one downside to it is that the traffic in Dubai will increase by a large amount. Since 25 million people will be visiting Dubai, all the roads will be packed.

We decided that we would head out and explore what Dubai had to offer to us. We went to have breakfast and decided to go take a city bus tour. On our way there we decided to walk around and just take in the image we were seeing. The sun was shining in the sky, the wind was blowing its natural AC, no cars were honking, and it was just utterly peaceful. Continuing walking, we stumbled upon one of its famous malls. This mall was completely different than the one back home. One of the biggest malls that I have ever seen. This mall was three stories tall, with a movie theater with movies that haven’t come out yet in the U.S. An aquarium filled with different fish, crabs, sea horses, stingrays, and even sharks. This mall, even had a lower level as well with more stores and even a ski lounge right in the middle.
The educational system in Egypt is very interesting. Only some children start at pre-school from the ages four to six, it is only offered through private sectors and is not free. Students then go through what is known as basic education, and is split into two sections. From ages six to twelve all students go to primary school, the first section, and then continue on to preparatory school from ages twelve to fifteen. There are then three types of secondary education that students can go on to complete, which are general, technical, and vocational. The first year of general education prepares students for the two years that follow that. After their first year in general education, students will then be split into humanistic, scientific, or mathematical pathways. General education lasts for three years, however technical and vocational school can last anywhere from three to five years. Education is free and is considered to be a right that is guaranteed by the government, currently students are only required to go to primary school and can choose whether or not they want to go to secondary school. Even though it is required and completely free nearly thirteen percent of children in Egypt, have not even completed primary school. Egypt even ...
One of the most topical subjects regarding the UAE concerns the cost of living. The Economist Intelligence Unit placed Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the 71st and 82nd most expensive cities in the world to live and Mercer HR Consulting placed them at 25th and 30th respectively. The cost of living in Dubai has increased rapidly, and the same is occurring in Abu Dhabi more recently. The cost of living is sure to increase over the coming years, most probably due to accommodation. While rent, on its own, should account for at least 50% of your cost of living (though official cpi figures place it at between 30% and 40%), we felt it important to look at other goods and services available. We have thus put together a spreadsheet of data so that you are able to calculate your own cost of living, should you come to the UAE.

The development and the construction of the Burj Khalifa project began in the year 2004 and the external part was completed in the year 2009.
