From July 1942 to August 1944, Anne Frank, Margot Frank, Mr. Frank, Mrs. Frank, Mrs. Van Daan, Mr. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, and Mr. Dussel all went into hiding in the Secret Annex. Life in the Secret Annex had its up and downs. For example, the eating conditions in the Annex were intriguing. Also, there was a lot of fighting between people in the Annex. Along with the fighting, there was also many relationships between the families. The conditions in the Annex was very interesting.
Eating conditions in the Annex were okay. Since they were in hiding, they could not leave to get food. So, Miep and Mr. Kraler would bring them food, like on page 285. In the beginning, Miep and Mr. Kraler brought them better food, such as bread, cabbage, milk, and other food like that. Later in the story, Mr. Van Daan stole some of the food. The second he

stole the food he was caught by Mrs. Frank, on page 341. Eventually, the food got worse and there was less food. It is mentioned that, on page 342, by Mrs. Frank that the children are getting thinner and everyone is hungry. The eating conditions in the Secret Annex got worse and worse as time went on. With eight people living in close quarters, fighting is definitely going to stir up. One of the first fights that happen is between Anne and Peter. On page 292, Anne and Peter get into a little dispute, because Anne took Peter’s shoe. Another time, on page 295, Anne and Peter have another little fight when Anne mocks Peter. Besides Anne and Peter, Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan were known to have fights. Anne witnesses the first argument between the married couple, on page 298, when they argue about Mr. Van Daan smoking. Plus, Anne talks about, on page 325, how the Van Daans’ “discussions” are getting violent. Lastly, Mrs. Frank and the Van Danns had some verbal fights. Throughout pages 341 and 344, Mrs. Frank gets mad at the Van Danns, because Mr. Van Daan was caught stealing food. The Van Danns try and plead with her, but she gets mad at them. Living in the Secret Annex with eight other people, fighting is bound to occur. Throughout the story, lots of relationships develop.
For example, Anne and Peter hated each other in the beginning. They were always fighting and annoyed by each other, like on pages 292 and 295. But after a while, Anne and Peter started spending more time. They kissed multiple times on pages 340 and 350. Another interesting relationship was Anne and her mother. At first, Anne stated and showed she didn’t love her mother. When Anne got a nightmare, on page 312, she asks for her father when her mother comes and rejects her mother’s kiss. Later on, Anne realizes that she was being rude to her mother and starts loving her. One more relationship is Mrs. and Mr. Van Daan. There was multiple time where they were recorded fighting, like on pages 295 and 298. Also, even though they were married, Mrs. Van Daan flirted with Mr. Frank. For example, on page 298, Mrs. Van Daan talks about how she should have met Mr. Frank before she met her husband while Mr. Van Daan was in the room. Furthermore, on page 297, Mrs. Van Daan flirts with Mr. Frank by showing him her legs. Given these points, there was a lot of relationships in the Secret
Annex. As shown above, living in the Secret Annex was interesting for Anne, Margot, Mrs. and Mr. Frank, Peter, Mrs. and Mr. Van Daan, and Mr. Dussel. For instance, the eating conditions in the Annex were okay. In the Annex, eight people all lived together. With that in mind, fighting can be excepting to stir up. Another key point is relationships, good and bad, between people, were happening. All in all, living conditions in the Secret Annex were interesting.
In the book of Anne Frank there are the Van Daan’s and the Franks. Then there's the people that help them which are Mr. Kraler and Miep. the Van Daan’s and Frank’s are in hiding because they were taking jews to concentration camps and had to go into hiding. They were hiding in a place called The Secret Annex in Amsterdam. In my Essay today I will be talking about who showed courage, compassion, and sacrifice.
Anne Frank was a thirteen year old Jewish girl who was forced into hiding in 1942. Her family and another family, the Van Daans, hid in the back of her father, Otto Frank's office building in what they called the "Secret Annex" for the next two years, until they were discovered by a Nazi group called the Gestapo and arrested. It was during her time in the Secret Annex that Anne wrote in a diary that she had named Kitty, telling it of her experiences in the the annex, reported the position of the war and its most memorible events, and shared her personal feelings on the situation. The diary became an outlet throug...
On an early morning in July of 1942, the Van Daans and Franks meet up for the first time at the annex. All of them are covered in layers of clothing to carry as much to their new home as possible. They are all introduced to each other. Living in the secret annex is Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Margot, and Anne Frank. Mr. Van Daan is a selfish, greedy man. Mrs. Van Daan likes the finer things, thinks pretty highly of herself and adores her husband. Peter is shy, quiet, and just truly doesn’t say much. Mr. Frank is a kind, caring, leading man. Mrs. Frank is motherly, caring, and sweet. Margo does as others say and tries to keep a low-key profile. Anne is wild and unique. She doesn’t let others push her around, and she is very independent. Everyone in the annex is very different.
Wisps of burnt-out curtains drape over shattered window frames, fluttering helplessly like a bird with injured wings. Pieces of wood collapse snapping once they hit the ground. Smoke swirls around in the wind. No sound can be heard except for the occasional sobs escaping the chapped lips of people visiting what is left of their homes. The once busy city of Amsterdam is now nothing but a city of forgotten souls. In 1942, the Franks and the Van Daans moved into a warehouse located in Amsterdam to escape the perilous world outside, where the Holocaust was taking place. Jews like the Franks and the Van Daans had their rights taken away from them. The Gestapo, the police working for the Nazis, rounded up people to be sent to concentration camps, where people worked to death. Margot Frank was one of them. Many Jews had to leave the country to escape, while the two families, and later on a man named Dussel, lived on the top floor of the warehouse called the Secret Annex. Living in such a small space and having sparse food with so many people was not easy. On weekdays, not a noise was to be made otherwise the workmen below would hear them. Food and other items had to be brought in by Miep and Mr. Kraler, who risked their lives to help the members of the Secret Annex. To keep herself company, Anne Frank wrote in her diary almost every day. Later on, her diary was published, and two authors decided that they would write a play based on the published diary, named The Diary of Anne Frank. Goodrich and Hackett created memorable characters in their play. Among these people, Otto Frank stood out, who emerged as a good leader because he put himself before others, made rough decisions when problems rose, and stayed positive and optimistic even dur...
Throughout the holocaust, many Jews survived by going into hiding to escape the harsh fates and realities that would otherwise await the opressed. The Diary of a Young Girl allows readers to witness and experience a small idea of what Jews in hiding during the holocaust suffered. Some may have lost one's life, but Otto Frank, Anne's Frank's father, survived the holocaust through hiding. The secret annex became the shelter for Otto Frank, his family, and several others Jews starting July sixth, 1942(www.annefrank.org). The annex provided a barrier from the Nazis and death camps for two years before the Gestapo discovered the Franks and others and sent the Jews to concentration camps for the remainder of the holocaust(www.ushmm.org). The others in hiding with Frank lost their lives, leaving Otto Frank the sole survivor from the secret annex. His time in hiding happened to save his life, making him a survivor of the holocaust(www.ushmm.org).
Have you ever read the play “The Diary of Anne Frank?” She wrote in a book during the Holocaust. She hid in a place called the “Secret Annex” Mr. Kraler was the man who let the Franks and Van Daans stay in his attic. The theme was “Which characters contribute to them theme people are good at heart.” In the play “ The diary of Anne Frank”, the theme people are good at heart is developed through the characters Miep Gies, Mr.Kraler, and Anne Frank.
Elie Wiesel once said, "Bread, soup - these were my whole life. I was a body. Perhaps less than that even: a starved stomach. The stomach alone was aware of the passage of time." Food rations during the holocaust were close to nothing. People within the work camps were given just enough food to still be able to work. But even then, the portion size was astronomically low. During the Holocaust, food was sparse and what they did get for food was tasteless and unfilling.
When Hitler came to power in 1933, they fled to the Netherlands. In 1940, the Nazi’s invaded the Netherlands. Two years later, they started to deport Jews to camps. Anne Frank’s family hid in a secret annex above her father’s office. They had to remain hidden and stay quiet at all times.
On July 1942, the Frank family lived their own house and Anne’s cat and moved to their hiding place. Their apartment was left in a state of disarray to create the impression that they had left suddenly, and Otto Frank left a note that hinted they were going to Switzerland. As Jews were not allowed to use public transport, they walked several kilometers from their home, with each of them wearing several layers of clothing as they did not dare be seen carrying luggage. In the secret annex, there are two small rooms, with an adjoining bathroom and toilet, were on the first level, and above that a larger open room, with a small room beside it.
Imagine what it would have been like to be cooped up in an attic during the Holocaust, with only very little space eight people in one little attic. For the Franks and the Van Danns it was eight people and a cat for most the time. With no one to talk to they have to keep everything in, unless they write it. In “The Diary of Anne Frank” the two families live this way. Anne and Peter were two of the characters who experienced this. Anne is a teenage girl who has a sister and lives during the Holocaust. Anne also had a lot of friends so she was popular; she loved to read and write in her journal. She was very loud and obnoxious. In Act one Scene two ,Peter says “I was always by myself, while you were in a big crowd of people.” This shows that Anne was very popular and is used to people; while Peter was not used to as much attention and people. Then in Act one Scene three, Mr.Van Dann says, “ Why can’t you be more like your sister Margot?” This proves that the Van Danns like Margot more than they like Anne ; it also proves they think Anne is obnoxious.
Anne’s escaped the Nazis and anti-Semitism and went into hiding in the Annex. During her time in the Annex Anne grew in maturity. Very suddenly she was forced to undergo the change from a fairly free
In the Secret Annexe they were joined by the Van Daan family. There was Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan and their son Peter. Later, a eldery dentist, Alburt Dussel, was invited to share their refuge. The 8 Jews hid in the Secert Annexe for many years. Otto Frank's Dutch friends, brought them food and even gifts. The news in the fall of 1942 was terrifying for the Franks. The roundup of Jews from Holland was proceeding according to plan. While the Franks were in hiding, Germany was at the height of conquest.
With the rise of Hitler, Otto Frank, Anne’s father, moved his family to Amsterdam in order to escape the escalating persecution of Jews. Anne attended Amsterdam's Sixth Montessori School and throughout the 1930s experienced a normal childhood, free of anti-semitism. For her thirteenth birthday, Anne received the diary that would encase her everlasting story. On July 5th, 1942, Anne’s sister, Margot, received a notice to be deported to a work camp, leaving no choice but to go into hiding immediately. The Secret Annex, their place of hiding, was located in Otto’s Amsterdam office....
To survive mentally in times of darkness, one needs a helper to keep them safe. The Franks and Van Daans were hidden in the Secret Annex by Mr. Kraler and Miep. Since, the members of the Secret Annex could not provided food and supplies for themselves, Miep and Mr. Kraler provided supplies for them through illegal means. This shows that others are willing to endanger themselves to help others that are in need. While in Bergen-Belsen, Anne got lice, which was common in the camp, and had to throw away all her clothes, when she went the Janny
On June 12, 1929, at 7:30 AM, a baby girl was born in Frankfort, Germany. No one realized that this infant, who was Jewish, was destined to become one of the worlds most famous victims of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank and B.M. Mooyaart, was actually the real diary of Anne Frank. Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10, 1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building. Anne and her family called it the 'Secret Annex'. Life there was not easy at all. They had to wake up at 6:45 every morning. Nobody could go outside, nor turn on lights at night. Anne mostly spent her time reading books, writing stories, and of course, making daily entries in her diary. She only kept her diary while hiding from the Nazis. This diary told the story of the excitement and horror in this young girl's life during the Holocaust. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl reveals the life of a young innocent girl who is forced into hiding from the Nazis because of her religion, Judaism. This book is very informing and enlightening. It introduces a time period of discrimination, unfair judgment, and power-crazed individuals, and with this, it shows the effect on the defenseless.
