Every day we are always encouraged to eat with family or friends as it gives us a wide-range of benefits and that is true. It is proven that it improves a lot in you when you are eating with a good company. However, at some point in our lives, we just realize that there are inevitable, countless times that we could be eating alone like dinner or breakfast.

Use distractions
It would be easy for you to finish your meal without having the need to sulk at the dining table with the help of certain distractions such as newspaper, smartphones, TV, and such. These distractions will keep your mind off the emotional stress that eating alone comes with which sometimes can worsen your condition.
You can watch your favorite show, learn more on current events, and know the latest updates of friends and family. You can even invite family members and friends over Skype to eat with you. So even if you are alone in your own room, you would not feel lonely at all.

Because emotional health can be related to social support, this means that the young person facing loneliness can be positively affected by being exposed to a social support group. A study of 700 Canadian 13 to 80 -year-olds showed that changes in emotional distress due to loneliness spiked from the early teens to the late teens and early twenties. Going to eat generally begins with an invitation. Although it is acceptable to go down to the cafeteria alone occasionally, it is better to go with friends. Sometimes, a friend will stop by and invite me to go eat, other times I get hungry and go invite someone else. If everyone is busy or has already eaten, then I just go down to the dining hall by myself. But, I try not to let that happen often because it creates a boring meal and makes me look bad. If someone consistently dines alone, others will assume that he or she has no friends to eat with. So, two or three of us will usually go down to eat together.

Previously to taking this class, I had never given much thought to my eating habits. I always thought of the way I chose to eat as one of those things I didn’t need to concern myself with too heavily now because I’m a young broke college student. The way I eat is pretty similar to the way most of my friends eat and when you live away from home, that seems like the norm for people in college. However, after applying what I’ve learned in this class to my life, I’ve realized that the dietary choices I make now affect not only my current health, but my future health as well. So overall, I would say that my eating habits are pretty bad, but I’m working on making them better.
