In the film segment “Earth is born,” shown in class several things were discussed throughout the film. The film initially began with the narrator Neil DeGrasse Tyson, speaking about the Earth in terms of it being a clock. Each time on the clock represented the millions and billions of years that were the Earths initial development. Within the film one of the many factors that were discussed the contributed to Earth’s initial creation and causing it to be the planet we, as a life form, can inhabit was the moon and its creation. The moon was formed from parts of the earth as it was initially a spherical small object floating through space that had not initially been pulled in to any other planets gravitational pull yet. Especially as there is practically no evidence left on the Earth from when it was initially created. Most of the evidence, long gone due to the Earths extremely rocky start though constant meteoric attacks, different life inhabitants, etc. The fact that the moon is essentially a fingerprint of the Earth holds many answers to the mystery and allows science to further go in depth to what things were like for planet Earth billions of years ago. It has been found that the creation of the moon itself was caused by high impact into the planet, the moon has also been determined to be moving further and further away from the Earth which slows down the Earth’s rotation, and lastly that because of the moon the Earth has stable seasons which prevents the planet from either being a big burning wreck which is inhabitable to humanity, or a giant ice ball which is also inhabitable to humanity. Where do we draw the line between freedom and safety? The film The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Robert Wise, broaches this question from a unique perspective and displays many of the pros and cons that must be taken into consideration in order to answer this question. I personally believe in the Young-Earth Creation at the same time not holding fast the first day mentioned in Genesis, including Genesis 1:1-2. There may have been a time difference from Genesis 1:1-2 through Genesis 1:3; however, there is no evidence that states the same. This should not be, however, discordant issues for Christian believers since those who hold the first verse is a different time period, are still being faithful to the scriptures. This allows for what Driscoll and Breshears misname “Historical Creationism.” It is the Young-Earth creationism that is connected to a long line of scholarly interpretations that span centuries’ and have dominated the field. It rather seems unfair for Driscoll to label his view as ‘historic’ when nothing could be further from the truth. Young-Earth view by far is the most accurate view to the reading of Moses’ account of Genesis 1-3.

Frankenstein was written by a woman named Mary Shelley. This story is considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction. Mary Shelley did not have a good life. There were always bad events occurring in Shelley’s life. Before the age of 30, Mary Shelley had lost her mother, sister, father, husband, and three of her four children. She battled depression all of her life and finally died in London at the age of fifty-four. After all of these terrible things that happened to her, people can probably understand how she came up with such a horror story like Frankenstein. In this novel, the main character is Victor Frankenstein. After Victor mother dies, he leaves and goes to England. In England is where he created this monster that he soon regrets. Victor abandons the creature, and the creature makes it his duty to find his creator and wreak havoc along the way. This horrifying sci-fi story could only be written and told by Mary Shelley, an individual that had such a horrible life.

The creation of the earth and all that is within the earth is mysterious, yet miraculous at the same time. Although there are probably hundreds of different accounts, they all seem to be different while almost identical in text. I will be comparing and contrasting between the Priestly account and the Yahwist account in the book of Genesis. Along with these accounts I will be discussing the key elements in the theology of creation and eco-spirituality in the world and the way they fit into my life.
