I carried out an earthquake preparedness assessment of our house considering the fact that our house is located in one of the most earthquake prone regions of the country. I investigated and surveyed each corner of the house based on the checklist. I used various resources from government and other websites to select the appropriate criteria. These earthquakes can be significant enough to cause major property damage. According to the Natural Resources Canada, southwestern BC is to be considered at moderately high to high earthquake risk. Moreover, British Columbia has been a hub of seismic activity of the country as top 10 of the major earthquakes in Canada took place in this region.
Furthermore, Abbotsford is among the top regions that are at the risk of earthquakes along with the Vancouver coast. Hence, living in these areas means that we are under major threat of a natural disaster. Therefore, we need to ensure that we take all the precautionary measures to confront and reduce the impact of any such event. The primary and major steps need to be taken at home by ensuring that our home and we are prepared for the earthquake. As I examined the earthquake readiness of our house, I was shocked that we are ignoring the important steps that need to be taken for the safety of our family. As we live in an earthquake prone region, it is important that our house is prepared for such disasters. The safety and precautionary measures need to be taken, otherwise there will be a continuous threat of physical and property damage in future. Reasonable investment today will reduce future cost and increase safety of the house. Moreover, investment in safety will increase value of the property, possibly increasing market price of the house in future. Hence, there are various positive outcomes of expenditures to make the house more secure. The price for the second alternative will be higher than first option depending on the insurance
