Abstract As early childhood educators we must recognize the importance of observation as a part of our learning about a child development. Theorist such as Jean Piaget, Vygotsky and Sigmund Freud and their input on the domains of child development can assist early childhood educators during our observation of the child. In this research paper I would give you an example of an observation on a child and the importance aspect of observing children where we can guide and identify their strength and weakness. We would also look at other theorist and article which supports observation and child development. In this research paper I will also touch on how the different family cultural background can influence the development of the child’s physical and socio-emotional development. It is essential that educators are familiar with the background of the families, the environment, culture and practices that each child in our care comes from. This helps us to better prepare ourselves in facilitating the holistic development of our students.
