Ghana empire had founders and they were Sonicke. They lived in the Senegal republic. The ideal location of ancient Ghana formed relationships with the North caravans. Since the trade routes were crossing the desert, Ghana’s Kingdom got a lot more money by the gold, the ivory, and the salt. The urban centers got to grow more because the markets allowed them to. It helped people live better and more comfortably. In the beginning of the Muslim era times, twenty-two people themselves took the throne.
Decline and end. After the early eleventh century, the empire started to have a rough time. The leading cities taxes started to go really high. Since the taxes went high, the population numbers started to go down. The Sahara Desert started growing a lot more to the south. Since it was doing that, there was starting to be less food. The population started to also go down because trade was high, and the system then broke down. In 1062 Ghana and Almoravids had a war. The war was because they wanted more power over the Saharan trade routes. The war was justified as an act of conversion through military arms. They fought for five years straight until they ended up in the capital city in 1067. The empire resisted after ten more
The Early Islamic Empire was a place with Muslims, Muhammad, Abu Bakr, and other very significant phenomenonical things
In documents one and two they explain and evaluate the trading system and routes of the African empires, kingdoms, and cities. Document one shows the layout of the Aksum trade center and the routes which lead to and from it. Aksum is an empire located right by the Red Sea, its location made it an important international trading center. African trade centers mainly focused on the exchanges of salt and gold. Since the red sea ports are controlled by the rea sea and Aksum was located right by it, its locations made it the center of the trade center. However, in document two it describes the trans-Saharan gold and salt trade. The trans-Saharan gold and salt trade was controlled by the rich and powerful Ghana kingdom. The king had shields
There was also a Kingdom called Mali that broke off from the Ghana Empire. At this time they had embraced the religion of Islam and had been under the great rule of Mansa Musa. This empire had the job of protecting the caravans or shipments carrying the goods, so that they can trade. They helped towards the function of trade so that both the importer and exporter gained something. In document 3 it explains how their wealth was great because of their trade. The document also talks about the fact that they had exhibited the characteristics of an advanced divination like sufficient food to feed its people, a strong army equipped with advanced weapons and income derived from taxes. Even though the Mali Empire had wealth there was very little corruption if there was with the ruler. He did not go mad with power but he was generous. In document four it states they there was no person who did not receive a sum of gold from him.
The first empire that rose was the Akkadians. They were the first group of people who conquered Sumer and made it a great place. The Akkadians were controlled by King Sargon. Sargon created a formation called the tsudo. The tsudo was when there was men with shields and then behind them men held spears and then behind the spears men were archers with bows and arrows. Sargon also used many political strategies to help him rule the empire. Sargon ruled the empire for 56 years, during those years Sargon made a city called Agade and this city was located in northern Mesopotamia. This city had tributes from the people Sargon has conquered. Agade was one of the most richest and most powerful cities in the world. He had wished for his empire to last forever. But the soon kings had found out that it was hard to rule a large territory. Later the empire started to grow weak and lost many people. After 200 years the Akkadian empire fell to the new invaders from
When people found out how rich Mali was, that just made people want to conquer it so they had all the riches for themselves. In the end, Mali did fall, and this is an effect of being a famous site of cultural
Between the 9th and 11th centuries, the kingdom of Ghana, established by the Soninke people in the 4th century, prospered in Northwest Africa. The kingdom became very rich because its location was in the middle of the trading routes of northwest Africa and it had many resources. Ghana traded salt for gold with its Northern neighbor. Also Ghana taxed every trader who went through Ghana to fund their army. The kings of Ghana ruled from their capital of Kumbi Saleh. The country had a rich cultural tradition that was reflected in religion. The kingdom of Ghana fell because of droughts, attacks, and lack of gold.
In document 2 Ghana is described as, “[The empire that] controlled the land... It had the military forces...to maintain peace in the area, thereby assuring safe trade for the Arabs and the Wangara...[and] a strong army equipped with advanced weapons, and a foreign policy that led to peace and cooperation with other people”(Through African Eyes, ed. By Leon E. Clark, Praeger Press, Ny, 1970). The army in ghana was strong, but they still wanted peace. This shows how complex and advanced the civilization was. In document 3 it says, “Their sultan shows no mercy to anyone who is guilty of the least act of it. There is complete security in their country. Neither traveler nor inhabitant in it has anything to fear from robbers”(Ibn Battuta, Muslim traveler in his Travels to the kingdom of Mali, 1352). This shows once again how Mali had a strong military system. Even in well developed countries today travelers and inhabitants still have to fear robbers. Finally in document 4 it says, “...when he goes to war, and all his soldiers ride upon horses. The king has always 3000 horseman and a number of footmen that shoot poisoned arrows, attending upon him”(Leo Africanus, a Moroccan traveler, 1510). Because 3000 horsemen go with the king to war, and they have the technology to create poisoned arrows, the African people were thriving long before the Europeans came. All the evidence given proves that the civilizations of Africa were
