Dylan Klebold Research Paper

On April 20, 1999, two young men attacked Columbine High School using guns along with bombs. There were 20 people injured as well as 13 dead. There is limited evidence for the reasoning behind this act of terrorism. Many people believe that the boys did it due to lack of attention, while others are convinced that the boys did it because they played violent video games. These two boys are Dylan Klebold, and Eric Harris. Dylan Bennet Klebold was 17 years of age at the time of the shooting while Eric David Harris was 18 years of age. For one year, Klebold and Harris had been planning out their attack. They wanted this attack to kill the entire school. Both boys despised Columbine High School. They didn’t understand why the “jocks” received more attention than they did. The shooting was not about them seeking for revenge, but the boys were searching for fame and notoriety.

While he was in grade school, Dylan had mediocre grades and was considered gifted (Fillion 2016). Although Klebold was known for being shy, he had a bad reputation for cursing and being disrespectful to teachers. During the time he was employed at Blackjack Pizza, Klebold had been written up for bringing a pipe bomb to work after an employee had seen him detonating it in the back of the store. In addition, Harris and himself had been in trouble with the law in 1998 when they were charged with theft, criminal mischief, and criminal trespassing after breaking into a van and stealing multiple items from it (Shepard 1999).
