In the United States, several laws have been enforced in order to create an efficient community that won’t manifest trouble. Citizens have viewed a couple of these rules as “Dumb” or “Good” for multiple reasons. Anyhow, three of the most controversial bills have included some type of relation to plastic bags, dog ‘waste’, and the pursuit of bears.
To begin, plastic bags have become an exceptional necessity in the US, but , in some cities, like San Jose and Sunnyvale, have become limited. Even if plastic has obliterated itself from a consumer's view, something has not disappeared, yet. The text states, “Stores may still provide paper bags made of 40% post-consumer recycled material and charge a minimum of 10 cents for each bag.” This is beneficial

This statute has been enforced to everybody, including cattle ranches, which manufacture astronomical amounts of waste. The second paragraph of the third article illustrates, “...All animal or fowl manure, excrement, and all other fly breeding material, shall be removed...from all premises, including but not limited to, poultry yards, dairies, cattle yards, barns, sheds, feeding platforms, coops, and managers.” This is advantageous since people will not have as many flies on their yards, which can be irritable if not controlled. In the same fashion, flies are one of the major carriers of disease; when an owner picks up his or her animal’s feces, the area is obviously cleaner but is safer, too. Although the dictum may be credible, humans should become responsible and acknowledge what is their duty. Likewise, the article unveils, “Every person maintaining...a poultry ranch...shall file with the code enforcement officer officer a notice specifying the day of each...week...that he will remove...fro his premises all animal...manure…” Of course, the law is the law, but it is a person’s obligation to take action on something, based on logic. For instance, a person is hurt. Now, is having to attend one’s self mandatory? No-it is a person’s role to do what is correct since humans should not require another individual to undertake one’s life. Notably, animals should be viewed the
The article Plastic bags are Good for you, by Katherine Mangu-Ward was written to explore the pro’s and con’s of three different types of bags. Which is better between plastic, paper, or reusable bags has always been a debatable question with an opinionated answer. In the article Mangu-Ward characterizes the cause and effect relationships which have lead to the unpopularity of plastic bags in terms of guilt.
The large cattle ranches had started to implement many rules which restricted the freedom of the cowboys. Rules such as no drinking, no gambling, no abuse of horses were accepted with little argument. However, there were rules which many of the cowboys objected to. Rules that “forbade the use of a company horse on any private business”(p. 36), or “forbade the keeping of

He is amazed every time he sees urban people using gardens. This has to be the easiest way to obtain fresh produce. Another good idea is taking advantage of community gardens. This gives people the opportunity to get outside and work with others to feed their communities. The last thing that the author mentioned in his article really surprised me. He says, “For others, it may be three or four chickens laying eggs in an apartment (186).” This was something that I never imagined people doing. He starts talking about ordinances and how people should ignore them and defy. I would have to disagree with him on this particular point. Could you imagine having someone in Ames raising chickens in an apartment complex? Me either! There are certain points where some people go too far and this is a great example. Throughout this section of the article the author painted many pictures in the reader’s heads and this really helped me understand what he was trying to get across to his
Most of the necessities humans need are provided in supermarkets, in fact supermarkets have become a necessity for our everyday life. They are now the main source of water, food, clothes and everyday tools. Therefore, the plastic bags demanded and supplied in this industry increase every day. In the past decade, we produced as much plastic as we did in the whole twentieth century (Freinkel, 2011). This exponential increase of a non-biodegradable material has negatively impacted our environment immensely. Plastic production requires our dwindling fossil fuel resources, robs away animal lives, litters our beautiful landscapes and even affects our very own well-being. Hence, if plastic production doesn’t diminish immediately, we will suffer great
The growing issue of the welfare of wild animals has called for immense concerns for multiple reasons. Even so, more now today with the recent animal related incidents that have taken place and are publicized in social media and broadcasted on the local news. Zoo officials feel the best place for wild animals is zoos. However, animal rights activist strongly believe wild animals belong in their natural habitat where they can be free and live the life that they 're entitled to. An ideal habitat for wild animals varies from marine life having billions of cubic km of ocean water to land animals having forests, evergreens, dry desert land, marshes, caves, mountains and open fields to roam.
He believes the government should keep away from matters that associate with his business, as the epidemic moves towards the herd of cattle he is persistent in allowing officers access to the ranch. Hud reveals that he does follow as others do, ignoring laws and rules only obliging to
In 1999, Israel’s foie gras industry was the fourth largest in the world. Then, an animal protection organization known as “Noah” petitioned the Supreme Court of Israel to outlaw the force-feeding of geese for foie gras. During the case, Justice Asher Grunis argued that “animals should serve the needs of men” (Sullivan). Grunis explains that geese are not morally equal to humans. Israel should recognize that animals are property, and the owner’s rights to their property should not be limited.
One particularly warm evening last summer, I walked into my backyard to relax and enjoy some fresh air. Instead, I was greeted by the loud shriek of a chicken. We had an uninvited guest in our vegetable garden. Unfortunately, such chicken invasions are a common occurrence in many areas of Stockton, California. Throughout the United States, municipalities small and large are debating whether or not they should enact residential livestock ordinances, specifically in regards to poultry. Considering that they are often a public nuisance and pose a health risk, local officials should consider restricting the private ownership of chickens in heavily populated urban areas.
Plastic pollution negatively affects America’s future. The origin of this environmental pollution is caused by the excessive lack of ethics that human beings have. Many times, people throw garbage on the streets, seas, etc. Not knowing that this will be severely altered the environment, and planet earth conditions. Environmental pollution is found in many places such as plastic products, cleaning products, food, animals, personal care products, and the most dangerous in the environment where the oxygen we breathe and share with other living beings (Eriksen 2013).
Plastic or paper, is a choice that people face when going to the grocery stores. Plastic bags are often the choice that is made. A controversial issue in the world today is the use of plastic bags. Plastic bags are used because of the convenience they give, by being able to carry several items at once. However, in the article, “Banning Bans, Not Bags”, Jennifer Schultz claims, “Plastic bags clog up local waterways, litter roadways, and get swallowed up by unsuspecting fish” (6). Plastic bags are used once, then are discarded or, littered all over the place. When they are littered all over they become problems for more than just humans. These plastic bags pose a big hazard for animals on land and in especially the ocean. Humans eat land and
Leonard shows us how passionate she is about the topic and how she ventured across the world to see how consumerism is affecting not only us, but countries all over the world. She worked hard in her research to show us that the plastic bottle is a concept that can destroy our ecosystems and in return hurt us as individuals.
This essay will discuss the various harmful effects of plastic bags, and demonstrate the risks that these bags impose on humans, animals, and the environment. It will also discuss a series of suggested solutions that could help reduce plastic bag usage. Although plastic bags appear to be fragile and light, their negative environmental effect is devastating. Plastic bags may cause large amounts of pollution at every step of their limited life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials, production, transportation, and recycling or disposal. Plastic bags can be defined as the most damaging form of environmental pollution.
Everyone has heard a cashier one time or another mumble, “Paper or plastic?” as he put their groceries in a bag, but do shoppers know the effects of each vessel in which they carry their comestibles? There are many issues and benefits to both paper and plastic. The making and recycling of both paper and plastic bags can harm the environment. One must also look at the costs of making each bag. The convenience of each is also something to look at. Many people jump to conclusion that paper bags are better for the environment without knowing the facts. Since plastic bags are preferred by customers and plastic bags actually do not hurt the environment as much as paper ones do, consumers should feel at ease when choosing plastic.
While walking through the park last Sunday, I observed a shocking scene. There were two cans: one for recycling and one for trash. The recycling receptacle had only an empty Dr. Pepper can and a few used Ozarka water bottles. On the other hand, the trash can had a plethora of half eaten meals, wrappers, banana peels and disgustingly even bottles, cans, newspapers and plastics that could have been recycled. Because people do not understand or do not care to understand about conserving our resources, many reusable items are being put in landfills when recycling these items could help save the environment. People should know the negative impact of throwing away a water bottle or newspaper, purchasing meat from the grocery store or consuming gasoline has on the environment, and many do not. By informing society about how their decisions affect the environment, we can help save our planet and change our attitude toward the land we live on, the water we drink and the air we breathe” and truly show respect for the stuff that we depend on.
