Drunk Driving And Drinking And Driving

I find it utterly preposterous that in 2012 alone, there were over 10,000 drunk driving deaths in the United States. It is proven that one-hundred percent of deaths caused by drunk driving are preventable. Has the United States turned into such a corrupt nation that we can just stand by and watch innocent people get killed because of the carelessness of a person who has had too much to drink? You could be on your way to work, to watch your son play soccer, to get your hair done, or just taking an idle drive and then…..BOOM! Someone has hit your car and your life has ended in the blink of an eye. Driving under the influence affects YOU. It affects everyone in society whether it is directly or indirectly. After long periods of contemplation and deliberation, I believe I have managed to concoct a sturdy solution for this social ailment. I’m sure that most people will agree that my proposal will effectively eradicate the drunk driving problems in our country. With that being said, I humbly propose that we cut off the hands of all of those who are convicted of driving under the influence. Without their hands, how could they possibly manage to engage in such activities as drinking and driving? It would be completely unheard of. It was a typical, nonchalant morning for thirteen-year old Kaely Camacho. She was on the way to her mother’s house to get ready for school, riding with her father, and older sister. At this exact moment Sandor Guillen, a thirty-nine year old man, was speeding down the highway in his Range Rover, evasive and extremely intoxicated. In less than a millisecond, the two vehicles collided causing a fatal impact. Kaely’s father and sister were not seriously harmed but as they turned around to check on Kaely, their hear... ... middle of paper ... ...ntoxication because no one wants to go to jail for years over something that they probably can’t even remember. In summation, removal of the hands serves as an effective solution for the eradication of drunk driving. Kaely Camacho’s killer cannot be served justice by just being incarcerated. If he lacked the expenditure of his hands, then justice would certainly be served. The lives of four innocent pedestrians, and the livelihood of nine others should not be forgotten because of the meek assumption that Ethan Couch had “affluenza.” The dismissal of this crime with a feeble ten years of probation is no suitable punishment for the crime itself. Ethan Couch deserved his hands to be cut off to protect himself and every other person who has to use a car for any reason. And, bringing Hudud to America would benefit society as a whole. If Pakistan can do it, why can’t we?
