“Spare parts for humans are not as original as those for cars.” This is a fairly recent ad that was published by BMW in 2011 in order to promote awareness in regards to the dangers of drinking and driving. So many people go about their day to day life not stopping to think about the cause and effect of our decisions. One of the number one causes of death is actually from drinking and driving. Here is in this picture is a man who lost his leg to a drunk driving incident. He was a young adult who received a bionic leg in replace of his own. However, this bionic leg is not the same as having his real leg. As the slogan says, it is not easy to replace. He had to learn how to walk all over again and face many difficult hardships. To drunk drivers, this message is a plea for help. Help to stop drunk driving in its tracks. It’s not only a plea from the victims themselves, but also from the families or friends who have been impacted. One person may loose a limb, and receive a bionic leg such as the person depicted in the ad. However, there are others who may loose even more than that. According to MADD “almost one out of every three traffic deaths involve drunk driving”(MADD). When I was a sophomore in High School, there was a party held over the weekend. At this party, of course, somehow the teens managed to smuggle in alcohol. It’s not a secret that thousands of people all over the world associate alcohol with fun; however we also know that it generally results in a disaster. That night was no different. After attending the party for some time, three buddies decided to get into a car. All three of these guys were very well known throughout the township. They were great athletes on their way to pursue a successful career as hock... ... middle of paper ... ...to address the behaviors in our culture that put drunk drivers on the road. It is time to stand up and admit that as a culture, we drink together and let each other drive away (D&D.org). Drunk driving is a problem that is not only faced here in America but all around the world. Where one person looses a limb, another looses their life. Drunk driving impacts not only the victims but also the families and friends surrounding them. We shouldn’t wait until it’s too late to take a stand. Ads such as this one are great tools to show your story. Works Cited MADD. Retrieved from http://www.madd.org/drunk-driving/ Clive Martin. As a car drives by the window, the viewer sees the dog lift his head up and lay it down when he realizes it is not his owner. After this scene, the following words are shown on the commercial, “For some, the waiting never ended. But we can change that.” According to MADD, “In 2015, 10,265 people died in drunk driving crashes… 290,000 were injured in drunk driving crashes.” The next morning the owner walks in through the door and says, “I decided I shouldn’t drive home last night”, this shows how responsible the owner is because he does not want to hurt others if he had drove while drunk. In the background, the viewer hears the lyrics, “I’ll be waiting here for you, when you come home to me…” which supports the fact that the dog has been waiting all night for the owner to come back safe and sound. The next scene in the commercial says, “Make a plan to make it home. Your friends are counting on you.” By having the saying in third person, the commercial is trying to persuade the reader to drink responsibly because there is always someone waiting at home. In the end credits, the viewer sees the famous Budweiser logo with the hashtag friends are waiting. In the bottom of the ad, the Budweiser commercial had the words “Enjoy responsibly” on
In the video “Yes Mum”, Jonathan Burton shows a young college students death. The driver (Andrew) and four other friends are drowning. Andrew appeared to be the designated driver but was distracted by the partying and loud music blaring in the background. Him and his friends were taking pictures, eating, and drinking, Andrew got distracted and went off the road. Andrew knows that he is going to die and decides to call his mom for the last time. Andrew tells his mom that he loves her and it shows his process of saying goodbye. Finally, the film end with five of them drowning. This ad is effective because it demonstrates shortness of life and the consequences of drinking and driving.
I think that it is agreed by all parties that the prodigious number of sober drivers in our neighborhoods, city streets, and country roads is at present deplorable to the state of our great nation. Currently, a whopping ninety-eight percent of Americans of driving age feel threatened by those who drive under the influence of alcohol, which means that only two percent of Americans are able to fully relax and enjoy themselves while on the road, and with the growing awareness, this number could be on the rise (MADD Online: General Statistics 1). What a travesty! All drivers, and passengers alike, should be put at the same risk for danger, be it damage, injury, or death.
Losing a child or a family member to drunk driving is hard fact to come to grips with. Losing someone you love is hard to deal with, yet when it is due to drunk driving it is hard for different reasons. There are support groups throughout the country that were created to aid people in dealing with the loss of some one that they loved. People who have to face these hardships need to know that there are others out there who want to help. Those suffering need to know ways in which they can support others in their same situation and ways in which they can help defeat the crime of drinking and driving. Probably the most famous group that helps people cope wi...
In the year 2001 more then 800,000 injuries occurred in the United States from alcohol related accidents, while more than 40% of automobile crashes were due to the abuse of alcohol (MADD homepage). These overwhelming statistics are just a small piece of the very large puzzle that stuns the nation with deaths every year. For some people, these statistics are more than just phrases on paper they are words that are haunting reminders of the tragedies and losses they have experienced in their lifetime. One such mother was so distraught by the loss of her thirteen year old daughter Carrie Lightner, who was killed by a drunk driver, began the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). On the other side of the country another mother was feeling the same pain as her five and a half month old daughter, Laura Lamb, took her last breath after a drunk driver struck their car. Together these women joined forces to share their sufferings with others in the same situation, while striving to prevent future accidents and conditions such as the ones they had just experienced.
The facts are plain and simple, that alcohol and driving do not mix. About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash at some time in their lives. Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally preventable. To curb this national travesty, concerned Americans need to examine the problems, the effects, and the solutions to drunk driving. First of all, America has had a problem with drunk driving since Ford perfected the assembly line. Alcoholism is a problem in and of itself, but combined with driving can have a wide range of effects. The consequences of this reckless behavior can include a first time DUI or licenses suspension; a small fender bender, or worst of all a deadly crash. Most drivers that have only one or two drinks feel fine, and assume they are in control, which is irresponsible and dangerous. Alcohol is a depressant that slows down the body's ability to react and impairs judgment. To drive well, you need to be able to have a quick reaction time to avoid accidents. Unfortunately, people continue to drink and drive. However,...
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience NOT to drink and drive Every person is accountable for his or her own “right to drink”. Failure to treat this or any “right” responsibly has consequences. The person’s “right” can and should be taken away when the failure to act responsibly endangers others.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens, and about one-third of those are alcohol related. Don’t be that person that lets a drunken driver on the streets; be the difference.
No one can deny that driving drink has caused traffic deaths and injuries. Drunk driving is one of the most frequently committed crimes in the United States, killing someone approximately every 48 minutes. Drunk driving is “A time when humans willingly enter cages of glass and steel that move in such great numbers at such terrific speed, that subtle turn of the steering wheel can easily result in death” (Thomas). What possesses a person to get ...
There is knocking at a door late at night, and there a policeman standing at the door with information that a family member was in an accident that involved a drunk driver. This is one of those things people hear and believe that it will not happen, but it happens every day. Every 40 minutes, someone in the U.S. is killed by a drunk driver and in 2008, in Montana, 40 percent of all traffic fatalities involved DUIs (“Drunk Driving” 1). Drunk Driving affects everyone and people in Montana should look at what other states do to find ways to make the laws tougher and more enforced.
Drunk driving is a problem that we hear about every day and it is something that effects everyone, but it only becomes real when it affects us directly. What we don’t know is when a problem like drunk driving will become “real” for us. Drunk driving is an issue that has taken a toll on our country and should be stopped. Drunk driving has been an increasing problem for many years. It effects not only the driver but all of society. The good thing is there are many ways the percentage of drunk drivers can be reduced. Although many people believe drunk driving doesn't affect them because they don't drink and drive, it is something that affects the whole community.
Driving under the influence of alcohol affects reaction time and is very dangerous not only for the driver and passengers in the car but for pedestrians and other drivers on the road. Each drunken driving ad targets different audiences; some may target different age
Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations in which anyone can be or be placed. Drinking and driving is a serious offence that can cause someone to be physically harm or even killed. Not only are you putting yourself at risk but you are also risking the lives of passengers in the car as well as any other car and occupants sharing the road with you. Many people believe that increasing fines for drunk driving offenders will play a compelling role in cutting down the occurrences of driving under the influence. However, while harsher DUI laws will look effective on paper, they will not make a significant step in the fight against drunk driving. Although there is a law enforced for drinking and driving in the
What is the number one cause of teenage deaths in the United States? In this country a teenager dies due to alcohol related car accidents every twenty-two seconds.
The growing awareness of alcohol hazards has made people more cautious of their drinking habits, particularly young adults. At present young adults have the highest prevalence of alcohol consumption than any other age group. They also drink more heavily, experience more negative consequences, and engage in more harmful activities, specifically drunk driving. Although surveys have documented a decline in recent years, consumption rates remain highest from late teen years to the late twenties (Johnston1-3). Despite the long-term decline since 1982 in alcohol related traffic deaths, a 4 percent increase occurred between 1994 and 1995 among young adults age 21 and over (Hingson 4). As alcohol-impaired driving persists, legal and community initiatives intervene to help reduce the problem, as well as, continuing research on possible solutions.
