Basically his drums are the war. If he beats good and doesn’t mess up then the soldiers won’t mess up!How you ever read the book Drummer Boy Of Shiloh? This is a short story written by Ray Bradbury and he uses symbols throughout the story to emphasis different meanings. The main character is Joby, he is a little drummer boy around the age 14 years old and he is camping with the rest of the soldiers in peach field. He is afraid of marching into the battle with no weapons only his drum and his sticks. Joby’s and the other soldiers general thought they were too young to fight in a battle. Joby’s job was to lead the soldiers into the battle by the beating of his drums.
In the story, the general says ‘’There’s your cheek, fell off the tree overhead.’’ What he meant by that was Joby was to young. He was to young, and soft to even shave so how would he be ready to fight in a battle? The peach that fell off the tree symbolized Joby’s cheek. The General didn’t think that him or the rest of the soldiers had enough experience to fight he the battle. He thought that they should train for four more months .

Joby’s job in the end was to play his drums so the soldiers could march to the beat.
The drums symbolized Joby’s fear of the war. Throughout the story he was saying how he was afraid to fight and the war because all he had was a drum. The general suggests that Joby beats his drums instead of fighting in the war. Joby takes on that offer, even though he is scared, he does it. The general called Joby the heart of the
army. The general called the soldiers ‘’a bunch of wild horses on a loose rein’’.By saying this he was saying the boys were untrained and didn’t know what they were doing. So as for there, the general thought that they shouldn’t be fighting in the battle. Maybe they would have a victory, and maybe they wouldn’t. The general didn’t know what was going to happen he just felt like the boys should train some more. Finally, it was all over. As i read the story i connected with Joby because i know how it feels to not believe that you can do something. Everyone needs to connect with someone and have somebody to have pride in them and that’s what the general had for Joby.

In Sonny’s Blues, James Baldwin makes biblical themes a crucial part in this short story by comparing biblical themes to scenes from the story. There were many ways that biblical themes were present in Sonny’s Blues as James Baldwin made references from the bible such as the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, the story of “The Probable Son” and the book of Isaiah, which talks about the Cup of Trembling. His comparisons are supported by James Tackach’s The Biblical Foundation of James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues”. Baldwin’s message about redemption is that anyone who has sinned or hasn’t lived up to their promises can still be redeemed. All of the references mentioned to support the biblical themes all tie up to redemption.

In the book “The Things They Carried”, O’Brien uses imagery, figurative language and repetition to convey his message. O’Brien’s purpose for story telling, is to clear his conscience of war and to tell the stories of soldiers who were forgotten by society. Many young men were sent to war, despite opposing it. They believed it was “wrong” to be sent to their deaths. Sadly, no one realizes a person’s significance until they die. Only remembering how they lived rather than acknowledging their existence when they were alive.
Steven Galloway’s The Cellist of Sarajevo is an incredible story about strength, hope and how war changes people. The story follows three different characters and the difficult situations they are put in. It shows Dragan’s path to get bread from his bakery, the journey Kenan takes to get water for him, his family and a neighbour and Arrow, who kills enemies to save thousands of innocent citizens. Despite challenging and difficult circumstances when people maintain their morals it leads to a happier and more fulfilling life.
Leroy and Norma Jean in the short story, “Shiloh” by Bobbie Ann Mason, are a married couple, and they experience a series of events, which shapes them and determines there future. The final setting, Shiloh, works well to highlight the battles of war to the battles between Norma Jean and Leroy. Throughout the story Mason is focused on the persistency of grief, the instability of gender roles, along with the distance and lack of communication separating Leroy and Norma Jean from each other. Mason illustrates how marriage can be a struggle striving to work out to the very end.
In the beginning of the short story, the young boy is already imprinted with the ideas of war from his father. His father was a former soldier who “had fought against naked savages and followed the flag of his country..” (Bierce 41). The image of war that is imprinted on the young boy from his father is that of nobility and righteous that comes from war.
...a life lesson. The military style of drum line is what has helped me improve in my schoolwork, my family life, and my friendships; I was trained to never give up even if success seems impossible.
In his book, My Fellow Soldiers, Andrew Carroll tells the story of World War I through the eyes of the American participants. He uses quotes, personal letters and diaries, from an array of characters, to depict a day in the life of a WWI warrior. Though, he narrows his focus on the untold story of General John J. Pershing, a US army leader. He uniquely talks about the General's vulnerable and emotional side. "Pershing was notoriously strong-willed, to the point of seeming cold, rigid, and humorless, almost more machine than man" (p.XVIII). Pershing is commonly recognized for his accomplishments during the war and remembered for his sternness. He was "…especially unforgiving when it came to matters of discipline" (p. XVIII). Nicknamed "Black Jack" due to his mercilessness towards his soldiers, in this book, Pershing is portrayed as a General with much determination and devotion to his troops, family, and close friends.
“This boy ought to do something useful, I’ll teach him some music.” (10) John Esputa suggested to Antonio Sousa as his young son, John Philip Sousa, yearned for the opportunity to learn the ways of a musician. From a stubborn boy attempting to play the violin and trombone to the old man conducting his own talented band, deciding to learn music made John Philip Sousa the man who earned the grand title of The March King. The songs he wrote traveled word-wide, many pieces spreading across continents during the late 1800s till present day. He inspired thousands with his pieces and endless determination. The March King’s life consisted of bombastic marches and endless symphonies till his final breath.
A narrative is specified to amuse, to attract, and grasp a reader’s attention. The types of narratives are fictitious, real or unification or both. However, they may consist of folk tale stories, mysteries, science fiction; romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fables, myths and legends, historical narratives, ballads, slice of life, and personal experience (“Narrative,” 2008). Therefore, narrative text has five shared elements. These are setting, characters, plot, theme, and vocabulary (“Narrative and Informational Text,” 2008). Narrative literature is originally written to communicate a story. Therefore, narrative literature that is written in an excellent way will have conflicts and can discuss shared aspects of human occurrence.
And why did Dr. King referred to himself as a drum major for different causes. A drum major is the leader of the marching band during rehearsals and in performance. His/her job is to carry-out the instructions of the band director and other instructional staff regarding what needs to be done with the band. Rick Wilson (2008) Dr. King wanted to be remembered as a Drum Major for Justice. He implored his congregation to remember his attempts to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort prisoners. ‘‘Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,’’ King intoned. ‘‘Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter’’ (King, ‘‘The Drum Major,’’ 185–186). The death threats that he received daily did not stop Dr. King from preaching his message of service to others and
In the poem of Beat! Beat! Drums! Whitman is talking about how people react to war when they hear the drums and the bugles sound. Not all the people were happy to hear them because they knew that they were being called to go to war and they had to be ready to give up their lives and they had to commit themselves 100 percent to the war. As he mentioned “Leave not the bridegroom quiet-no happiness must he have now with his bride, Nor the peaceful farmer and peace, ploughing his field or gathering his grain, So fierce you whirr and pound you drums-so shrill you bugles blow”. (5-7) In other words everything needed to stop once they heard those drums beat and those bugles blow so hard that you couldn’t even hear a father’s beg to his son not

As you live your life, and time passes. As society changes, and opportunities come and go. One thing never changes… A drummer’s passion for music. Coming from a musically gifted family obviously fueled my passion for drumming. The first step was to join the band, and being in band was what gave me a true appreciation for music. The passion for drums came first and then an appreciation for all the hard work musicians do. Unfortunately the marching band, in high school, was not affordable for me. So I wondered how i could continue my drumming career, and eventually came to a decision. I decided to take up playing a full drum-set, and it was the best choice of my life. Playing the full set, has given so many more opportunities than the band ever
