Youth are considered as a country’s foundation that need to be protected from preventing it from crumbling and devastating the nation. Drugs are one of the termites that eat up the foundation of a nation. It is a very common and proven fact that how drugs have gripped youth across the world and made them enter the ‘doors of hell.’ Comparing the two cities of Canada, Toronto and Montréal, have unpleasant stories to reveal when it comes to measuring the effects of drug smuggling on the residence. Drugs have made the people, especially youth incapable and powerless with regards to the development of their personality. Not only the youth themselves but also their families are affected by the monstrous attack of drugs on their daily life. Drug …show more content…
There have been many incidents where youth have been targeted by drug abuse once it is easily smuggled and then the drug dealers are given the charge to manage its distribution. Montréal faces the same problem where the residents are suffering from the monster of dreadful drugs. The major victims of drugs are youth who have also been the major clients of the drug smugglers. They get into the habit of taking drugs because of many factors like stress, family issues, or pre-pressure. The scope of drugs in the city is also diverse as it could be seen that the Montréal police is always on an alert to control the drug trafficking. There are strict rules and regulations at …show more content…
Montréal police has been keeping strict checks on the drug smugglers and giving the harsh punishments which shows that there is a lot of demand of drugs that makes these smugglers supply drugs in the city. The city residents of both cities are impacted due to drugs where, the youth have been the major targets and suffered due to the effects of drugs. The youth have been taking drugs due to many factors where peer pressure has been the paramount reason. The youth are easy targets for the drug smugglers as they do not know about good or bad. They are young so are more prone to any kind of pressure and belief in everybody. These young people do not have foresightedness and do not see their future being ruined by the drugs. They are not able to judge the future consequences that these drugs would bring with them. A research study has proved that the city of Toronto has more cases of drug abuse in the adolescents as compared to Montréal where the youth between the age group of 14-17 have been taking drugs like cannabis more frequently. (Research on Drug Abuse, 2012, para 2). These youths are

Law enforcement must turn their attention to the people buying the drugs. To stop drug users from using drugs is for them to seek help through rehab or other social agencies. Most drug users turn to drugs due to personal problems they are afraid to face which has negatively affected their financial means and relationship. Therefore, by sending drug users to rehab centers and not jail would encourage them deal with their underlying problems, get clean and be productive in life to overall improve their well-being. The fourth goal is to restore the quality of life in urban communities by ending street level drug dealing. To disrupt the sale of drugs being pumped into the community, law enforcement must patrol the streets of high drug-dealings to discourage the sale of drugs and target dealers in those areas. This would deter the selling of drugs in these areas, decrease drug consumption and reduce drug-related crimes. The fifth goal is to help prevent children from experimenting with drugs. Most adult drug users started exterminating with drugs in their preteen or teenager years. Teens are more prone to using drugs because they are impressionable. They want to fit into a popular group or to deal with problems at home. Children must be taught the dangers of drug use and its consequences as preventing early use of drugs may go a long way in reducing the potential of drug use and can
CTV News shared breaking news on October, 23, 2013 that four Romanian women were found being victimized to human trafficking in Montreal. These women were lured to Canada hoping that they would find a better future but instead were forced into prostitution (2013). Human trafficking is an issue that is rarely acknowledged by Canadians. Most people are either unaware of the problem or do not recognize it as something that is happening in their own backyard. Although Canadians are exposed to the severity of human trafficking in other countries, Canadian citizens are unaware of the fact that Canada is not only a transit point for the United States but also a destination country. Information from the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre states “The RCMP estimates that 600-800 persons are trafficked into Canada annually, predominantly for sexual purposes, also additional 1,500-2,200 people are trafficked through Canada and into the United states” (2010). Canada is a source of transit and destination for human trafficking, some of the victims being as young as twelve years old (Human trafficking, 2010). The definition of what human trafficking is focusing on who the victims are and who the traffickers, the increase in trafficking due to globalization, and the role Canada plays in preventing it will all be explained further.
Bruce K. Alexander’s essay “reframing Canada’s drug problem is about how the focus needs to be shifting from intervention to prevention
In my paper I will mainly focus on the drug industry in Canada and mainly how the illegal drug industry has created an impact on our society and how our government has bought in some rules and regulations to control them.
.... Weak economies and high poverty rates haven’t been much assistance in preventing drug trafficking either. People have become more susceptible to making risks in order to find ways to support their families and drug networks are always looking for more people to distribute their drugs around the world. Because of drug trafficking, there are constant civil wars going on between the drug corporations, law enforcement, and citizens. This has become a common theme all throughout the world. Drug trafficking has only became worse and worse each and every day, and it is going to continue to be a problem for quite some time.
It is not their drug- problem that causes the dislocation, but the dislocation that causes the drug problem. He uses the term dislocation to describe the lack of integration with “family, community, society and spiritual values” (226). Alexander goes on to explain that history proves that inability to achieve healthy opportunities can take on the form of violence and damaging drug use. The problem is more the “pattern of response to prolonged dislocation” (226). Therefore, the “drug problem” (226) is not the problem. Alexander supports this by explaining that the reason for the dislocation is driven by globalize society, which can only be established by the displacement of tradition, economy, and relationships. This has been seen in historically in England during the 19TH century, when “a brutal, export-oriented manufacturing system” was accompanied by workhouses and shanty
Inner city youth are usually very impressionable due to less than ideal living conditions in their communities. As a result, it is easy to see why so many African American youth think that selling drug is a way out of poverty. Unfortunately, because of their surroundings, the only people they know with substantial amounts of money are the drug dealers they see in their community. Whether it is a friend of a friend or a close relative, these young people have become accustomed to this way of life. With dreams of one day making enough money to have just the bare necessities or the respect of their peers, these are some of the reasons why drug trafficking is so prevalent in urban areas. In the story The Coldest Winter Ever, by Sister Souljah, she describes how this, the sensationalism and fast money associated with drug trafficking within urban communities, effects a young girl who wants to emulate and hold on to this lifestyle.
It is a common belief among today’s youth that marijuana is a low risk drug and that using it is harmless to their health (4). This widespread misconception is a large factor in why marijuana use is so regularly accepted by today’s youth. The percentage of young people using marijuana in Canada is one of the highest in the world, with Ontario sitting among the leaders in that percentage (CAMH). According to a survey done by the Canadian Public Health Association, “Marijuana use represents 90% of the illegal drug use among students” (CPHA), 2012 CP). With so many Canadian youth blindly abusing a substance with no real understan...
Drug traffickers often use violence as a means to scare, intimidate, or prove a point. In a community that involves drug use and drug trafficking, residents no longer feel safe in the community. Drugs are related to crimes in many ways. It is a crime to use, make, possess, and distribute drugs; but drugs are also related to crime because of the effects they can have on the user’s behavior. Drug users under the influence of an illegal drug are not always conscious of the effects their behavior can ...
After interviewing my teenage cousin whom has been in several altercations at home and school, enlightened me on the ways that teenagers in her age group gets involved in drug use. Kids start as young as ten years of age using, selling, and experimenting with drugs. My teenage cousin was expelled from public schools when she started experimenting with drugs. She was surrounded by many challenges when she enrolled in the alternative behavioral school. Many students, whom attend the alternative behavioral school use drugs, sell drugs, are on probation, have been arrested, engage in sexual activity and drink alcohol.
Reckless living occurs to many teens because their brains aren't fully developed, this affects the decisions they make. A long term analysis of about 20,000 teens all around America grades 9 through 12 were interviewed three different times. First was in 1995, again in 1996, then the last one was in 2000 and 2001, the first interview, 1.4% of participants thought there was no chance that they would reach their mid-30’s; 2.4% thought it was possible, but very unlikely; and 10.9% believed they had only 50-50 shot of making it to their 35th birthday. The results of the other two interviews were much more larger than the first one. (Sharples) drugs take a big affect on not just the country, but the whole world, drug abuse has been a major issue in
Drug and alcohol abuse is a significant problem that is affecting the youth of Australian society. It’s evident that the students in which attend school this problem is considering alarming compared to previous generations. Adolescence are frequently beginning to experiment with commonly known drugs such as; alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and forms of illicit drugs such as pills (which are commonly identified as MDMA and ecstasy) (Botvin, 2015). By the time students are in high school, rates of substance use are remarkably high and they are found to be increasing, which in turn is affecting academic achievement (Econ Educ Rev. , 2011). This essay will investigate the way in which alcohol and drug use impact senior schooling.
Certain drugs can be injected via a syringe or needle, smoked, ingested through the nasal cavity, and even laced into certain foods and eaten. Unfortunately, in certain areas, drugs can be very easily obtained in an unsafe environment. Usually, drugs affect teenagers the most who are in their high school and college years. It is reported that teenagers can get their hands on narcotics at a myriad of places in their daily lives. They can be found: In the medicine cabinet, at home, at a neighbor’s house, online, a friend, at schools, and at parties. Nowadays, with rapid advancement in drug development, kids as young as 16 can cook and grow their own drugs in their homes. Neglect of strict attention or drug awareness among parents can result in teenagers buying or selling drugs routinely in their
Few people deny the dangers of drug use, while many teens are curious about drugs. They should stay away from drugs because drugs affect our health, lead to academic failure, and jeopardizes safety. Drugs are used from a long period of time in many countries. The concentration of drugs has increased from late 1960’s and 1970’s. Drugs can quickly takeover our lives.
