Drones in the Air

Should countries be allowed to use drones in modern countries? Since the installment of drones in warfare, the unmanned aerial combat vehicle has proven to be quite an effective tool. Nowadays, the efficiency of drones has overpowered the opposing arguments since it has more pros than cons. By defining the importance to keep military personnel safe, by providing coherent data on civilian lives, and by refuting the significance of drones to keep terrorism at bay, one will be enlightened to see that drones are the way of the future.

Life could be argued to be one of the most precious things on Earth. For this very reason, why should the men and women who protect their country take unnecessary risks? As stated in Source J, " Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and their affiliates often operate in distant and environmentally unforgiving locations where it would be extremely dangerous for the United States to deploy teams of special forces to track and

capture terrorists. Such pursuits may pose serious risks to US troops including firefights with surrounding tribal communities, anti-aircraft shelling, land mines, improvised explosive devices, suicide bombers, snipers, dangerous weather conditions, harsh environments, etc." Look at all the threats that may pose a problem to their lives. With the integration of drones, military personnel can now protect their country from a secure area and return safely to their family. There would no longer be the need to walk up to the home of loved one, and tell that person the devastating news that their loved one had just perished? Is this not something the U.S. should try to achieve?
In war, there will always be casualties, and may sometimes include innocent lives.

However, with drones, civilian fatalities are considerably less if they are compared with other forms of warfare. According to Source J, drones create less unintended damage to people and property than traditional weapons, such as war bombs, shells, mines, mortars, because drones have technical precision to limit casualties to combatants and intended targets. With such accuracy, drones can kill one person in a room of a house and spare the lives of those who are in the other rooms. While it may be argued that drones are dangerous because they have killed an estimated 1,047 civilians, this amount is miniscule compared to WWII stats. As stated in Source J, "... roughly 8-17% of all deaths from US drones. In comparison, in World War II, civilian deaths, as a percentage of total war fatalities, are estimated at 40 to 67%. In the Korean, Vietnam, and Balkan Wars, the percentages are approximately 70%, 31%, and 45%

respectively."
With the use of drones, terrorists are now the ones cowering in terror when they hear unmanned aerial combat vehicles fly over head. They know there is imminent death if they pop their head up from the ground. So far, drones have killed 3,500 militants and dozens of high-level commanders stretched across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia. Drones have squandered plots before they even had a chance to develop into something horrendous. However, since drones can stay in the air for days at a time, civilians live in constant fear of drones and become tempted to join extremist parties to put an end to the trepidation. This is the cost the United States has to pay to prevent another catastrophic event similar to 9/11 from ever happening again.
The terrorist groups began a fight they could not win and must now live in constant fear. The United States discovered a way to keep their warriors safe but still find a way to kick some terrorist butt. The only downside to all this power is that sometimes innocent people get hurt. However, as the old saying goes, all's fair in love and war.
