The Natural Human Learning Process is a process that helps you understand the way that we Learn. Dr. Smilkstein made it clear that it takes six key steps that help the brain learn in a better process. The more knowledge the brain receives the more dendrites grows inside to keep the information. I’ve realize everything I do in life trying to get better at something the NHLP stages always come in handy. Motivation, practice, advanced practicing; more skills, refinement, and mastery are the steps to accomplish anything you put your mind to. The brain works in patterns because this is how the brain learns by constructing knowledge through sequential stages. Inside the brain is kind of looks like tree roots growing from the ground up. Just imagine the basics of a tree growing from the ground up to the roots and that’s what we have. There are the axon terminal blubs which are like description of the stump of the tree. Axon and myelin sheath is the base and the cell body and dendrites neutron are the roots that make up trillion of brain cells floating along. I accomplished my driving skills by allowing my brain to gain confidence to drive. I was coming of age to get my learners permit so I had to learn one day because driving is something I always wanted to do. I once was afraid to get behind a wheel of a car until one day I motivated myself by thinking about how cool it would be to drive my junior year of high school before most students did, which is the first step of the NHLP process. Next, practicing came along. My brother taught me the basics about driving one night training on a long,dark, narrow country road in Prospect, Virginia for a week straight until I got used to the feel of driving. By the end of the week my driving skills were better than before. My practicing went from back roads to main highways by the weekend to advance my skills. After I mastered my driving experience my confidence shot sky high and I felt motivated to drive anywhere. I was ready to take on any driving challenge. Another thing I learned from Dr. Smilkstein’s research is emotions can affect ability to learn. When people feel unconfident or anxious certain chemicals flow into the synapse to shut them down. During that process the synapse don’t give the brain time to think; The brain just shuts down and lets the emotions take control.
The learning process in human beings is very natural, and we all want to learn from a very young age. Doctor Rita Smilkstein studied learning in humans for many years and has found this to be true. After reading this paper and learning about how the brain works during the learning process, you may be able to find a time in your life where you utilized the learning process, just as I began to think about how I have learned something using techniques similar to the NHLP. Dr. Smilkstein’s learning process is brilliant. The Natural Human Learning Process describes the six steps that the human brain goes through when learning something new. The process describes the way we learn different skills and the way our emotions can determine the way we learn. This process has helped me and other humans to understand the way the human brain works along with the way we learn.
It’s normal that as we age, our driving abilities tend to change. Adjusting to life changes such as retirement, different schedules, and new activities also affect where and when they drive. Most older adults drive safely because they have a lot of experience behind the wheel. They are often hurt more seriously than younger drivers when they are involved in crashes (Older Drivers , 2012). There are many factors that affect older adults when driving such as arthritis, memory loss, and spine problems, which make drivers lose height and become shorter behind the wheel, diminishing visual range (Older Drivers , 2012). Driving skills can be affected by age-related declines in vision, hearing, cognitive functioning, ability to reason and remember, and other abilities, as well as certain health conditions and medications. It’s important to note , adults tend to take more medications as they age, and even if they’re not developing dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, the medications can cause cognitive changes and confusion, which in turn can affect they’re driving abilities (Older Drivers , 2012).
Defensive driving can save lives. It can turn a nonchalant call home into a terrifying call home. It is making the choice between stopping at a stop sign or stopping someone’s life. Defensive driving should be a part of everyone’s daily driving routine. If you practice defensive driving you can save yourself time, money, and a lot of headaches. I wasn?t nervous to drive because my dad let me drive sometimes to my grandpa?s house If I took the back roads, so I had a little experience. When I took behind the wheel it was a little different than driving on the back roads, but I did ok. When I finished behind the wheel I signed up for a driving test. This was the part I had been waiting for, I wanted to pass so I could drive alone. The day of the test was very stressful, I had to use my grandma?s car because mine had tinted windows. I had never driven my grandma?s car, and I could not do corner backing with it.

The course included turning both left and right,parking into a space, reversing, and many more things. My dad would always say the same things to me: “Turn the wheel, Coast, Brake Earlier.” These are just some of things he stressed to me. Turning the wheel was a problem I had early on because I would always do the wrong technique. I would always turn for part of the way but not all the way. The next thing he would say to me would be is just coast. To be honest, I did not know that a car could do such a thing. Coasting to me seems like taking a little break from driving.
