If you had a chance to change the dress code policies, would you do it? Many students have seen dress codes as a problem that is unfair. Although, some students do not have an opinion on the dress codes. Except, some people do not understand why schools decide to have the policies. It is important to know why schools have dress codes, the benefits of them, and the thoughts and opinions from the community because they are used daily for children. Schools have used dress codes for many years because they have an important purpose for the students. The purpose for most dress codes is to focus on academic achievements and discipline they need to be taught (Daniels). Many schools have seen an increase in good behavior when they enforce the dress codes. According to studies, sixty-seven percent saw an improvement in the students concentration on their school work, and seventy-two percent saw an increase in the students school spirit(Daniels). In the Shelby County Code of Conduct, it says that the way you dress expresses the way you think, so the school wants to allow students to become prepared for the working world(Shelby 15). According to Daniels, schools saw a boost of self-esteem in students when uniforms were involved because they did not have to worry about the brand of clothes they are wearing and getting made fun of because of it(Daniels). Daniels also mentions that students are more well behaved because they know they are dressed appropriately for learning(Daniels).
