In the short story ¨Raymond‘s Run¨ by Toni Cad Baramba, the protagonist squeaky is a young girl who is taking care of her handicapped brother. They live in the big city of New York. Squeaky real name is Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker, she got her nickname because of her squeaky voice. Squeaky proves to be an extremely memorable character because she is a dedicated athlete, protective. And most of all, because she is a nonconformist.
The first reason why squeaky is a memorable character is because she is a very dedicated athlete. For instance In the beginning she says ¨There isn't a track meet I don't win the first place medal.” This shows she must be a fast runner. This makes her memorable because she is a confident athlete. In addition she

comes out and says she needs to practice and get stronger unlike other kids this shows she is a dedicated athlete. Also to prove my point in the middle she claims “Now some people like to act like things come easy to them, won’t let on that they practice. Not me. I’ll high-prance down 34th street like a rodeo pony to keep my knees strong even if it does get my mother uptight…” This evidence suggests that she doesn’t not care who knows she is working hard no matter what she will try her best to get better. Another example that illustrates that squeaky is a dedicated athlete is moments before the fifty yard dash she is saying she has this dream she is as light as a feather and then she starts sikeing herself up the gain confidence which is something great athletes may do. Thus we can say that squeaky’s confidence athletic abilities make her a memorable character. Another reason why Squeaky is a memorable character is that she is protective of her big and handicapped brother Raymond.
She claims in the beginning “ And a lot of smart mouths got lots to say too, especially when George was minding him. But now , if anyone has anything to say to Raymond about his big head, they have to come to me.” thus we can say that squeaky is protective of her brother. Before the big race Squeaky stuck Raymond in the kiddie swings because she could not watch him. So it will be safer if he stayed there because he is not normal he is handicapped. This shows that Squeaky is very protective of him. Furthermore towards the beginning Squeaky states “,and i’ve got Raymond on the inside walking on the inside close to the buildings, cause he’s subject to fits of fantasy and starts thinking he is a circus performer and that curb is a tightrope strung high in the air. This evidence suggests that squeaky is afraid if he walks on the curb he may fall then get hit by a car which very well may happen. In addition in the middle of the story Squeaky and Raymond bump into on the street one of Squeaky’s old friends who is now sometimes mean to her, there is also one of her friends with her. When they start to talk to Raymond Squeaky states if you got anything to say to him you can say it to me. This shows that no matter who there is bullying Raymond she will always stand up for …show more content…
him. The most important reason why Squeaky is a memorable character that she is a nonconformist. She is a nonconformist because in the beginning she states “And I don’t play the dozens or believe standing around with somebody in my face doing a lot of talking. I much rather knock you down and take my chances even if I am a little girl with skinny arms and a squeaky voice…” This suggests she is a nonconformist because if you are a small girl with skinny arms you usually don’t want to get in a lot of fights. In addition when she bumps into to some girls that are sometimes mean she states “I’m ready to fight, cause like I said I don’t feature a whole lot of chit-chat, I mush prefer to just knock you down right from the jump and save everybody a whole lot of precious time.” this shows that like I said before she rather fight then talk even though she is just a small little girl. One reason I think she is a nonconformist is a few hours before the race at the end Squeaky states “The biggest thing on the program is the maypole dancing, which I can do without, thank you, even if my mother thinks it is a shame I don’t take part and act like a girl for a change.
You’d think my mother ‘d be grateful not to make me a white organdy dress with a big satin sash and buy me new white baby doll shoes that can’t be taken out of the box till the big day” This evidence suggests that unlike the other girls she would rather run than dress up like the other girls. Later in the paragraph she states that you will think her mother will be glad that Squeaky is not prancing around acting like a fairy or flower than just being herself, this shows even more she is not like the others. In addition later on she claims“I was once a strawberry in a hansel and gretel pageant when I was in nursery school and didn’t have no better sense than to dance on tiptoe with my arms in a circle over my head... and being perfect fool just so my mother and father could come dressed up and clap. You’d think they know better than encourage that type of nonsense. I am not a strawberry. I do not dance on my toes. I run.” Thus we can say that Squeaky is a nonconformist she doesn’t like to act like other girls acting like fairies or dressing up for pageants she likes to run and train for track meets. And she will rather fight you even doe she is a small little
girl. Thus we can say that Squeaky is a memorable character. She is a great athlete, Very protective of her brother and most importantly she is a nonconformist. I think we can all agree on that. I think she is a very memorable character, I hope you do too.
Now that we all have this knowledge and have a language to deal with it visually, it’s the time to start dealing with some of the more playful things. We’ve accepted privilege, we’re conscious of all these major issues that the generation before us laid down. — Rashid Johnson

Kerbouchard finds Suzanne the Hansgraf who leads him on his journey around Europe. Suzanne departs at Constantinople when Kerbouchard has to go to Alamut. He finds his dad there and they stay together until he leaves to find his lover. Some of the most important characters in the book are Safia, Suzanne, and Jean Kerbouchard. The most important one of all is his dad, Jean, because they make enemies along the way and always keep going, Mathurin is searching for his father his whole journey, and his dad is his educator.
Scout, the protagonist, is a young girl coming of age in a society trying to shove her into a dress and the role of a gilded daughter. For example, when Scout recalls a conversation with her Aunt Alexandra, a figurehead for society and one of the major female figures in her life, she begins to shine her own light on how to brighten her father’s life in a way that is true to herself. On page 108, Scout comes to terms with the fact that she is defying stereotypes, “I could not possibly be a lady if I wore breeches; when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn’t supposed to be doing things that required pants. Aunt Alexandra’s vision of my deportment involved playing with small stoves, tea sets, and wearing the Add-A-Pearl necklace she gave me when I was born; furthermore, I should be a ray of sunshine in my father’s lonely life. I suggested that one could be a ray of sunshine in pants just as well, but Aunty said that one had to behave like a sunbeam, that I was born good but had grown progressively worse every year. She hurt my feelings and set my teeth permanently on edge,
All towns, cities, and areas have their own specific traits. Small towns tend to be more like a family, while big cities tend to be more passive. Then there are the small areas where people do not make much money and struggle to get by. These areas tend to be more violent and more influenced by drugs and alcohol. This is the area that Andre Dubus III grew up in, in his memoir Townie. His parents were divorced and neither of them made much money so he and his two sisters and brother ended up moving from one small crummy neighborhood to another. In these neighborhoods he would get involved in the wrong crowds and end up doing drugs, drinking, and fighting. This became a way to show power. The most powerful people were strong and always came out on top in fights, had all the drugs and alcohol, and therefore all the power. This drove many people to fight so that they could move up this chain of command. No one wanted to be the bottom because that was the position of the most abused people of the neighborhood. This need and fear is what drove Andre to fight and the understanding of this fear is what drove him away from fighting.
Sam Woods is a very important character in the novel In the Heat of the Night. He is a racist, and throughout the novel you will notice many changes in his attitude towards Negros.
Martin Luther King once said, "we must live together as brothers or perish as fools." This statement illuminates the importance of the features of concern, compassion, and knowledge. The color of a person’s skin tone would result in harsh and unfair treatment. Even though they would be alienated by their peers and others, many African Americans chose to stand up for their rights. These truths were revealed when the famous little rock nine took their courageous stand regardless of their odds. In the novel, Warriors don't Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals and a Roundtable discussion facilitated by NBC news, the disturbing truths behind the struggles of integration are brought to life.
Robert Laurence Moore has written a delightful, enlightening, and provocative survey of American church history centered around the theme of "mixing" the "sacred" with the "secular" and vice versa. The major points of conversation covered include the polarization caused by the public display of religious symbols, the important contribution that women and Africans have made to the American religious mosaic, the harmony and friction that has existed between science and religion, the impact of immigration on religious pluralism, and the twin push toward the union and separation of religion and politics.

'The Curse'; by Andre Dubus is about Mitchell Hayes, a forty-nine year old bartender who is witness to a rape. After the rape, Mitchell is distraught over his decision of not making a stronger attempt to help the girl. Police, family and friends try to comfort Mitchell by telling him he made the right decision. However, he continues to feel guilt and self-doubt over whether or not he could have done more in order to prevent the rape from occurring.
“Blood Brothers” by Willy Russell Blood Brothers seems to have been set in the 1970s/80s around Liverpool. There is a lot about striking and major redundancies in it. Also about people moving "out of Liverpool" into the "country" ( Skelmersdale ), in order to provide better housing and better prospects for everyone. The social climate of the working class appears to highlight the differences between working and middle classes.
In the short story “Being There”, by Jerzy Kosinski, there are multiple examples of satire that are displayed throughout both the book and the movie. A few of them are: media, death, politics, and racism. The satire of the media was very similar in the book and the movie. Media played a big role in society and still does to this day.
Suga Boom Boom (Chasing Dragons) was written and sung by D. L. Downer a.k.a. James Williams and his 16-year-old niece Laleazy. It is a rap and hip-hop song that was released on October 26, 2014. It was produced as a single by MajorEpic music label and is two minutes and fifty-five seconds long. This song is a metaphor for James Williams’ life and it is about a man who was working and living his life like everyone else when he was led to try heroin for the first time. This caused him to lose his job because he was not going to work. One day when he was going through severe withdrawals, he decided to attack and rob a man, even though he was in clear view of the cops because he wanted more heroin. Suga Boom Boom is like a metaphor for James Williams’
Scout's narration and the character's dialog prove that Alexandra is characterized by her traditional values while Miss Maudie is characterized as a modern woman. The issues of gender roles are still a large part of society today and it affects a majority of adolescents because they feel the need to conform and ignore their individualism and that is why this novel is still relevant to society today.. The lessoned to be learned here is to be comfortable in one's own skin and don't listen to negative feedback if it is not constructive.
When reading the book The Goal written by Eliyahu Goldratt, there were many lessons that I learned in order to have a clear and concise understanding of a positive level of productivity in a company. To have a positive level of productivity there are may components that are taken into consideration. Understanding what it actually means to be productive and how to increase the level of productivity by knowing the actual goal of the company that is trying to be reached and the components that go into the process of being productive. There are many factors that contribute to the level of productivity and being able to identify these factors is the key ingredient to having a successful level of productivity.
A person's ability to develop is due to two factors, maturation and learning. Although maturation, or the biological development of genes, is important, it is the learning - the process through which we develop through our experiences, which make us who we are (Shaffer, 8). In pre-modern times, a child was not treated like they are today. The child was dressed like and worked along side adults, in hope that they would become them, yet more modern times the child's need to play and be treated differently than adults has become recognized. Along with these notions of pre-modern children and their developmental skills came the ideas of original sin and innate purity. These philosophical ideas about children were the views that children were either born "good" or "bad" and that these were the basis for what would come of their life.
