As a fan of cinema, I was excited to do this project on what I had remembered as a touching portrait on racism in our modern society. Writer/Director Paul Haggis deliberately depicts his characters in Crash within the context of many typical ethnic stereotypes that exist in our world today -- a "gangbanger" Latino with a shaved head and tattoos, an upper-class white woman who is discomforted by the sight of two young Black kids, and so on -- and causes them to rethink their own prejudices during their "crash moment" when they realize the racism that exists within themselves.
Though movie has censored many of the main themes which were depicted in William’s original play. But the internal turmoil, struggle and chaos of emotions which is portrayed by the characters in the movie, makes for this deviation and enables the viewer to feel the gravity and magnitude of entire situation vividly.
One motif which reappears in the film is the power of nature, especially in relation to the individual. In fact, the film begins with a majestic shot of the Rocky Mountains showing its beauty and height. The beauty of nature and even friendliness of nature changes as the film develops. As the movie progresses the snow still seems white and pure, almost virgin like, but nature becomes an isolating force, not providing the family with a retreat from the pressures of modern life, but forcing the family to turn in on its dysfunctional and psychopathic self. Imprisoned by the snow and the tall mountains , the family seems weak and vulnerable.

Watching a movie can be entertainment and informative. Some movies are major blockbusters and then there are movies that are written purely on giving the audience an in depth look at critical issues. When depicting a disability as a subject matter it can be a tough subject to conquer however there are movies that can depict it very well. One movie that has depreciated the subject matter of disability in a very accurate way is that of the movie The Station Agent. The movie not only takes its viewers on a very accurate depiction of what it is like having dwarfism it also provides us with numerous profound psychosocial issues.
Tension is built within the Liquidation of the Ghetto by Amon Goeth’s “inspirational” speech which is used to motivate the German soldiers. The speech foreshadows that history is about to be made and something bad is going to happen to the Jewish people. Once the ‘Final Solution’ begins Jewish people are being filed into the streets and their belongings are taken from them. People are being shot for no reason and in spite of what is going on; doctors and nurses are giving poison to the terminally ill patients so they do not suffer. The people who were hiding are found and were shot. Spielberg uses diegetic sound throughout this scene to create emotion within the audience. Gun shots and a sense of mourning can be heard which creates tension by having an unknown fate for the surviving people. The audience begins to wonder if they are going to the labour camp or a concentration camp. Panning is used to show each aspect that is happening throughout the liquidation. It shows the audience the impact that is had on the Jewish people. Amon Goeth’s speech foreshadows tha...
