What is an empire? To most, an empire may sound remind others of a powerful and unstoppable piece of land that has been conquered by a kind of almighty force. But this isn’t necessarily true. Empires are not unstoppable; in fact, all empires, at least so far and to our knowledge, have had a rise, a golden age, and finally: a downfall. In order for this downfall not to happen so quickly, the empire’s power needs to be sustained. Ways that an empire sustains itself is through effective leadership within a non-corrupt government, that is tolerant of others religious beliefs or belief systems. An empire should also have the need to uphold communication and trading between foreign countries. This can help with multiple aspects as well as the open-mindedness of the people, which is entirely important for the sustainability of an empire.

Being tolerant of other people’s beliefs or belief systems is a necessary when sustaining an empire’s power. The persecution against Christians within the Roman Empire had in a way, led to the downfall of Rome through separation of its people and lack of trust with the government. Without an emperor or leader it’s not really an empire. And although sometimes it can be dangerous if the leader isn’t necessarily a good one, it’s necessary in order to keep the power. An example could be Cyrus the great or the Persian Empire, as mentioned before, had helped to sustain the empire in many ways. Created canals and other infrastructure whilst also helping to expand the empire by a tremendous amount.
