Edward Abbey’s essay Down the River explains his deep feelings towards nature. By giving vivid examples of the of the things to comprehend in nature we see how these feelings start to shape the way people view nature. The encounters that Abbey tells about show the intensity of nature itself. We first see the “mountain lion following [him] threw the twilight”, in that very moment the emotion wasn't fear it was “wonder”. The lion did not scare him it amazed him.
