In this situation, Doris Drugdealer should be arrested for two reasons. Firstly, She used to sell heroin. Secondly, she escaped from the prison. But on the moral side, Doris Drugdealer had done a lot of things to compensate, and she had changed to become a person of the highest integrity and compassion, so she need to be forgiven. In my opinion, the governor should grant her clemency, since she has done a lot to show that she has been changed. First of all, the change of her means that the goal of the Criminal Justice System has been achieved. The purpose of Criminal Justice System is making the criminals change themselves and become a normal people, and Drugdealer is absolutely a successful example to change its ways. Also, if the governor
All of these dealers claimed they were innocent, but one particular defense attorney, Cynthia Barbare, took her client, Jose Luis Vega, at his word. He claimed to be an honest auto mechanic and the dirt under his fingernails led her to believe him. Plus, she found it odd that a reportedly wealthy drug trafficker lived in such a meager home. Her first line of defense was simply requesting that the drug lab test the veracity of the drugs. None of the prior dealers from Alonso’s cases had done so because the Dallas county court system unofficially penalized anyone who requested verification from the drug lab with a much lengthier sentence. The courts had simply relied upon the officers’ field tests. Ultimately, Barbare’s gutsy choice paid off
She explained how she relapsed after being 3 months clean. Since the relapse in 2015 to 2016 she became clean again in August of 2016 with the help of her fiancé and her family. Since she took responsibility for her actions and explained that she does have a problem. I believe that is the first step to recovery. She was very adamant about how she does do wrong and then she had a plan to do what was right in her life for herself and not for anyone else. It may seem selfish, but that is the only way to control an addiction within one’s self, in my opinion. Accepting what is wrong and willing to deal with it is a start and having a great support system will help tremendously. The State Board of Nursing should allow her a second chance to prove that she can overcome and control her addiction while preforming the career she worked hard to achieve. The board should place a strict probation, and tasks that she can perform should be evaluated periodically. In the Nurse Practice Act it states, “Use or unlawful possession of any controlled substance, as defined in chapter 195, or alcoholic beverage to an extent that such use impairs a person 's ability to perform the work of any profession licensed or regulated by sections 335.011 to 335.096 (pg.
The answer is simple, she may not had to buy the drugs she be repaying a debt to someone or could be transporting the drugs from one place to another, a middle man.”
Once these individuals in rehab serve there sentence the majority of them, won’t look straight to the next opportunity to get high, but the next opportunity for a better future after being encouraged in rehab to accomplish something in life, compared to someone’s attitude coming out of prison. One story involved a man named Richard with his wife Marcia. She was an addict who was often jailed for it, but Anthony believed like many others that “addiction can be overcome with proper help. He believed that the solution was to get her into a mental hospital [and] get her whatever she needs – Xanax, morphine, to get her chemical imbalance right. Show her some respect. (114)” Give her some working skills, so once she gets out she is capable of being successful but instead she kept getting “kicked down the steps” by the criminal justice system. The jailing and torture of addicts is routine to people serving cases for drug related offenses, who are often not built to endure prison, let alone jail. “The Justice Department estimates that 216,000 people are raped in these prisons every year. (This is the number of rapes, not the number of rapes – that is much higher.) (109)” This is ultimately shows the simple fact that many people are not built to endure
It is becoming a problem for prisons to receive more of the dangerous inmates because there is already a limited amount of food, they are having some overcrowding issues, and the cells in the prisons are smaller than the average bedroom. “There are about 2.3 million people incarcerated and about half of them for nonviolent crimes” (Taylor 1). There are over a million inmates in a prison, and these inmates have to stay in a very small cell and sometimes have to share with one or two more of the other inmates. Drugs are illegal and by selling or using them is breaking the law, but
Ultimately the question that we should ask, have we as a nation approach the war on drugs fairly ? Is the war on drugs about the drug or is it about our people? I can honestly say with my head held high its not about the drug but about the people. .We as a nation don't gain anything if we strip our people from their rights and abandoned them. As Lisa D. Moore, DrPH and Amy Elkavich, BA noted, “Everyone should be able to access quality health care and education inside and out of prison. We should support ex-felons after their prison terms in their attempts to find meaningful employment, housing, and education.” We all live under one nation and should strive to be the best nations and allowing people to seize our rights as citizen is irrational. We need to step up and ask for change!
Although it may be true that Judge John Wood despised drug use, the main influence on the judge giving drug dealers long prison sentences was because traffickers play an important role in the deterioration of neighborhoods and the crimes that some people have to endure due to drug rivalry. The drug use is only a portion of the problem. If the drugs were not illegally distributed in the first place, then the problem could not originate. Judge John Wood would not have given Jimmy Chagra a prison sentence for drug use; he was on trial for drug trafficking.

Currently there are 14 states that allow the governor sole authority to grant clemency (Alabama California, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming). Arguments opposed to the power of clemency from the Governor want to make the decision left to three-person panel of judges to decide who get clemency and who does not, this would depoliticize the clemency process. With governors having to be re elected, governors will not want to make a clemency decision that will make them look bad in the public eye, even if it is the right
The war on drugs and the violence that comes with it has always brought around a hot debate about drug legalization. The amount of violence that is associated with drugs is a result from harsher drug laws and prohibition.
The problem is whether Doris deserves to be in jail and if she is a threat to society. Also, if she is still associated or in time will associate with the drug dealers. Doris was really naive when she did her crime and was in need of money. She had no idea how bad the things she was doing could affect her life in such a horrible way. She was a teenager trying to make it on her own and had had no experience of real life. She didn’t at the time believe that it was bad or dangerous but just that she needed the money. Prison was very hard on her because she was so young so she left and lived a life in fear but with the knowledge of someone more experienced. She was a good citizen and even volunteered for an organization. She also had kids and taught them to stay away from drugs. This shows that she learned from her mistakes. That’s his
All she did was not tell the cops anything, her boyfriend was the one that stole the drugs. I believe they should revaluate her case and change the amount of time she has to be in prison.
Suffering from an addiction is punishment enough, sending drug addicts to jail is not the solution. Addicts are suffering already by not having a place to stay. Most of the time addicts do not remember where their family is located at and they need help to get better. That is why I am saying that addicts should go to rehab instead of prison.
It should be noted that due to the unknown consumption of medications or possible usage of narcotics, she would have caused harm to herself and to others. I believed that dale was in need of substance abuse services. At the time, dale was incapable of accepting the need for such services and of making a rational decision in regard to receiving services. As evidenced by her recent behavior, there was a substantial likelihood that without care or treatment dale would have caused serious bodily harm to herself in the near
The initial reaction to this situation is shock and anger at the mother for selling her medication in order to buy food for her and her three children. However, I also feel saddened that she is in such a poor economic state that she would have to sell
