WooJin Suina Professor Sharifian Government 2305 6 November 2017 Social Media and the USA Presidency Ever since the first launch of Six Degrees (the first social media site) in 1997, social media has become an important factor in a person’s life. Currently, there are millions of people all around the world logging into social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to communicate with one another. This has become huge because it has the ability to transfer information all across the globe in a matter of seconds. Yes, social media is a revolutionary idea and has impacted humanity in a positive way, but with every great idea there are flaws. There are many elected officials who has gotten into serious trouble because of the things they

Trumps most favorite social media website is Twitter in which he post on a daily basis. For the two weeks of observation, Donald J. Trump mostly talks about tax cuts, fake news, and his rivalry with other parties. For tax cuts he explains that he is trying his very best to reduce tax for all Americans. In his twitter account he posted “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to offer historic tax relief to the American people!” with these continuous posts we can tell that he is serious about this. The “Fake news” that Donald Trump is constantly talking about is mainly his negative reputation that he has. Many television channels say negative things about Trump, so he tries to defend himself through Twitter. And lastly, he talks a lot about his rivalries. He tries to convey to his followers of the mistakes that his rivals are doing. 1 Mike Pence also uses twitter, but not as often as Donald Trump. Following Mike Pence, he’s only posted 7 times in the two-week span of observation. Majority of his tweets were also based on Tax cuts and his pride towards the Republican party.
Further examining each elected official and knowing the social responsibility that these leaders uphold, I would suggest that they don’t post the comments immediately, but wait a few hours or so and recheck if the comment is still necessary to post. These few hours can give time for these elected officials to calm themselves of their personal emotions so that they don’t regret their posts in the future. I don’t believe that Donald J, Trump is doing this practice because several of his comments are very unnecessary and is bringing a lot of anger to American
In, “The Lie Factory” by Jill Lepore, she examines what attracts a voter to a candidate. “You can put on a fight (‘he likes a good hot battle, with no punches pulled’), or you can put on a show (‘he likes the movies; he likes mysteries; he likes fireworks and parades’): ‘So if you can’t fight, PUT ON A SHOW! And if you put on a good show, Mr. and Mrs. America will turn out to see it.” (Whitaker qtd. in Lepore) In the case of Trump, he combines both fighting and showmanship to create a dangerously alluring combination. The more ostentatious he can be, the more support he earns. Every hateful remark, every verbal jab is given media coverage, until Trump is spoken and known by everyone, becoming an almost mythical figure. He repeats the same mantra, everyone is bad, and I am the victim. I am rich so I will make you rich. I will make America great again. Every day, there is a new more vicious and personal attack, yet he has desensitized us to the point in which we no longer abhor such comments, but instead laugh, and find comedy and entertainment. To some, even acceptance and
Throughout America’s history there have been countless influential leaders that have proudly been American. Those have held positions of politicians, soldiers, and . Kanye Omari West has opened the eyes of today's generation and still continues to shape American history. His musical influence has transformed the lives of countless people. Inspiring many to stand up and fight for what they believe in is something Kanye West continues to do even today.. Also, opening the eyes of many to racial injustice towards African American citizens. I’ll further elaborate my claim in the following paragraphs using historical evidence.
My favorite musician is Donald Glover because he is a very good artist and is very influential when he sings/raps. We will go through his background before he became a widely known artist, his influences on the world through his music, how he perceived in the public today and interesting facts about him and his career.
First of all, Donald Trump is a businessman-not a politician. He received his degree in Economics/Real Estate from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. In 2007, Forbes Magazine reported his annual earnings in entertainment alone to be $32 million. This would have meant a significant pay cut, had he become United States President. Currently, he is the producer and star of “The Apprentice,” which has been on air since 2004 (“The Apprentice”). He holds multiple offices at the Trump Organization, and is also a chairman of Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, Incorporated (Project Vote Smart). Donald Trump has put his name on products and companies both successful and unsuccessful, including food products, corporations, and a clothing line. Trump once stated that “The stuff that’s been sent over from China falls apart after a year and a half. It’s crap.” Ironically, the majority of his products are manufactured in China (Webley, 8). How can we expect a man to keep in touch with an entire country when he can hardly keep in touch with his own business? Donald Trump has had some other losses in business as well, including a failed airline business and multiple bankruptcies in his casinos, among other lost investments. (Webley, 3).
Main points: Donald Trump would make a very good president. Opponents of this view point of mine would have things to say like “Trump is a power hungry business mogul with a happy trigger finger” or that he is too forward and has no censorship of the things that he says to the public and press. They would also say somethings such as he would buy out who ever does not agree with him or will not let him do what he wants and that he could not run a full blown country with all the facets that comes with it.
In the current time, it seems like one cannot go a day without using at least one social media website. This might be especially true among groups of teenagers and young adults. Social media became a vital part of daily life that feeds people with several types of information constantly. Political news is a type of information that can reach the people through the means of social media. Since presidents are constantly seeking new strategies to increase their communication with the public in order to spread their political message, they utilize the different social media websites. Hence, social media became a platform to spread political message. It is not surprising that now the majority of political officials and candidates have social media accounts more than ever before, such as a Twitter account.
Bernie Sanders is the former senator of the state of Vermont and is currently running to be the democratic representative in the 2016 Presidential Election. Bernie Sanders has stated that he is a socialist democrat but it is unclear whether he is either a socialist or a liberal. His statement is unclear because on some topics he takes on more liberal view than a socialist view. Bernie Sanders is known for being a strong believer of the government helping out the economy more and having the wealthy pay more taxes. He wants less poverty in society and help it have a consistent middle class. Two issues that I agree with Bernie on is his views on helping the economy and his views on the war on terror. Bernie Sanders is a strong supporter
“David Robinson, who performed a statistical analysis of the President-elect's Twitter account in August, said Mr. Trump's tendency to tweet like an "entertainer" meant he was able to garner the “interest" of the American people, which in turn boosted his chances of election success”(Independent.co.uk 1). His appeal to emotion has personally benefited himself to the point where he remained a key subject of interest throughout the entire election. Whether or not he was favored, he was the most focused on topic for the widespread media.
Donald Trump is a successful businessman who has accomplished more than most people could ever dream of. He started in the real estate business and has his own university, appeared on a T.V. show, is a billionaire, has many golf resorts, and is the president of the United States. He is criticized for many of his comments and political views. Some of these views are him wanting to build a wall to protect the United States from illegal immigrants and drugs, wanting to replace The Affordable Care Act, and banning people from Muslim countries to keep out terrorists. Although Donald Trump is often viewed as a controversial figure, he benefitted the United States of America by improving and creating jobs, proving that non-establishment politicians can still win the presidency, and by making America safer.

Donald Trump’s announcement that he was running for the presidency shocked many people. When he released his announcement speech I knew I would not be voting for him because I do not agree with any of his ideas or beliefs. His speech in general is flawed and all over the place and he doesn’t seem to know what his point is or how to get to it. I believe that he uses his fame and wealth to try to win the people over and claims that he is the best there is for this position therefore earning their trust.
That is a well- known fact. His tenacity and impeccable negotiating skills are by far what has propelled him through various business ventures thus far. Some see this as a plus dealing with foreign leaders, being a general who will stick to his guns, never wavering on his beliefs. A Pitbull in a suit so to speak, who is not going to back down. That whole “You aren’t going to run over US, our president won’t let you” type of mentality provides many of his supporter’s security. Trump holds nothing back. His filter is nonexistent. Spewing venom that most people wouldn’t dare to approach. He is relentless and cunning. Though he has no ideology whatsoever, his fearless doggedness has appealed to many with pent up frustration and anger with no particular place to put it. Except in that little voting booth. Power was finally
The changes in social media implied that many people got in touch with the political candidates either directly or indirectly. The people watched their potential leaders of the nation and were able to question them (Mutz 2001).

The future of the United States government, policy structure, and elections will evolve around the emerging social media. How well politicians and government officials use the technology could shape the policies of our country.
