Recommended: Similarity between monarchy and republic

President Donald Trump and President James Monroe are well known in American society whether today or 300 years ago. Both presidents are similar but are very different in many ways. Though these men are centuries apart, there are some aspects that ring a bell to the two.
James Monroe, born April 28th, 1758, into wealthy English family in Virginia. Monroe’s father was prosperous planter, Spence Monroe. Donald Trump, born June 14th, 1946 was born with a silver spoon in his mouth in Queens, New York. His father, Fred Trump being a successful real estate agent. Another similarity would be that Trump and Monroe come from immigrant backgrounds. Monroe’s family came to Virginia after being exiled from England for fighting alongside King Charles I in 1649. Trump's mother, Mary Anne Macleod, is a Scottish immigrant who arrived to the U.S. in 1929. …show more content…

In James case it does. Being a national hero fighting alongside George Washington and in the most influential battles in the civil wars. James Monroe had the virtue of being well known throughout the nation. Donald Trump although never being in the military other than going to military school as a child, was known for other things. Such as being a big businessman in real estate, just like his father, and through his success made a ‘reality’ TV show ‘The Apprentice’ which boosted his popularity sevenfold.
Family matters are also different. James Monroe at age 26 met a local merchant’s daughter, Lawrence Kortright who was 16 at the time, and married her on February 16th, 1786. As well as having 2 daughters and 1 son, while he practiced law in Virginia. Donald Trump’s marital background is more extensive, having married 3 times once to Ivana Zelnickova which he has three children with, one girl, two boys.
