Why do serial killers kill? Most serial killers kill because they were abandoned in their young life either by their mother or father. Some think that serial killers kill due to a chemical imbalance or because their genetic makeup is slightly altered. There are a lot of serial killers in this world, but Donald Neilson is one of the most famous. Personal Life Donald Neilson is a very known serial killer. Donald Neilson was born Donald Nappey. Donald Neilson was born on 1 August 1936 and died on 18 December 2011. Donald Marr Nelson was born in Hannibal, Missouri, United States. He studied at the University of Missouri with a degree in chemical engineering, and was hired by Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1912 as a chemist. Neilson was age ten in …show more content…
January 1947 when his 33-year-old mother died from breast cancer. Donald Neilson was an unhappy child , when he didn’t get his way he shoplifted. At the age of 18 he married a 20 year old woman named Irene Tate.
They had a daughter named Kathryn Neilson in 1960. He became a buyer for Sears, Roebuck and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming an executive vice president and vice chairman of the executive committee by 1939. He became a buyer for Sears, Roebuck and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming an executive vice president and vice chairman of the executive committee by 1939. Murders After a while, he started practicing wearing dark-colored balaclava for his robberies that earned him the sobriquet "The Black Panther" from the media. He started off with the three postoffice murders according to Mars Jones, “ In the three postoffice murders Donald Neilson seemed to be suffering from a severe psycho-pathological condition” (Mars Jones 3).When Donald got released from prison. He was told by the trial judge, Mr Justice Mars-Jones, that the enormity of his crimes put him in a class apart from almost all convicted murderers in recent years and that in his case life imprisonment should mean life, and No minimum period was set for his release. At 39 Donald showed no emotions about the murders toward judge Mars Jones. He told him: "You were never without a loaded shotgun or other loaded weapons when you
went on your criminal expeditions and never hesitated to shoot to kill when you were in danger of arrest or detection. You showed no mercy whatsoever." (Mars Jones 2). The judge referred to the kidnapping of Lesley Whittle as the ultimate in villainy: another "enterprise that ended in murder." Mr Neilson raised his head to look directly at the judge as he said that in his judgement such was the gravity and enormity of offences committed by him that life in his case would mean life. "Put him down," said the judge and Mr Neilson turned and was led away.”( Mars Jones 1). “Mr Barrington Black, Mr Neilson's solicitor, said that an appeal had been lodged against the verdict in the Lesley Whittle case and that a second appeal involving the post office murders was being considered“ (Mars Jones 2). Mr Neilson would probably still be at large but for two policemen who were commended by the judge. On December 12 last year PCs Tony White, aged 26, and Stuart MacKenzie, aged 29, both probationary officers, were on traffic patrol in Mansfield. They parked their car in a side street to watch passers-by and 15 minutes later they had their first glimpse of the man soon to be identified as the Black Panther. There was nothing particularly alarming about the figure scurrying past them but they had their suspicions. They stopped Mr Neilson and questioned him. After giving them a false name and saying that he was a lorry driver on his way home from work Mr Neilson pulled out a sawn-off shotgun and made the policemen drive at gunpoint towards the village of Blidworth. PC White, sitting in the back of the car, grabbed the gun, which exploded in his colleague's face. There was a violent struggle and two members of the public, one a karate expert and the other a miner, rushed to the car to help the policemen. Prison Life Soon Mr Neilson was overpowered and chained to some railings. A youth, thinking the police had captured an IRA gunman, punched Mr Neilson in the face. Mr Neilson's days as one of Britain's worst criminals had ended. Neilson was given four life sentences in 1975 and was one of a small group of notorious prisoners who were told they would spend the rest of their lives behind bars. HMP Norwich prisoner Donald Neilson was taken to outside hospital in the early hours of Saturday December 17 with breathing difficulties. That was the day Donald Neilson life ended in prison on Dec. 18, 2011. edited by: Javaris Hankins edited by: Yanya Savage edited by: Arnada Thomson
2. Biographical Information: The name of the serial killer that I researched is Donald Harvey. Biographical Information Donald Harvey was born on April 15, 1952. He is still alive and serving life in prison.
What are the root causes of a person becoming a serial killer? There have been many different serial killers over the past years, but only one is the infamous “Green River Killer.” Gary Ridgway was dubbed the “Green River Killer” because many of his first victims were found near the Green River in Washington. There are many factors which contribute as to why a person turns and takes their anger out on other people. Some people have a normal childhood with a loving family, while some are not so lucky. A loving family is built around the parents, but if the parents choose violence over love, then that is what the child will grow up only knowing. Gary Ridgway is an American serial killer who killed over sixty women within a twenty year period.
Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Mark Allen Smith, Richard Chase, Ted Bundy-the list goes on and on. These five men alone have been responsible for at least ninety deaths, and many suspect that their victims may total twice that number. They are serial killers, the most feared and hated of criminals. What deep, hidden secret makes them lust for blood? What can possibly motivate a person to kill over and over again with no guilt, no remorse, no hint of human compassion? What makes a serial killer?
In order to identify serial killers before they kill repeatedly, a person needs to study the characteristics that make up this type of criminal. Most serial killers have been abandoned, by one or both parents, they are emotionally, physically, and even sexually abused by a family member, or relatives from unstable families who have criminal, psychiatric and alcoholic histories, or tend to have hate for their parents and people in general which makes them have antisocial personality disorder. They have conflicted, pained, or tortured animals at a young age and most are highly interested in gaining control over things. Even though not every serial killer posses these characteristics, most share these characteristics the same way they share the psychological need to have complete control and power over people. Dennis Rader was one normal average citizen until he shocked the public when he was caught as a serial killer who caused tragedy in their town.
A serial killer is traditionally defined as the separate killings of three or more people by an individual over a certain period of time, usually with breaks between the murders. (Angela Pilson, p. 2, 2011) This definition has been accepted by both the police and academics and therefore provides a useful frame of reference (Kevin Haggerty, p.1, 2009). The paper will seek to provide the readers with an explanation of how serial killers came to be and how they are portrayed in the media. Several serial killers have a definitive and common personality profile.
The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer from the late 60’s and early 70’s. The zodiac killer identification was never known. The Zodiac Killer was most famous for killing couples in their car at night. He started his killing spree on October 30, 1966 in San Francisco with his first victim, eighteen-year-old Cheri Jo Bates. Cheri’s throat was cut so deep it almost decapitated her. On November 29, 1966, the Riverside police received a copy of an anonymous letter in the mail. This letter taunted the police about the murder of Cheri Jo Bates and how she will not be the last. (Wilbur R. Miller, 2012) This was his way of being in control and getting his voice heard. Just a few months later he kept to his promise that there will be more death. The Zodiac killer murdered a young couple, David Faraday and Betty Jensen, in Vallejo, California. David was killed by one shot to the head and Betty was shot five times ten feet away from the car. The police suspected Arthur Leigh Allen, a child molester, who fit the description of the Zodiac Killer almost to a T, but there was no incriminating evidence, so he was never charged. The Zodiac Killer was suspected of killing 2,500 people throughout his killing spree, and was never caught. The Zodiac Killer’s reason for killing was that once he killed his victims they would be his slaves in the afterlife. He thought of himself as a “God”, all powerful and all knowing. (Wilbur R.
Even though through research we have found the traits, and reasons why serial killers like to kill there is still much to be learned about them. As years go on so will the research on serial killers and hopefully we as a society will fully understand them and one day be able cure whatever inside that makes them have the urge to kill.
We can all agree that serial killers are unpredictable scary people but when it comes to why they kill, everyone has a different view. In my research paper I will get into the mind of a serial killer and try to figure out what exactly sets them into uncontrollable rage.
Serial killers have many frightening facets. The most frightening thing about them is that experts still do not know what makes a human become a serial killer. Many experts believe serial killers become what they are because they have a genetic disposition or brain abnormality while other experts believe that a serial killer is created by childhood abuse; and some other experts believe that it is a combination of both brain abnormalities and abusive childhood experiences that creates a serial killer. A murderer is considered a serial killer when they “murder three or more persons in at least three separate events with a “cooling off period” between kills” (Mitchell and Aamodt 40). When defining a serial killer, their background, genes, and brain are not mentioned; perhaps one day those aspects of the serial killer can be included.
Calin and hobbies, which debuted in 1980s, is sometimes described as one of the best comic strips ever created. One noted comics scholar has described it as “hands-down the most innovative comic strip of the last several decades.” As he went on to say, “The influence of the strip has been remarkable, is it’s affected the work of dozens of young talented artists.” Without quite knowing exactly why, thousands of people were drawn to this strip on a daily basis. The artist who created Calvin and Hobb, Bill Waterson, shunned publicity, retired early, and today lives a very private life far from pressures of drawing a daily comic
There have been many serial killer cases that have attracted the attention of not only the media but of mental health experts as well. Many experts from a variety of different fields have come together to answer one question: Why did they do it? It is believed that most, if not all, serial killers have a mental illness, motives, and/or trauma during their lives that made them start killing. Serial killers are not only the effect of nurture but also nature. The environment of their country, the United States is our focus, can cause the number of serial killers to increase especially if the country itself is unstable.
The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. Since the beginning of time, scientists and neuropsychologists alike have studies its composition and how it influences human behavior. However, no human behavior has baffled researchers more than serial murder. Serial killers are dangerous animals that act upon bizarre influences that have fascinated the human race for thousands of years. Many wonder what could cause a person to take the life of another innocent soul. Do internal factors cause them to do it? Is it their environment? What causes a serial killer to kill?
...who most likely have had some kind of childhood problem such as divorce or lack of a parent. They might be thinking that they are doing the world a favor, or in search of power of people, or just simply just find pleasure in killing. As to why serial killers have been increasing over the past thirty years, there is no certain answer to it, but hopefully it stops increasing soon and decreases instead.
Even though Henry spent his life without his father, he ends up working for Alfie Gandon becoming a pawn in Gandon's game, just like Henry Sr. Henry Jr. slowly became a hitman for Gandon, all the while he believed he was helping to free Ireland. The rich Irish used Henry to their advantage without giving him recognition: “Griffith became Minister for Home Affairs and Count Plunkett got Foreign Affairs. Brugha got Defence, the Countess got Labour and Mister Gandon got Commercial Affairs and the Sea. Henry Smart got wet.” Henry uses water to describe his part in the new Ireland. One of his jobs was to go to the countryside to recruit and train soldiers. He rode his bike through Ireland in the rain and wind. He explains how many figures
So what makes a serial killer? Levin points out that contrary to popular belief, serial killers don't just 'snap'; or 'go crazy'; (Douglas, p. 137). Many of the serial killers have been the victims of childhood abuse. Jack Levin stated 'Research shows many serial killers suffered abuse, incest or neglect as children and develop poor self images'; (Douglas, p. 137). Serial killers often have a childhood marked by the absence of any nurturing relationship. 'They often come from families where the parents were absent or ineffective, where authority was not defined, and where they could engage in destructive behavior undeterred-violent play, cruelty to animals, and incidents of arson being some of the childhood behavior patterns noted among many serial killers'; (Clark, p. 206).
