Special Occasion Speech
For today's special occasion, I will give a speech of acceptance which honors Donald Driver during his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Donald Driver is a former wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers who grew up in the Houston area. In my scenario Donald Driver will be giving the speech of acceptance. This speech takes place right after Ron Wolf, Packers former GM, presents his speech of presentation. Please Enjoy.
Adversity can wreck your life. Adversity can lay you so low that you never recover. But if you stand up to adversity, it can also make you stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. No matter what your background, no matter what your family life is like, and no matter what obstacles are thrown your way, if you have someone who loves you and looks out for you and if you have a

mind to succeed, then anything is possible.
I, Donald Driver, am living proof of that. There have been many times in my life where I have failed, wanted to give up, or have made a stupid decision that could have seriously altered my chances of being here today. Growing up homeless and in the projects of the Houston area taught me one thing; Never give up. Overcoming the struggles of living in Houston with no long lasting father figure and overcoming injuries have helped me become a much stronger person. First off, I would like to thank Ron Wolf, without him I would not be the person I am today. Ron believed in me when I wanted to give up and never stopped pushing me to strive towards greatness. Before Ron many people in my life did not believe in me or my dreams. I learned to prove them wrong. I would also like to thank Brett Favre and the fans of the Green Bay Packers. When I was drafted to the Packers, I did not know what to expect nor did I know what it meant to be apart of the Packers family. I did not know why Green Bay was nicknamed Titletown or just how great Packers fans are. Although I couldn't even find Green Bay on a map before I arrived, I
quickly found out what it meant to be apart of the 100,000 people in Green Bay. I first discovered how great the Packers community truly was during Family Night. 70,000 amazing fans came out to watch! 70,000 fans at a practice! Packers fans are truly the greatest in the NFL and I am humbled to be apart of the greatest franchise in the National Football League. Green Bay will forever be my home and I couldn't be happier to have played 14 seasons and win a super bowl with them.
Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. Topics gone over in this essay include his early life, his college football career, his NFL career, his army career, and his education.
Adversity is defined by the Merriam-Webster's dictionary as, “A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.” The Supreme Justice Sonia Sotomayor has overcome adversity many times in her life. One of the first adversities she encountered was at the age of 7 when Sotomayor was diagnosed with diabetes. She soon realized that “She would not depend on the adults in her life to keep her alive. Instead she gave herself her own insulin shots”(Barnes). This shows that Sonia had little support from the adults around her. It also shows that Sonia knew that depending on others would only get you so far. Also Sotomayor overcame the limits of her cultural, social, and class background. A quote
I believe that Dale Earnhardt was the greatest stock car driver there was and ever will be. He was down to earth and didn't let money or fame stop him from connecting with his fans. Dale has done many great things with his life, and also great things with the community and the people that followed him thought his racing career. Dale was a role model to many and other drivers looked up, and respected him.
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
Once, a wise soul has spoken, “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful”. Adversity means having troubles and difficulties. It’s what you need to persevere through in order to do something you’ve wanted to do for a long time. If you want to pass that test, you’ve gotta conquer your fears and fight through all the troubles that arrive in front of you. Become your own hero. Adversity is a situation that took place in the novel “The Outsiders”, by S.E. Hinton.
Most people do not actively seek out adversity, yet few can escape encountering adversity in the form of hardships and afflictions. Two people who faced great adversity in their lives were Martin Luther King Jr. and my father Brent Vickery. These men both faced adversity in different degrees and at different times and places within the United States, but what makes them similar is that their strength of character allowed them to face adversity boldly.
Adversity can be defined as a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. Many things in life can bring one adversity, however some are faced with more adversity in their lives than others. Overcoming this adversity can be one of the most difficult things that a person encounters, and at times, it may consume them. People attempt to persevere through adversity in many different ways. One of the most effective ways is to keep pushing through and to never give up. If one loses sight of what is driving them to persevere through adversity, it will swallow them up with no remorse. Staying mentally tough and focused on an end goal is how people not only persevere, but thrive through adversity.
And if it is true that the lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success then I am right. This is where my path to success really begins. It is never late to start again. Small things that aren’t so small can have a big repercussion in someone's life. We as human beings need to learn how to be more loving, respectful and compassionate. I am so proud to be who I am today because of this past experiences. I believe almost everybody has had a time in their lives in which they failed, nobody is perfect. Failure indeed can be fundamental to later success, but the expectations of success are not what people think, at least for me, but I certainly know I'm not
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
Our life is like a story. Everything we do and every adversity we overcome helps us write our chapters. “Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.” In this quote by Arthur Golden we recognize that the adversity we face determines who we are as human beings. Some of the adversity we face can alter our lives drastically. In the novel, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, the main character encounters many events of adversity, some of which changed his life forever.
Donald Driver is a legend on Lambeau Field, even though he had difficulties in his early life. From homeless to hero, this is how Donald Driver had a pleasure playing the game, making every second, minute, and day count, and overcoming his obstacles through the love and support of his friends, family, and community on and off Lambeau field.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
Many Americans are aware of the recent Olympic success of Simone Biles. After years of hard work and family challenges-not limited to foster homes and adoption- she overcame the struggles to earn two gold medals (USA Gymnastics). Adversity, also known as a difficulty or misfortune, occurs in all lives. Whether it be drug addictions, trouble at school, or a tragic loss, adversity can be overcome.
First of all, an example from literature to support this is in the novel The Fault in Our Stars. In this novel, Hazel Grace fought through having cancer instead of giving up on life. At the beginning of the book, she seemed like she was just going to give up on life, but when she went to a support group, she met her best friend, and ended up living a great life. Of course, she had many problems, but she always just went straight through and stayed strong. She could have just easily given up on her struggle, but she ended up having an opportunity come along with it, meeting her best friend.
People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
