The vignette I decided to choose was the 30-year-old female of African American descent. After reading the vignette, I had several questions that popped into my head that really depend on how I worked with the client. Working with court-mandated client automatically makes me ask what documentation will the courts want, what are the courts looking for, and who should I be talking to in regards to the case or rather who can I talk to in regards of the case. It is not a typical client.
On first meet, I would make sure to do a basic introduction. This would include that I was a mandated reporter, paperwork (such as HIPPA) and so forth. I would want to make it really clear that they understood the mandated reporter part due to this being a domestic violence case and the client understanding it is for their safety. I would then want to hear from the client as to what brings them to therapy. I might have gotten a report from the state, but I would rather hear it from the client themselves. Personally, I believe it is important to hear it from the client’s point of view, and hear what they have to say. It is (after all) their therapy.
With all of this said I have worked with Child Protective Services (CPS) before and know where you can and cannot go in regards to certain

Families and clients’ can operate on different levels of stress, which can vary from good to bad depending on the situation (Catherall, 2004, p.325). One individual might be better in a single life style where as another might be better in a relationship life style (Catherall, 2004, p.325). There are also individuals who function better in a working life style than in a home life style, or vice versa (Catherall, 2004, p.325). It is well known that stressors can come from any part of our lives as well as coping mechanisms as well (Catherall, 2004,
One of the reasons why IPV victims do not leave his or her abusers is due to isolation. This one of the any methods abusers use in order to achieve control over his or her victims. Abusers isolate the victim by cutting the victim's ties to any support system and resources. A support system includes family, friends, classmates, coworkers, and the government. Isolation is one of the many methods used in order to gain control over the victim’s life. In the autobiographical novel, I Am Not Your Victim: Anatomy of Domestic Violence, the author Beth Sipe discusses the domestic violence that she had suffered during her 16 year marriage. Sipe describes their “romance,” the abuse of power, Sam isolating her and her family, the confusion, the fear, the
The Stress Model we have chosen is the Double ABCX Model. This model is suitable for our movie family because we are able to see the problems that the family has faced. The model encompasses the major variables of interest in the movie, including our pre-crises, crises, and post crises. We can see this in the first marriage, the divorce, and the second marriage; as well as everything in between. Many of the stressors are found in many categories. This is because they were not resolved by the crisis- divorce. Resources fall into many categories as well, because how they are used changes how they affect the family system.
According to Murray Bowen’s family systems theory, the family subsists in an arrangement, whereas the individuals are inseparable from their network of relationships, but continue to strive to be individualized. Consequently, various forms of these networks are grounded in the domestic structure and the “normal” or “ideal” family and its development is derived from the interaction of the family members as they remain differentiated, anxiety is minimal, and partners have beneficial emotional communication with their family members (Nichols, 2014). Subsequently, the idea of achieving individuality while remaining in a cohesive family unit may cause stress. Concepts such as differentiation of self, triangulation, emotional cutoff, and anxious attachment may aid in the elucidation of the family system. This theoretical concept along with these coinciding terms will be explored through one episode of the television series The Goldbergs called Rush.
With the increasing number of cases each day, concerns are being raised as to whether the rights of parents are being violated. It is common knowledge that there have been serious accuracy flaws resulting in the wrongful termination of many parents’ rights. However, little is being done to fix these errors and give parents their children back. Child Protective Services is the most needed yet unwanted agency in each state. While a system is necessary to intervene and protect children who are abused, there is speculation on the procedures and policies the state uses.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) helps our communities guard our children, disabled and our elderly from abuse and neglect. This agency also helps protect the children in foster homes or any 24-hour child facility. The consultants provide intense investigations and prevention programs before placing a child in a new home. Texas Child Protective Services, also known as CPS, has five main goals which include: investigating reports of abuse and neglect of children, providing services to children and families in their home, placing children in foster care, providing services to help youth in foster care make a transition to adulthood, and placing our childr...

There are many different types of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the most obvious form, but this is not to say that outsiders always recognize it. Generally, physical violence causes bodily harm, using a variety of methods. Slapping, pushing, throwing, hitting, punching, and strangling are only a few methods. An object or weapon may or may not be used. There is not always physical evidence of physical abuse such as bruising, bleeding, scratches, bumps, etc., therefore, absence of physical marks does not necessarily mean physical abuse had not occurred. Physical abuse sometimes escalates to murder (Morris and Biehl 7, Haley 14-17).

Domestic violence can be described as any form of abuse towards a victim, whether physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, psychological, or economical. The stakeholders in such violence are the abuser(s), the victim(s) and the bystander(s), all of whom are affected in some form or another by the abuse. For further clarity, domestic violence in this discussion refers to situations where the principle stakeholders, i.e. abuser and victim are in a relationship, for example partners, co-workers or friends. Domestic violence affects all stakeholders, not only the victim but the abuser and bystanders, and it can be easily prevented.
Domestic Violence cases are very hard to handle. Whether you are a police officer,EMT, or first responders, lawyers, judges, and etc. These types of situations can be dangerous for the victim and the law enforcement agent working the case. With the long hours, and endless pain and stress that goes into working these cases, the dedicated officials carry the weight with them daily. As a law enforcement agent, their job is to protect and serve. Through research and interviews, with professionals in this field. How comfortable would you be coming into a home where someone’s life is being threatened, and you have no idea what the abuser has in the home? Are you willing to risk your life or family’s life to defend the a stranger’s life?
Having a family is no easy task, especially when you are faced with many challenges that are unforeseen. Sometimes one imagines or hopes for an ideal family. The ideal family would consist of a spouse, one or two kids and live happily with little to no conflicts. The reality is that even if one tries to avoid conflict by all possible means, conflict is inevitable. Stressors and strengths within a family can be seen in almost every situation. Although stressors tend to be more noticeable than the strengths. Some of which will be discussed later on, although it will be mainly focused on the strength and stressors faced after a divorce for children. But if one focuses on the stressors more than the strengths, one will only see stressors rather than solutions.
...ing about their story the client will bring emotions and it will be easier for the therapist to understand better were the client comes from. The client felt comfortable and reported feeling safe in the environment, the observer reported that made many open questions. But I gave the Client the opportunity to continue to continue talking about her when I asked. Is there’s anything else you want to talk about? At the times that were she had more to say.
During a stressful situation, people tend to handle their stress in so many ways. The family system is often entangled in stressful situations.
Physical Violence is classified as an act of intentional violence that involves the use of force which could possibly result in physical harm, disability, or even death to the victim. Conducting an intimate partner violence (IPV) assessment and safety plan video presentation was a great learning experience. In this role play, I had the opportunity to be a client experiencing IPV and also created a safety plan as a therapist. As a client, I took on information from my family of origin to portray the client’s role. As a therapist, I was able to create a safety plan with my client that illustrated some strengths along with areas where I need to improve on.
