If yes, then you will love this surefire way to get them to stop jumping up on you, immediately. The way to train a dog to stop jumping is very simple. You let them jump up toward you as usual, but you catch their paws in the air. Hold the dog up in this 'standing' position until it is clearly uncomfortable for them. Then as you release them down, say in a firm voice, "Down!" If they don't seem to mind you holding them up in this 'standing' position, then you just

pinch into their paws until they are a little uncomfortable. They will let you know when they've had enough either by putting their snout up to their paws and your hands or by whimpering or both. Each time you let go, just use the 'down' command in a firm voice. This method is so effective, that you can actually train the dog in the first one or two times. I have even trained my friend's Pug dog on the first visit. My friends were amazed. It was so helpful because he had razor sharp claws that would scratch people's legs up. When you notice that he is not jumping up anymore during the first training session, try to lure him up by tapping on your chest for big dogs or your upper legs for smaller dogs. Notice the fear of jumping. But if they give in to temptation, just repeat and reaffirm that jumping will not be tolerated, anymore. Always praise them for the good work by getting them to sit and then giving a good head scratching and maybe even a kiss or two. Keep this in mind - you should turn him after every hour or so. Keeping your dog's spine is equally important. His back should be well-covered with a hot-water bottle. Along with that, consistently stroking and gently massaging your dog's back is often useful and helpful. Whatever you do with your dog, remember to always handle him in a very smooth, gentle, and caring manner. Don't think about mercy-killing your pet dog unless the veterinarian renders the situation to be totally hopeless.
My dog is a small female shih tzu and she's ten years old.

She's cute, funny, smart, and pretty much a conspiracy theorist. Most dogs would greet you by licking your face and shaking their tail; my dog shakes her tail alright, but instead of licking you she would run over to where her food is and start eating compulsively. Does she think we're going to take her food? We've had the dog ten years and she still thinks we're actually going to eat her dog food??? The issue with her food has been going on for about eight or nine years. She's always been given great care and we've shown her that we do love her--but something inside her still believes...that we're secretly conspiring to steal her food? When I approach with the food she shakes her tail and groans as if demanding I do it fast. When the food is served she starts eating regularly, but if you try to pet her, or even make a comment about her, she stops and looks at you suspiciously. It's incredible the way she behaves, it's almost human. She does not continue eating until you've moved and stopped looking at her. When she's done she's going to bark and groan some more, demanding more food she could obsess over. I understand how this would sound like a horrible pet, and incredibly difficult to handle and train--but I am convinced my dog loves us (you can tell by just looking at her) and all these issues she has I suppose are just displays of her personality, not all dogs have to behave the same way anyway. If I took her to a dog psychologist they'd probably find something that is the root of her personality issues--or maybe they'd tell me that the dog is simply paranoid and cannot be trusted, that she's a risk and her behavior is unacceptable. Overall, I consider my dog a very special one, extremely smart and cute.
