Although dodge has been producing trucks and cars since 1917, the 1981 these cars were the first to sport the Ram name. To begin with Dodge actually used the Ram’s head ornament back in 1933 to characterize its trucks and rugged vehicles. The symbol was dropped in the 1950’s and then resurrected for 1981 when Lee Iacocca and dodge’s marketing team decided to name Dodge trucks and cars after the Dodge Brothers.
Dodge is now a “muscle” car brand, but the Dodge Brothers never made a muscle car. Their cars were known for being just about the opposite of “muscle.” The famed brothers descended from Ezekiel Dodge, who moved to Michigan in the 1830’s and opened a shop to repair boat engines.
