Do Video Games Make Kids More Violent? Video games are one of the most addictive things in the world. Researchers said that more than 1.2 billion people are playing games worldwide whatever genre is. Many people buy it to have fun with friends, other people buy it for themselves, and others just buy it because they don’t have nothing to do at home. What many people concern about is whether or not kids should play video games. In my opinion, I believe that video games can make kids more violent for three main factors. First of all, video games are very addictive mainly. Usually, young people prefer action and violent games. For them it’s fun, but they don’t realize that it can be a weapon to change their behavior through society. On example is one of my cousins who had 10 years old when he began playing …show more content…
violent games. He was a smart guy, with a good status on the primary school, and he never showed a bad or violent behavior there. However, this behavior began to change when he had his first disagreement with one of his classmate. Everybody became astonished with him. His mother tried to talk with him but he was rude with her. He didn’t want to talk with anybody. His mother though it was because of the video games, so she took away the video game. My cousin was yelling and screaming because of it. After 2 weeks without playing video games, he changed his behavior. He began behaving well through his family and friends, and his status started to increase again. In my opinion, had my cousin not to have violent games, he would not have behaved as he behaved before. Moreover, violent games can make people very frustrated. For people who became easily angry, violent games is not a good thing to spend their time on. Usually, those violent games have levels of difficulty. It starts with the first level, which is easy, until the highest level, which are harder. When people are playing on the high level, the game becomes very hard to pass. They start getting angry easily and they start yelling at him self. Most of them began to talk alone like crazy. For example, I have a friend that always is talking alone, and when I go to talk with him or to ask what happened, he said that he didn’t pass the last level of a war game. He explained that he has to pass the game because he may win a kind of money from it. Many people say that video games can be good for education.
According to a research done by the New York University, educational videogames can motivate students and it “may yield learning benefits”. Another research done by the Texas A&M International University says that Violent video games helps to relieve stress. It can be true, but it also influences kids negatively. Violent games usually contain explicit language. Kids may learn from the game. They may imitate what they see or hear on the video game. For kids who are learning new language for example, violent games are not a good thing for them. They start learning bad words, slangs and it may affect their learning …show more content…
process. In conclusion, I believe that violent games can change or make kids more violent in real life. It wasn’t my case. I agree with some country’s policy to band video games in their country. That’s the example of China’s. Work cited "More than 1.2 Billion People Are Playing games." VentureBeat.

The allegation that videogames cause violent behavior in children has been present as long as videogames themselves. Some researchers said that the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, was one intense gamer. “Seung-Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech Shooter was seen by his roomates as odd because he never joined them in video games.”(Beresin) This debate will continue to go on in this country as long as there are horrific crimes that occur. There is much written in the research regarding this issue, and many differing views. The research that is presented in the next few paragraphs supports the theory that it is not the graphic video games that produce aggressive behavior, but other factors in a child’s life that create violent actions.
Children that play violent video games at such a young age will have a bad effect on them. “Not everybody who plays these games will become murderers, just as not everybody who smoke gets cancer” (Quittner, J). Every day people play with these games will have an effect on the way they look at things, they will begin to have aggressive thoughts, and they will begin to have a change in behavior. On average boys spend thirteen hours per week and girls spend five hours on video games. This amount of time a week will have a major effect of these children minds. “Violent video games effect people. They increase aggressive thoughts, angry feelings, and physical arousal symptoms.”(Rollins 1)
The first set of cold, clammy hands closes around my ribs. Another circles my ankle, my arm, my neck. With an irritated sigh, I restart the level for the third time as the words, “Game over” flash across the screen. Sound familiar? This scene is very common among modern zombie apocalypse games. Though the titles of these games vary, the theme remains the same: to fight for one’s life. Users are thrust into a world where they must combat violence thrown at them with violence of their own. The sheer thrill of it can be very exciting and relates well to many youth because of its life or death component. All of a sudden, eight year old boys are armed with machine guns to blast the heads off of shuffling zombies, bug-eyed aliens, and more commonly, modeled soldiers. But, while the video games continue to be mass produced, the cognitive and social skills of America’s youth suffer. With the mental health of the newest generation on the line, is it really justifiable to pass off buying the newest violent video game as innocent fun?
At this day in age we bask in the luxury of having easy access to advanced technology at our disposal. From the World Wide Web, to cell phones, music, movies and video games the human race has thought of any and everything to keep us entertained. Over the years studies have shown reasonable concerns regarding the long-term effects of video games. These games can desensitize gamers to real life violence, which is usually seen in the younger crowd. The studies especially hit on the games containing player-on-player violence. Though these games are extremely entertaining and can get kids to settle down for a while, if not properly supervised, they can produce adverse effects. Other studies have shown that video games can be used as way to yield positive outcomes such as, good problem solving skills, cooperation in a group and the ability to flow. Although there has been psychological research on children learning through the actions of others some believe that children are automatically able to distinguish between what is just a game and what is reality. The longer they are allowed on their game system the more they become convinced that their games are real. Some researchers believe violent video games can channel the aggression of the child but the parents are to blame for what happens to the child after playing an excessive amount over a period of time. Children can become preoccupied with these violent video games which have been proven to be the cause of poor social skills, uncontrollable aggression and a false reality.
First of all it is important to specify what exactly children are being exposed to when playing these games. There are several controversial topics inside of mature rated video games, most notably being violence and gore. According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board, or the ESRB, there are over eighteen thousand video games featuring violence and gore, several of which feature realistic looking human characters fighting and even killing other human characters. Another controversial topic in video games is the harsh language. The ESRB notes that an astounding twenty-eight thousand video games have language that someone could find offensive. Many children are younger than ten when they begin to play video games and being exposed to offensive language could start the child to using similar inappropriate language. Approximately the same number of video games have drug or alcohol abuse. In the majority of games containing drugs or alcohol a character will use them with little to no consequence, being completely unrealistic possibly making a child believe they could use the same d...
In conclusion violent video games could make the player so violent to make the player kill a person and cause behaviour problems. However, violent video games may lead to a positive impact on student’s behaviour at school, as reported form teachers, maybe it isn’t the games causing violence in people, and it could be because of the area that they are living in. Therefore it is clear that violent video games don’t cause violence in real life, it’s generally because of the way they are treated at
Violent video games are becoming more popular among children and adolescents of all ages since its debut approximately 30 years ago. This growing popularity is generating an increasing concern that these sometimes very graphic videos and life like characters can have a negative influence on the younger generation. Although never proven, there has been speculation that some of the high school shootings across the country were committed by students who were habitual players of violent video games. Due to these concerns, a non-profit, self-regulatory organization was established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) to appropriately rate all video games from EC (early childhood), E (everyone), E10+ (everyone 10 and over), T (teen), M (mature), and AO (adults only). While assessing the efficacy of violent video game ratings, it is unknown how effective these ratings are for the intended audience (Becker-Olsen & Norberg, 2010).
Do video games cause violence? Violence in our real world caused by playing a video game that has guns in it or even death. Some people say they do and others don't. Here are my three reasons why video games do not, have not, and will not cause violence.
One article points out that video games have a big impact on children’s lives and that many of the games played are violent. Researchers have found that “nearly all children spend time playing video games” and studies have found that “8th graders spent an average of 17 hours per week playing video games” (Tamborini 336). Moreover, 68% of the most popular video games contain violence (Tamborini 336). So it is clear that many children have access to violent video games and they have a big impact on their lives simply because of the amount of time spent playing them.
By far the largest concern of technology today is video games. There have been so many experiments and studies to try and figure out if video games have a negative or positive effect on our children. A growing body of research is linking violent video game play to aggressive cognitive, attitudes and behaviors (D.A. Gentile, 2004). Video games can obviously be dangerous for our children causing aggression, bad performances in school and obesity. Although we cant blame all of these problems on the use of video game...
On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. After this, President Donald Trump has made allegations towards the video game industry, blaming it as a main factor in the shooting. According to the website Quora, excluding mobile games, there has been over 15,000 games produced since 1985; “Many have been family-friendly, some sports, but the most in quantity and popularity are FPS or Action video games, that include violence such as killing people and committing other crimes.” (Pro Con) Although many people have been suspecting that the root of violence, such as school shootings, have been a result of video games, they actually benefit people in many ways.
With the development of technology, violent video games invaded every house, and now it played by every teenage in every family, whether on mobile phones, computers or gaming devices. Some people do not believe that those violent video games effect on the children, while others believe that the government should prevent the selling of these games. However, violent video games made a negative influence on everyone, on children brain like thinking skills, which made their behavior aggressive, on their physiological energy and feeling leading to segregation and violence between siblings in the same family, also on the parenting role of the parents, who are do not know anymore what they should do with their children.
“YOU SUCK!” “I killed him!” “Head shot!” These are just a few examples of dialogue spoken by children while they are playing violent video games. These video games might seem like harmless fun, but what if the violence in these games is affecting the behavior of young players interacting with others?
What they see make them what they do. Today generation 4 and above young children are using phone or ipad playing video games. At this game kids supposed getting love by their parents and doing something that help in their grade school. For example if we decided to put kids in two group and let one group play violent video game and other group play non-violent video game, we will see big change here. Kids that play violent video games act aggressively because after they play video game they starting making sound like shooting gun and start play fighting with whoever around them.
Violent video games are special games, which negatively influences to the attitude and behavior. These video games are popular between children and teenagers. Since 1980-s years violent games are in political discussion. Because when teenagers usually play violent video games, they are becoming aggressive and then they face with psychological problems. For this, some people claim that violent games are harmful for society and they affect to behavior and health.
