What do people do when their personal beliefs conflict with the laws of their society? In the play Antigone, the king makes a law that conflicts with Antigone’s personal beliefs, this causes her to break the law and go against the king. When someone’s beliefs go against the laws they will try to either go against the law and do something about it, do nothing about it and nothing will happen, or try and have the law/rule changed.

When people’s beliefs go against the rules they will do whatever, no matter what the consequence. In the play Antigone, the king makes a law that Polyneices, Antigone’s brother, can not be buried because he betrayed the kingdom and if someone buries him they will be killed. Since Antigone thinks that he should be buried because it is the right thing to do and every deserves a proper burial, she goes against the law and buries her brother. Antigone says, “But I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy: I shall lie down With him in death, and I shall be as dear To him as he to me.” Antigone shows that she does not fear death as long as she buries her brother properly. …show more content…
