Kids everywhere around the world have homework. Homework is part of a child’s school life, it is normal for them. What is bad is that hours and hours of homework per night is casual for a student. Over the years homework has grown to be a tremendous expectation for any student across the world. A past experience of mine is that every night I have at least an hour or 2 of homework. According to blogs.edweek.org the average amount of homework per night in high schools is 3.5 hours a night! Research has been shown that kids have 3 times more expected homework by the NEA and national PTA according to the website “Do Our Kids Have Too Much Homework?” Teachers have been raising the expectations on homework for a while and this is why kids should …show more content…
An author states this about this purpose, “I believe that children have many outside activities now and they also need to live fully as children. To have them work for six hours a day at school and then go home and work for hours at night does not seem right. It doesn’t allow them to have a childhood.” (Do our kids have too much homework?) What this means is that instead of being children and running around and having fun they need to do hours upon hours of school work at home which the just supposedly “finished” at the 6 hours of school they just sat through. Another reason is that homework that is completely useless gets in the way of the child’s free time. Tonya Noonan Herring, an attorney and former english teacher, agrees that students have too much homework and that most children are bringing home almost 2 hours of homework each night (Do our kids have too much homework?) What this is saying is that the amount of homework the children need to do is ridiculous along with the fact that half of it the child does not even need to know. The last piece of evidence is that even some very young aged kids have a loss of free time because of the amount of homework they have been given. “Kids today are overwhelmed!” a parent recently wrote in an email to GreatSchools.org “My first-grade son was required to research a significant person from history and write a paper of at least two pages about the person, with a bibliography. How can he be expected to do that by himself? He just started to learn to read and write a couple of months ago. Schools are pushing too hard and expecting too much from kids.” (Do our kids have too much homework?) This proves that young kids (even in the first grade) have been forced to give up their time to do something that
A article by Annie Murphy Paul called The ´´Trouble With Homework´´ talks about how homework is like a double shift for High School, Middle School, or College School students as their first shift is 7-9 hours in school per day. The trouble with homework is that students have other things to do after school like sports, hobbies, or a job that they have to attend to after school. Some students also want to just relax after school and have a good time with friends or family and homework is affecting them because they always worry about it and can't do things they want to because they have to finish it. One mother said ´´School for [my son] is work´´ as she is referring that when her son comes home he has to work another 1-5 on his homework and
A problem with elementary students having homework is that their parents end up doing it just to get it over with. According to today.com there was a rule established by the National Education Association that limits the amount of homework any age kid, especially elementary should have to do. This is called “the 10 minute rule.” Kindergarten students should not get homework but first graders gets 10 minutes, second graders gets 20 and so on. This rule has been broken by teachers giving kindergarten students almost as much homework as a third grader should have. Because this rule is so often broken, parents are forced to step in and help their kids so they don’t look back on their life as all I did was homework.
Homework has been an integral part of education since children started to be educated. Recently however, homework has begun to be assigned more and more often to students, especially in the United States, as it has begun to fall further and further behind countries like China, Singapore, and Japan. Homework is anything assigned by teachers to be completed by the students either at home, or just on their own time. The workload for students has gotten to the point where more and more parents are starting to notice the load for their kids has gotten to be too much. Many kids in high school, even 9th and 10th graders, can have 3 or even 4 hours of homework every night. In the past couple years, homework has gotten so out of control that parents are starting to speak out, and protest the amount of homework that students get each night (Marzano). In addition, studies have been done to determine the value of homework, but overall, the results are mixed at best (Kohn). Even studies that show a positive relationship between homework and test scores, among other things, show that homework is only effective when assigned in a moderate amount. Too much homework can be counter-productive, or have adverse effects on students. Students with too much homework can perform worse on tests, and develop serious physical and mental health problems from too much stress or lack of sleep.
Khristina Janer, a mother from Illinois, says, “I don’t feel like a parent. I feel like a drill sergeant!” when making her kids finish their homework after an extended period of time (Wallace). Many studies show the effectiveness of homework and all of the benefits it can do for us; the problem is: teachers are making kids do too much homework when they get home from school. The teachers don’t take in the environmental factors that could be harming any student 's ability to get a task done. Teachers automatically believe that kids are irresponsible or unmotivated when they don’t succeed in finishing their homework. When kids are given this much, or this difficult of, homework, sleep is being sacrificed. Even when they are doing all of their

Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
This proves that kids Need exercise and time to themselves. Additionally, if kids had no homework, that would cut down an Hour or Two of
The first reason there should be little homework is that it may be too hard. It may be too hard because say if you a lot of homework in math and you had no clue of what you were doing and had no time to ask questions. Then when you do homework you have no idea of what to do. So eventually you will get frustrated because you can't finish. In New York Times it says “first graders and kindergartners working, on average, for 25 to 30 minutes a night.
This is a big deal because it creates more work for teachers, separates kids from their parents, and decreasing homework will decrease these problems.(http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/lake-zurich/community/chi-ugc-article-5-reasons-why-students-should-have-less-homew-2016-03-22-story.html). If the teacher don't get all the papers graded then they start to get stressed out. Same for kids because some kids that have a bunch of homework get stressed if they don't get it done in time. (http://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/homework-is-too-much/). Professors say that stress from too much homework causes sleep deprivation and health issues.

Sadly, homework eats up the time children have to do all these” (Druker online). Druker is explaining how students need to take a break and focus on their other important activities after school as well (online). Family time helps kids refresh themselves after a long day and homework can very well get in the way of doing so. Seven hours of homework per week are too much for a student to handle, considering that students are supposed to sleep eight hours a day, go to school, and have things to do outside of school. Too much homework is known to give students stress. Also, too much homework has been found to stop a student’s motivation to learn because a student may become overwhelmed. Many people believe homework is a positive exercise to practice, but in my opinion homework has more negative effects than positive effects.
When coming home from school most children have chores such as dishes, vacuum, trash and cleaning one's room. According to Katie Mclaughlin in “pencils down:stop the homework insanity”, the text states, “at the beginning of each year, my neighbor sits down with the teacher and principal and explains that her daughter does not have time for, homework because she needs to play and do chores”. This evidence supports my reason that children in the everyday life have chores to do because this writer is trying to state the mother's child doesn't have time for homework because of chores, there are more important things to be done. Yet, the department of education still gives to much
“I am going to be so busy tonight, what am I going to do?” said Jordan. Students enjoy the nights they have less or no homework because they can get overwhelmed and stressed with too much of it, or it takes up too much of their time, and they also sometimes get too caught up in how much homework they have, they forget how to do it. However, some people believe that there should be homework in school. There should be less homework for students.
Kids need more time to be kids and be more around family instead or having to do homework all of the time. Most kids spend about 2-3 hours doing homework and not with family or friends according to, Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids' Health? Students do tons of homework that it is causing most parents to say that they only get to see their children during dinner time or they might not even be able to go to dinner because they just want to be done with homework. As Kamala Nair said to prove that parents mostly see their child during dinner time or not at all is in t To add on, because these kids are spending much time on homework, it is causing them to go to bed late, when you go to bed late but wake up early in the morning you are probably going to be tired, and when you are tired, it is most likely going to be hard to concentrate which can lead to bad grades. In this case too much homework can actually cause bad grades and, not help your children witht the things you may not know.
