Recommended: Introduction of autism
Since the beginning of time mankind have been concerned with the disorders that involve humans. Through the evolving science technology and scientific methods, scientists, psychologist, and doctors have been able to discover more than one hundred disorders within the human race. The disorder I’m going to talk about is Autism Spectrum Disorder or Autism. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder most common in children. Autism consists of social skill and communication impairment, along with repetitive, and restricted behavior patterns. Autism has not been a single one known cause. Two factors such as genetic problems and environmental factors are prime candidates for Autism. In some Autistic children genetic disorders such as Rett Syndrome are found. Other genes affect brain development which cases the severity of the disorder. Scientist are researching whether environmental factors can cause Autism. Diagnosing Autism can be done by the age of two years old, sometimes even younger. It takes two steps, developmental screening and comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. Developmental screening shows whether child is learning the basic skills they should know or whether they have delays. Observations on communication, behaviors, movement, and how the child learns are made. …show more content…
There are three main signs when dealing with Autism, social skill impairment, communication delay, and unusual interests and behaviors.
Social skill impairments such as no response to their name, avoiding eye contact, anger issues, and wanting to be alone is present in the child. Delayed speech, repetitiveness, OCD, and rocking of the body and flapping hands are also symptoms the child may have. They also can not tolerate loud sounds and do not know how to express their own feelings.Other symptoms such as being very hyper, aggressive, and unusual reactions are found in most Autistic children. Symptoms may decrease and or improve over time in some
cases. Autism can be treated in many ways. Behavioral training and management is used to improve behavior and communication. Children with Autism are also advised to go to specialized therapies to manage their Autism. In severe cases medication is prescribed. The medication helps their hyperactivity and helps calm their anxiety. Data and statistics have given us a lot of information on Autism. From research we see that Autism occurs in all racial groups.Statistics show that one in every sixty eight children are diagnosed with the disease, statistics also show that one in every six children have a developmental disability. Autism is also most common in boys and with people with genetic disorders such as Down Syndrome, Tuberous Sclerosis, and Fragile X Syndrome. Parents with one child with Autism are most likely to have another child with the condition. Children born to older parents and or premature or underweight have a high risk of having autism. Data shows that forty six percent of Autistic children have above average intellectual ability. Because Autism has increased tremendously in the recent years, research is still being conducted since their is still yet a lot to learn about it.The National Institutes of Health has funded eleven Autistic centers to investigate early brain development, interactions in infants, genetic mutations, and other risk factors. Autism Speaks is an organization which also helps this cause. Millions donate to Autism Speaks to help find a cure.
According to Autism Speaks Inc. (2015) research has determined there are more than 100 autism risk genes. Both Autism Speaks Inc. (2015) and Autism Society agree that there is a high genetic factor in children with autism, as well as an environmental risk factor. Autism Speaks Inc. (2015) suggests that many things can be responsible for autism in children. Some of these things include parental age, maternal illnesses, extreme prematurity, low birth weight and oxygen deprived babies. According to CDC (2015) people who are older who are having kids are putting their child at a higher risk of being diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be detected early in a child’s life. ASD is a developmental disorder classified by problems with social interaction,
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that effects the brains development. It is characterized by affecting communication, cognition and social interaction. The spectrum of the disorders ranges from a mild condition called Asperger’s syndrome to a more severe form, which severely impairer’s development. The Office of Communications and Public Liaison states that the disorder affects one and eighty-eight children, however ASD effects boys more frequently than girls (Office of Communications and Public Liaison, 2013). ASD emerges in all age, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. The significant varied character and severity of the disorder is why ASD is considered a spectrum that poses a broad range of symptoms.
Every year doctors diagnose thousands of adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Due to the growing awareness of autism and recent developments in technology, scientists and doctors can now discover and observe the effects of autism on society, and people. Starting with its discovery, researchers have been able to diagnose people more effectively. Doctors are beginning to discover what causes this disorder, and are currently trying to find ways to prevent and treat it. Many places have opened their doors to people with this disorder, creating autistic friendly environments where people are patient and understanding. Schools have also become accommodating to autistic children and adults. Autism also puts great strain on family and home lives.
Autism is a form of neurodevelopment disorder in the autism spectrum disorders. It is characterized by impaired development in social interactions and communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is an observed lack of spontaneous acts of communication; both receptive and expressed, as well as speech impairments. A person diagnosed with Autism will also show a limited range of activities and interests, as well as forming and maintain peer relationships. The individuals will display limited interests, which are often very focused and repetitive. He or she is likely to be very routine oriented and may show behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggressiveness, and self-injurious behaviors.
nces are. But the main theory that many people think causes autism is vaccines. Although vaccines are supposed to prevent disease, people think there is a chemical in them which causes autism, but this theory is false! The cause of autism has not yet been fully determined, but it is not caused by vaccines; it is usually ca...
When people hear the word autism, they think of someone with mental disabilities. Psychology Concepts describes autism as a “complex and poorly understood disorder.” (541) According to the National Institute of Mental Health, autism is defined as “a group of developmental brain disorders, collectively called autism spectrum disorder (ASD)”. There are five different disorders in the spectrum, which include autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder, pervasive developmental disorder (not otherwise specified), Rett’s disorder, and childhood disintegrative disorder. Many people do not know there are various disorders that are considered a form of autism.
Autism is a serious disorder that damages the person’s brain which causes them to not have the ability to communicate and interact with other people. Doctors and scientist should take this disorder really serious and find a cure to this disease. It mainly affects children, there is not just one cause, and there is not a cure to this disorder.
Understanding autism, which is professionally known as Autism Spectrum Disorder, otherwise known as (ADS) can be a difficult task, especially for someone who is not trained in helping persons with disabilities. The first person to discover autism was a child psychiatrist, Dr. Leo Kanner in 1943. He names the spectrum disorder after the Greek word autos, meaning of or for oneself, due to the way the child display social avoidance. Many doctors’ believed in the past that autism was caused by the way the mother not caring for her child properly or ignoring him or her. There was also a time when it was thought to be caused by certain environmental stresses that cause neurological issues within the brain. Autism is one of the most misunderstood
Autism is a developmental disorder which affects many small aspects of the person's life and can sometimes affect major parts. Autism affects 1 in 68 children and for most it’s a lifelong
( Autism Spectrum , 2009 ). Kids with autism usually show signs within the first three years. Signs can be difficult to notice at first even though a child with autism has it at birth. Children at a young age might not be interested in simple common games such as peek a boo, and may not like to be held. They also may seem to have problems with their hearing ability. The child may not seem to be able to hear you and does not respond, but when hearing a distant noise like a truck or train, this will get their attention immediately. Teens with autism seem to start changing their behavior. They may seem to excel in certain skills but with that their ability to understand and relate to others expressions. They also seem to have more of an issue understanding and going through things with emerging sexuality and puberty.
Autism usually occurs within the first three years of life, and drastically affects the development of a child. It is also the fastest growing developmental disorder in the United States (Autism Project, 2014). One out of eighty- eight children is diagnosed with Autism, and boys are five times more likely to be diagnosed (ASDS 2013). Many areas of development are affected by autism. This is a disease that disturbs the brains normal development of communication, social interaction, and sensory processing (Inc 2013).
Autism is characterized as a developmental disorder that is seen in children by the age of three years old. Autism affects the brains normal, natural development, and causes many impairments. The major impairments that affect an individual are reciprocal socialization, Qualitative impairment in communication, and repetitive or unusual behavior. Signs of Autism can be seen in early infanthood, with proper awareness and resources. An infant child can appear to be adverse to eye contact early on. Some signs in early infancy appear as being indifferent to affection and physical contact. When spoken to, they can appear to be deaf or ignoring the parent or caregiver. Noticing the early red flags of Autism can provide an early intervention and give the child the best chance at learning to tolerate their environment. Children around three years old will display certain signs and symptoms.
Autism is a group of developmental brain disorders that children undergo during their stage of development. Children with this disorder can have some symptoms, abilities and levels of impairment or disability. Signs of autism can have different impacts on each child; others may slightly impair, and others may completely disable a child. Most cases of autism are caused by the permutation of hazardous genes and ecological factors influencing early brain development. This disorder has got its roots in the early brain development; however, they are not early noticed. The most noticeable signs and symptoms tend to appear between two to three years of age.
The autism spectrum includes several signs that a child might have autism such as being sensitive to noise, not understanding others emotions, and many more. More children are not actually getting autism, but rather the
