It's more permanent than a separation and involves a legal process, but the most common reasons spouses divorce are: lack of commitment, infidelity, too much conflict. Kantian ethics says that the morality of an action depends on a moral law that is universal and absolute and not on the consequences of the action. In other words, Kant argued that actions are morally right if they are made out of a sense of duty and if the guiding principle of the action can be applied universally. Finally, in some cases it might not be ethical to re-marry after a divorce unless it is with the estranged spouse. While some believe that divorce should only occur when a couple is no longer in love, others might not think it is wrong if it is handled respectfully and with compassion for all parties. There is no one "correct" answer when it comes to deciding whether or not someone should file for divorce even if they still have feelings for their spouse since in the end, it all boils down to personal belief systems and values. Even though most people would agree that this isn't a simple ethical challenge to overcome, an ethical decision-making framework can help individuals through the process of deciding whether filing for divorce is the right course of action despite loving their spouse.
