In the book ‘Divided We Fall’ the author’s overall message, in my opinion, is perseverance and no matter how difficult the situation, never give up and always try to complete the task at hand. The main character is put in a very difficult situation where everyone is against him and some people even try to harm him, but through all the situations he was put through he persevered through all of them. There could also be a political message to people in this book, but I think the message is to persevere. The main character, Daniel Wright, was a high schooler who enlisted in the Idaho Army National Guard. He had a great life. He had a girlfriend, great friends, a truck he loved, and he loved playing football. Everything was going great until the night he got called into The National Guard for an emergency. There was a riot going on outside of the state capital at Boise in Idaho. Once he was called in he and his unit got to the capital. His unit tried to get the people to leave but they would not disperse. His unit then put on gas masks and threw tear gas at the people. Some people left, but others stayed and still were protesting and rioting. Then, someone threw a rock at Daniel and hit him in the head and his gun …show more content…
went off. After that, a ton a people started shooting. Some civilians were killed and people around the nation were outraged and wanted the people in the national guard arrested. The governor told the soldiers not to tell anyone about this and that he would try to keep their identities a secret. It took Daniel awhile to get over what happened in Boise.
His girlfriend kept talking about the Boise incident and how she wanted the people arrested. It was really hard for him not to say anything to anyone. He never kept secrets from his friends and had to try to assimilate to the new change. Finally, he ended up telling his friends what happened, after he couldn’t keep the secret from them anymore. Then the president leaked his name to the public and this changed how Daniel had to live. There was a guy who tried to kill him once, news reporters following him around and staying outside his house all the time. Daniel then had to assimilate to this new way of living life. It was difficult to live this new way of live but he dealt with it and kept
going. Although Daniel was faced with many challenges throughout this novel, he never gave up and was the kind of person who persevered no matter what the situation was. He had to assimilate to a new way of living after experiencing a major event that changed his life forever.

Based on true story, Lieutenant Phillip Caputo and his experience of the Vietnam War. During this era there was a rebalance act within the young adults community in America, they did not want to live the boring and peaceful life their parents lived. This generation of young adults got fixated on the stories and heroes that came from the WWII and what they can do to experience this “trill” first hand. The novel is written with Lieutenant Phillip Caputo in mind starting when he first enrolled in the Marine Corps at the age of 20 in hopes of chasing his fixated dream of the war. At first Phillip had this elusion that the war would only last a couple of months and that he’ll be the American hero everyone talked about. Then the slap to the face

In that time, when Blacks were starting to be accepted in American culture, a religious profession was something to aspire to. Therefore, Daniel constantly urged Ira to follow in his footsteps. He took him out of the theater so he could sit next to him in his church.
The main character’s mental health deteriorates rapidly, experiencing hallucinations and loss of reality. In one scene, there is a consistent strobe light on as he shoots and there are also mannequins where we shot the soldiers. In another, someone surprises Walker and he jumps on him and beats him to death with his gun. Walker has a hallucination that there are burning victims running towards him when he is in the middle of a later battle, and Adams calls out to Walker to get him out of it. He also has a dream that is like the hallucinations he experiences where a victim says “There was always a choice. You just fucked it up.” and “I thought my job was to protect this city from the storm, but I was wrong. I have to protect this city from you”.
...rs particularly me can connect it with other dystopian story with an anti-hero main character, Brave New World, 1984, and ““Repent, Harlequin!” Said the Ticktockman” to name a few. All of which play on the satirical ideas of Communism in the 1940s to 1960s era society in the United States. I believe that Collins message will hold dear in the same respect as the other aforementioned story and novels in the sociological sense. That being to prioritize your values as a society and do not let the need for progress get ahead of you, because it will only lead to your demise and destruction. In addition, it shows the need to respect internal morals and that they are usually more forgiving than the physical ideals of the society.
1In the introduction of the film, Daniel’s mother is offered a job far from the life they have led. Daniel and his mother leave the ordinary world and accept their Call to Adventure.Their lives in New Jersey are over and they set out to begin a new life in California. Daniel did not have high hopes of their new home and environment just as most heroes are, “... uneasy, uncomfortable and unaware” (Vogler, Hero’s Quest Cycle) of what will happen when they leave their ordinary world. When they arrive in California, Daniel’s new environment starts to change him. He quickly makes a new friend who welcomes his new neighbor to a beach party. This is where Daniel’s call to adventure really begins as “his situation shakes up” (Vogler, Hero’s Quest Cycle).
The story starts out with Kin Sackett and his brother Yance Sackett living in the beautiful backwoods of the new world. Kin and his brother had set out on a hunt for good food and warm clothing. As Kin was searching, he instead came upon a wounded Indian. Kin had stayed hidden since he didn’t know if the Indian was out hunting or running from something. In activist Parker Palmer’s essay “The Politics of the Brokenhearted”, he speaks about how today in America we are very divided. We often separate into groups of “us” and “them” and in doing to make mortal enemies of “them”. Palmer seems to have written this text with the intention of trying to get people to unify and understand other people's ideas. If we can unite with our “enemies” and start to see their point of view, we will be able to finally see in the darkness and find the truth.
It implies, “With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.”
During times of crisis, there are two kinds of people. The ones that refuse to try and surrender, or the ones that do anything to survive. Some will burglarize, others will go primitive and attack, but no matter what troubles are ahead of them, people will always do their best to persevere.
War is a terrible phenomenon that ruins millions of lives and takes away thousands of them. With all its story lines, the movie Divided We Fall perfectly shows how horrible results of any war can be. It makes viewers think about
...our differences, or view them as causes for separation and suspicion” but use them to unite us together to make a change.
