Indisputably, everyone learns from things that they are not accustomed to or that are different. Everything that we see or don’t has an aspect of human diversity due to the existence of differences between one another. Hence, diversity exists everywhere and, honestly, makes life more interesting! As a common theme in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” diversity proves to be an invaluable life lesson to major characters in the film and in the cultures they represent. However, all too often in the real world, some people take the meaning of diversity and use it as a lever to induce discomfort, polarization, and conflict between individuals or groups.

Cultural diversity is an important element. Often times we acknowledge cultural diversity but we don’t quite understand it simply because we do not live it. With this novel, readers can understand cultural
Throughout the semester, we have been introduced to many topics related to interpersonal communication. I have come to believe that these concepts have allowed me to better understand interactions that occur in our daily lives. My knowledge of these concepts was challenged when asked to relate these notions to a movie. During the time that I was watching the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I realized myself grasping onto what was going on and being able to relate certain scenes and situations to topics I had previously learned about. Interactions in My Big Fat Greek Wedding display concepts of conflict and politeness theory, which can be pointed out in a few specific scenes.
The roles of diversity and uniqueness are a crucial part of society today. Without these qualities being enforced into the American character, people won't produce thoughtful ideas that could help shape America. Both authors illustrate the evil effect of conformity in society and support how one should be self reliant, not phony, and confident in their own beliefs and ideas.
Theoretical perspectives on families come in many forms. These perspectives help to provide a basis of understanding of the dynamic relationships found within families. Lamanna, Riedmann, and Stewart (2015) define the Interactionalist perspective as the communication and face to face encounters between to individuals and their ability to be aware of one another. This family view best applies to the father-daughter relationship between Gus and Toula Portokalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Gus, the dominant rule setting father, has made it his goal to embrace their Greek Heritage to its fullest extent all while maintaining certain roles for each member of his immediate family. While Gus strives to protect the family’s roles and community
This essay will discuss the intrinsic relationship between diversity conceptualization and social integration presenting a response against David Brooks’ essay entitled “People Like Us.” In order to do this I will discuss four crucial elements: the influences of different definitions of diversity in cultural unification, Brook’s ideas about social groups working together and social groups coexisting together, the importance of diversity, and the influence of diversity in social changes. I will examine why some people have the perception that our American society ignore or see as unworthy diversity. Thus, I will dispute Brook’s view stating that our society disregards diversity, and Americans just pretend that it is important to them.
Weddings are a celebration of love, family, and culture. Monsoon Wedding and My Big Fat Greek Wedding combine these aspects of weddings to tell us two different stories that revolve around very similar themes. Both movies portray the importance of family and acceptance through events and conflicts that surround a wedding. However, the different types of romances, marriages, and cultural issues depicted in these movies create two distinct images that can be seen as polar opposites, while sharing a similar message.
Although we have taken monumental strides in the past fifty years towards racial equality and diversity, it is still commonly argued that popular culture lacks some sort of racial representation. In the United States, the people who live here are vastly diverse when it comes to race and culture, yet in the media people of color get marginalized and stereotyped everyday in film, music, and etc.

Racial and ethnic diversity on television is not something that I have ever really noticed as a problem, but sitting down, and paying very close attention to the people, their roles in the show, I was able to see that there was a lack of diversity on TV. I chose a random TV channel, one that I probably would not watch, and studied the characters in the show and in the commercials for over two hours, I realized that I had never paid that much attention to the people in the show. I noticed after I was done that the largest group of people in the show and on the commercials, were white people, although there was some diversity, maybe one or two people of a different nationality, gender, or race, that overall the lack of diversity was minimal compared

What comes to mind when you think about diversity? Differences can be good or bad depending on your view. If you have watched a movie about wars you might have an idea of what caused it. Freedom Writers is a movie that involves diversity and race, this sort of diversity can cause a serious problem. The way you physically look to the eye tells you how you will be treated by people. “Everybody thinks you should be happy just because you’re young. They don’t see the wars that we fight every single day”. This is the problem that the students in this school face every day, they all have guns to protect themselves and there can be dead bodies everywhere without protection. Freedom writers make your life different because it changes the person’s
