Diversity
The opportunities are changing fast ‘globalised’ humankind is turning towards a large amount of younger generations. Young people are entitled to an education that equips them with the knowledge, skills and note value that they need to take on the opportunities and challenges they will be faced with, and to create the sort of world that they want to live in. An education that reinforces their development as Global Citizens. The active participatory methods of teaching for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Evolution help young people to learn how decisiveness is made by people in other parts of the world that

From the article there are six different outcomes of global citizenship which are intergroup empathy, valuing diversity, social justice, environmental sustainability, intergroup helping, and responsibility to act. Each of these outcomes has something to do with caring, appreciating, equal treatment, helping others. With all of these outcomes I think they relate to the development of my own identity because as a young child I was taught to be loving and caring towards other no matter what. My parents taught me to be giving and not to be selfish. When I think of Intergoup empathy I think about a group of people and there is that one person who is left out and involving that person in the group can really make a difference. Valuing diversity to me is caring for those around the world who come from different backgrounds and cultures. Social justice means equal rights for all people and I think we should all be treated the same no matter or race, color, religion etc. Environmental sustainability is so important because it is caring for the environment that will keep our earth healthy. Intergroup helping is volunteering, helping, and giving to those in need globally. I feel that intergroup helping is in each and everyone of us and there has been plenty of time in my life when my family and I have donated to charities or volunteered to help out with food, …show more content…
Analyze how your general education courses influenced you to become a global citizen. Just from the articles and videos I think general education courses influenced me to become a global citizen because apart of me was always involved in giving, helping, and supporting but this course helped me to have a better understanding of what it really means to be a global citizen and what the outcomes are if something is done for the better. Individuals who are highly identified global citizens are globally aware, express caring and empathy for others, embrace cultural diversity, promote social justice and environmentally sustainable living, and feel a responsibility to act to help others(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013). The present model shows global awareness as an antecedent to identification with global citizens. As noted by Dower (2002a), all humans are global citizens; however, some individuals lack the awareness to recognize their connection with humanity as a
Claudius the new King of Denmark and his new wife Gertrude, enter the stateroom which is currently occupied with members of the council. Members include Voltemand, Cornelius, Polonius, Laertes and lastly, the Great Hamlet dressed in black. King Claudius: Although my dear brother, Hamlet is now deceased, his remembrance is still fresh within my mind. It is proper to grieve for him throughout this entire kingdom, but it's best to grieve while also thinking about one's self. Therefore, I have married my previous sister in law, Gertrude, who is now my beloved wife.
In Nussbaum’s article I have a problem with the unrealistic goal of universal cosmopolitanism, as it is impossible for an individual to think of themself fully a citizen of the world. A sense of home identification will always linger as no one feels welcome or is welcomed in every nation or community on earth. It is impossible to make a patriotic person non patriotic as no one person has had the exact same
All teachers have the responsibility to develop skills and qualities in their pupils that are beneficial to their lives and the lives of others. Citizenship, a virtue that many humans have, however not every person has the qualities that further them as a citizen within today’s society. I display citizenship by participating in a number of
However, through this course I have also come to recognize that due to the negative perception that is placed on our generation, the political objectives of young people will likely never be given adequate consideration by public officials should we continue to practice engaged citizenship while disregarding electoral participation. My personal definition of citizenship is recognizing the privileges we have as citizens of the United States and contributing to one’s community in whatever way they are able to do so. A responsible citizen is not simply an observer of the political process, but rather an informed
However, a cosmopolitan would argue that the ethical value and rights granted should apply to every individual, instead of communities or nations. Even David Miller recognizes that it is natural to believe we have a certain obligation or responsibility to others outside our own nation, such as the world’s poor. This is because we are all human and have a humanitarian impulse inside us that makes us concerned with the well-being of others.
When you think of a good citizen what do you think of? Naturally we think of someone who is active in their community, and takes responsibility for their actions. So what is a good citizen on a global level? What is Global Citizenship? Well, opendemocracy.net states that,
...blems are growing in magnitude and will neither go away nor resolve themselves. They require action by having students be trained and willing to deal with difficult and complex global issues. Students should have a degree of literacy regarding the global problems, issues, concerns, and trends that increasingly impact their lives. Through awareness students will know and understand that global issues and challenges exist and affect their lives. Awareness is a necessary prerequisite to understanding. Students will be aware that their information and knowledge on most global issues are incomplete and that they need to continue seeking information about how global and international issues are formed and influenced. Global education is a lifelong process. New global issues will emerge in the future, and new insights into current global challenges will be generated.
“A global citizen is someone who identifies with being part of an emerging world community and whose actions contribute to building this community’s values and practices.” According to Global Citizens Initiative, a nonprofit global social enterprise, this is what it means to be a global gitizen. It is necessary to understand the defining factors of a global citizen in order to understand Johansson Dahre’s quarrels about the human rights discussion. Dahre argues that there is no middle ground between universalism and cultural relativism. Thorough analysis and critique of this dichotomy manifests a divergent human rights theory, Relative universalism. Dahre’s suggestion that Relative universalism
Diversity is a notion, when applied to the majority of circumstances, can create a positive conclusion. The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together. Consider a classic dinner combination peas and carrots, the two colors look appealing and the two flavors comes together as one making a superb side dish. Now consider oil and water, these two substance are not often considered a good combination. Although, this is not always the case; olive oil and vinegar (which is water based) when mixed, come together into a delectable salad dressing. Diversity and inclusion should also apply to humans by bringing people together who are different it can creates a whole that is enhanced by the uniqueness of each individual.
The most rewarding life is one in which there is a major element of serving others. Many people find a way to do this in their lives. Of course, there are many ways in which an individual can be of service to others. Some of the biggest problems at the global level, though, go largely unaddressed by most of us, and I think this is an area where young people can make important contributions.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
While many Americans, and even more unfortunate is American teachers, claim that global education would harm American values and go against what America stands for (Webb), a global education presents the ability to either properly expand upon one’s knowledge of the world with accurate information about their true culture and their language, or a global education could either undeservingly demote or promote a country to a ranking it may or may not deserve. Without global education, our future generations will face unnecessary challenges and face the possibility of destroying everything that we, the world, built upon to maintain
A citizen is not just a legal status defined by rights and responsibilities but a shared identity, the expression of one’s membership. A good citizen preserves his personal integrity and avoids the conflict of interest: he equally enjoys his private and public life without discontinuity in his character; he sees the latter neither as a burden nor as a platform to pursue his personal projects. To be a good citizen is to believe that you can make a difference for the better.
We cannot stop the phenomenon of globalization due to strong interdependence of our lives on those things which are a product of globalization. It has complicated the process of education but has also created many opportunities for countries to break out of the traditional models of education. The idea of global citizen is seen as a person who can act locally but think globally, is a goal that keeps an eye on maintaining cultural diversity while exposing a country’s citizen to the benefits of globalization. Cultural diversity can be strengthened through globalization by providing means and resources to support cultural groups attempting to make a difference in society while maintaining their distinctive set of values and
