Divergent Sparknotes

In the previous book, Divergent, Beatrice Prior (Tris) left her faction, Abnegation to go to Dauntless. When she finds out Erudite is trying to overthrow the Abnegation by mind controlling the Dauntless, she goes on a mission to prevent it. After succeeding, it left the city in chaos. It created more problems that she would face later on in the book, Insurgent. An hour after it ended, Tris and Tobias travel to the Amity headquarters because that’s where the surviving Abnegation are. An Abnegation gives her a pink drink that makes her wake up in terror thinking about how she killed Will. She thought about how she could’ve handled the situation differently. She hides the gun she used to kill him and the attack simulation data that the Erudite were using to control Dauntless.

She doesn’t tell anyone because she is too scared to. After Tris cuts her hair, she feels braver. Marcus, Tobias’s father, knows why the Erudite wanted to overthrow the Abnegation but refuses to tell her. She overhears him talking to Johanna about Jeanine’s attack, when she put Dauntless in the simulator that made them turn on the Abnegation, and also finds out that Jeanine was trying to steal important information from the Abnegation. She tells Tobias and he doesn’t take it seriously but she does, so she continues to try to figure out why. Peter tries to steal the attack simulation data to go back to the Erudite because they think he is a traitor. He fails and gets beaten by Tris. Amity finds out that she beat him so they inject her with peace serum because it is against their laws. After the serum stops affecting her, Erudite arrives at the Amity headquarters to find Tris, Tobias, and the others who stopped the simulation. After they arrive, Erudite go to confront the Amity leader, Johanna. They ask if Tris and the others were there. She says no but the Erudite do not believe
