Divergent is all about how the people in the book rebel against the government and fight them, while they survive. The book divergent has shown the characteristics of secrecy, friendship, risk and fear are all shown through the main character of the book, her name is Beatrice. At the start of the novel it is pretty calm but as it goes on, further and further, Beatrice needs to try harder to fit in and not let anyone know that she is a divergent. Once she leaves her home she strives to survive, not die and to make sure she doesn't become factionless.
Survival is explored in the novel divergent when in the book the main character, Beatrice finds out a new characteristics about her. That she is divergent. Not knowing what that means she has to keep it a secret. Although she doesn't understand the importance of being divergent she has to keep it to herself in order to survive in the novel. This can be related to real life, for example, if a friend tells you a secret, for that relationship to survive you can't tell you're friend’s secret to anyone else.

At the start of divergent Beatrice has to choose one of four factions, a new setting, to spend the rest of her life in.
If she chooses one she doesn't like or fit in with she is stuck with that, and she ends up going with the most rebellious faction out of all of them, the most dangerous faction and she picks that one. Her chances of survival are made slimmer because she took a risk to go somewhere where she feels she might fit
in. Relatable to real life, you have to make choices that will affect you in the long term, those choices can be safe, but won't give you the satisfaction as taking a risk and ending up safe. But at the same time if you take that risk and it backfires then was the risk worth it? The faction Beatrice chose in the novel isn't just dangerous and rebellious, they were also very focussed on fear in the initiation part of joining their faction. So while the story goes on, we get to learn about Beatrice's fears and see how she survives being a divergent and keeping her fears to herself and not letting anyone know, because fears are flaws, and flaws are weaknesses and when you have a weakness anyone can use it against your survival. Just like how in real life if you tell a friend something that you're afraid of, and then they tease you and poke fun. But you tell them a deep fear, that fear is like a secret and if they turn against you they know what you're afraid of. And they can use that fear and knowledge against you. In divergent, to survive Beatrice has to change her setting and go live in another place after changing her faction. In order to keep surviving she has to go through the initiation that immediately starts after the choosing ceremony. If she fails right at the start she will either die, or become factionless and in the novel, being factionless is considered the worst thing possible. Similar to real life, sometimes you’ll undergo a change in your own setting and have to go somewhere new. Some reason might be by choice and others simply because you have to. Usually moving out of home is the first change in a lot of people's setting, times after that may be because of their career. They may have recently got promoted and now their line of work has a changed setting. Others may not be so lucky, war torn areas forcing people to leave their own country and becoming and moving to another one illegally just to survive. Beatrice has to stand up for herself a lot in the novel, as where she comes from has a reputation for lacking courage and bravery, even though they help the poor factionless. During initiation she stands up for herself against one of the leaders. Immediately after regretting her actions she doesn't back down and she facing her consequences. Why she might back chat to her leader, I don't know, it may be to keep her reputation of being brave and rebellious up but none the less she does this a few times. If someone had wronged you and made out like you were a bad person you wouldn't be so happy now would you? Of course not, but you it's likely you go out and try to fulfill your reputation and make sure it survives. To show that you are the same person that you were before and not this bad person someones made you out to be. People sometimes do this out of jealousy or spite, which isn't anything bad for, except that they've made you out to be a bad person which you can fix. The survival in divergent goes the whole way throughout the book. From the changing in setting, and adapting to new environments to meeting new characters and seeing if they can trust them and survive together.
The two sculptures have some similarities and differences. They are both sculptures of the same subjects in very similar poses. Riemenschneider carved his sculpture from wood, while Michelangelo carved his from marble. I find Riemenschneider’s sculpture to be more appealing because of all of its intricate wooden details.
Survival is selfish in many ways in the book, “Night” by Elie Wiesel. It’s selfish by the Jews forgetting their friends and family members around them, and only thinking about themselves. In the book
While the book is definitely critiquing society and the government, readers are given many dominant themes to follow, and to find all of them requires several readings. The main plot, following Montag, illustrates the importance of making mistakes in order to grow. For example, at the very end of the book Granger (an outspoken rebel to the book-banning laws) compares mankind to a phoenix that burns itself up and then rises out of its ashes over and over again. Man's advantage is his ability to recognize when he has made an error, so that eventually he will learn not to make that mistake anymore.
By definition, survival is to continue to live in spite of challenging circumstances. Survival is an instinct that everyone has and people are usually compelled to make tough decisions in order to survive. What happens when those decisions could be pernicious to innocent people and even ruin their lives? Octavia Butler explores this idea in her novel Kindred. The main character Dana Franklin is forced to make some complex decisions in order to survive. Dana is sent back in time to the 1800s to help a little boy. She soon discovers that the little boy is actually Rufus Weylin, her ancestor and she must continue to help him in complicated situations throughout his life because without him she will never come into existence. She goes back and forth between the Antebellum South and her home in 1976 and even brings her husband along. In Kindred, Butler uses Dana’s choices to explore the idea of survival and how people handle the difficult

She is successful and ranks first. She slowly realizes that in the excitement of the day, the Dauntless leaders have again exercised their power by injecting a serum in members to fight Abnegation for them. This again shows the corruption of total power in society leaders. Realizing the control over fellow Dauntless members tris gets Four and they set out to reverse the serum and fight the simulation. The story continues in Roth’s second book of the Divergent Trilogy Insurgent. Divergent has been well received and in a review given by The New York Times, Susan Dominus wrote that it was, “rich in plot.” Common Sense Media commented on the book’s “deep message about identity and controlling societies” and on its unstoppable
Throughout 1984 and Divergent, conformity and obedience force the characters to go to great lengths in order to follow the basics and rules of the government. Throughout Orwell’s 1984, the individuals of the society hang onto every word, law, and thought of Big Brother. The citizens focus primarily on the Ministries and Party, not forming connections or relationships with others. Each member of a party have certain jobs and clothing assigned to them, separating them for others to easily detect. The same concept lies within the factions of Divergent. Each faction has a different job, and different colors to wear in order to display their role in society. The leaders of each Faction also hold the phrase “faction before blood,” depicting the same messege Big Brother enforces in 1984. Both governments want the individuals to stay within their parties, and do the jobs assigned to them. However, both novels include characters refusing to conform and obey to government rules. In 1984, Winston Smith resents Big Brother, using his knowledge from the Minitrue to reveal the lies the government spreads. Because of the disatisfaction Winston shows towards his government, O’Brien follows him, tortures him, and brainwashes him into conforming like the others. In Divergent, the government leaders label Beatrice Prior as a “divergent,” or one who possesses more than one
An example of survival can be found in the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The town’s people were scared of this unknown creature and were afraid for their lives. In an act of survival, they hunted the beast down in a full town riot. Lucy, John, and Van Helsing hold a significant part in the novel as far as surviving goes. Even though they shared more than others, their survival skills left a significant impact on the
... believe that Divergent shows students the deeper meaning of symbols in a book the student actually likes to read. In contrast, numerous people want to discontinue the book because it is a movie, and it contains religious messages; these two things can be taught around by creative teaching in District 200. The students’ education should be the first priority, and one can believe this book will further the students’ knowledge.
The most remarkable thing about literature is its effect on society and the individual. Every once in a while a book is published that truly relates to those who read it. Divergent just so happens to be one of those books. Divergent is an extreme take on the differences of what virtues humans value to form the perfect society. The book’s contents are almost philosophical, acting as sustenance for the heart and soul, meanwhile highlighting the many problems we face in modern society through quotes in a subliminal fashion that coincide wonderfully with the story. One such quote can be found on pg.441 and it reads ‘’ Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before the bad creeps back in and poisons us again.’’ It almost breaks the 3rd wall. Human beings were born with both flaws and goodness. We are a double edged sword with extreme potential on both points. Deep down there is something dark in everybody. There are those who can control it and those who are weak and succumb to it.

The novel is essentially about women. Women from different periods, of different ages, and oddly the same in various aspects. We get to know women that apparently lead perfect lives, considering the external aspect, and all of them come to a moment in their lives when they stumble upon the superficiality of their days and face their disturbed inner selves. The fates of the three characters cross because of the fact that Laura is reading exactly the book Virginia wrote, while Clarissa Vaughan appears to be a kind of living breathing Clarissa Dalloway.
Survival is indeed a word that can change a human’s perspective on what they need to do to remain alive. In order to survive, people have been known to go to great lengths and to do things they would not ordinarily do. I have noticed this throughout my life by watching movies, and reading books. Most of the time, it is the main character who comes face to face with death, and does anything to keep themselves alive. I have set up a few great examples that show’s people in their survival situations, and what they will do to get out alive.
I believe this book show the true struggle with family, life, and society. Divergent reveals that life holds its ups and downs and that anything can bring out the ugly in someone’s life. Having to choose between one way of living and another is something everyone goes through and it can be hard. Even if one made the wrong choice, they have to live with it for the rest of their lives. Divergent shows that anyone can be scared of even the littlest things and those things can tear someone apart. If made my fair share of terrible choices but I choose not to let them get in my way of making my life right. I have fears that I don’t know why I have, but I have them and they can’t effect me and what I want to do.
When someone reads Divergent they become enraptured in a world of morality, family, loss, love, war, but above all a journey of self discovery. Our whole class was enthralled by the exhilarating journey that Tris went through and were eagerly awaiting the chance to see Divergent come to life on the big screen. Our expectations for this movie were fairly high, but unfortunately our expectations were thrown into the chasm just like Al.
