Anyone that knows me; know I am a true Disney fan! So when the opportunity presented itself I was excited! My first experience of Disney on Ice was the best! The event started right when I walked through the doors. Disney on Ice wasn’t a normal show or play! It was something that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. When we arrived, we were greeted with bright colors and show pictures. You know the saying “you had me at the hello”. That was literally what happened entering the arena. From the booths were you could get your face painted. Other booths were you can dress like your favorite princess or character. Elsa, Anna, and Disney princesses’ gowns were all over the place. They had Olaf faces, mickey mouse ears, Sven the reindeer antlers:
they pretty much had everything! Entering the arena was breath taking! The music met us at the entrance and children singing all the words to the songs. In the stands, you saw kids waving bright blinking blue, red, and white lights, mini Olaf’s, Anna’s, Kristoff: just the half of it. You heard loud Disney music once you got closer to the ice like; “For the First Time in Forever”. I swear I knew the whole song! On the ice, the colors were glowing numerous shades. The lights go off, and the ice starts fading in and out. A beautiful purple/pink shadow. Stars start shining on the ice and curtains. The curtains already had several shades of orange, green, blue, red from top to bottom. We all assumed the show was about to begin! Then two familiar joyous voices come on the speaker! It’s the ones that started it all! The one and only Minnie and Mickey Mouse! They come out ice skating through the curtains. Minnie and Mickey begins to WOW us in a huge performance! More characters come out in different outfits. Some of the characters have full costumes on; like like Mickey and Minnie. The original Disney characters present their full story in a song or dialogue. The show finally ends with all the characters singing together. We all get to dance and sing along with them at this time. The performances were astounding. The atmosphere was good. It was a family oriented event; that I would recommend to anyone with or without kids!
Disney’s new movie “Frozen” has caught the eyes of viewers and has surprised us all, reaching No. 1 in the box Office and have pass over $300 million of tickets sold, this movie has no sign of slowing down any time soon. “Frozen’ is one of the few recent Disney films to capture the classic Disney script, like “Cinderella” or “Snow White”, it’s a heart warming and loving story, guaranteed to thaw a frozen heart. Unlike the usual Disney princess story line where the girl has a poor life or things just don’t turn out like there suppose to, they wish upon a star, fall in love, then bibbidi-bobbdi-boo they have a happily ever after. Frozen strayed off from tradition and decided to go for more of a different approach. True love has always been a key concept for Disney films. Sleeping Beauty, true loves kiss broke the spell, Beauty and the Beast, true love broke the curse, Snow White, again true love broke the spell, its the same concept, but in Frozen instead added a twist and showed love between sisters Elsa and Anna. It adds a twist in tradition, so that a reason why older viewers and even critics can enjoy, its something new and different. The movie “Frozen” is based off of “The Snow Queen”, a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The story is about an evil troll, also known as “the devil”, makes a mirror that when looked into distorts the beauty and good of people and things to the complete opposite, ugly and bad. One day the troll and his friends try to take the mirror to Heaven the make angels and God look like fools, but when they were almost there the mirror falls and shatters into little pieces almost dust. This “dust” travels around the world and gets into peoples eyes and into their hearts freezing them. Years later a girl n...
Probably one of the most important decisions I've made in my life happened this year. The decision was me , choosing whether i wanted to do drumline or play hockey. As a freshman going into the first year of highschool, it lead me to think of plenty of things. But one important fact that stuck out was me deciding if I wanted to pursue music or sports. As a freshman , I knew that I couldn't balance sports and marching band at the same time. Rehearsal for marching band happened everyday after school until 5 pm. I knew I couldn't do homework and study for tests with only 3 hours if hockey started at 9. So, I made the decision of choosing drumline over hockey. Not only would it help me balance my time doing homework, it would also help me on my
Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past four years knows that Frozen took the world by storm in 2013 with its powerful anthem, “Let it Go” and its unconventional ending. The Frozen obsession which has swept our culture quickly and entirely left me curious about its roots. In the quiet halls of the McCain Library & Archives, I sat down and began to read The Snow Queen. In the beginning, the differences seemed minimal. Rather than a set of royal sisters, Elsa and Anna,
The nature disaster that can remember was an ice storm in January 1997. I just had my son one week before the ice storm. The ice storm lasted for about a week. There was ice all over the power line which cause lights to be out all over the city. The lights were off at my home for a week and we had a gas heater in our restroom. The heater kept one room in our home warm as if the central unit was working. I was overwhelmed because I just had a new born son with no heat or hot water for a week. I would place my son can milk on the bathroom counter to keep it at room temperature.
“Ring, click.” You heard that right, that was the sound of sadness. That alarm means only one thing it is Monday! The first day of the week which means I have five days of school sigh, but wait what is that outside? I can barely see, but I can tell it’s white outside, wait what is that? It's snowing! “We are going to have a snow day!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs as I ran through my house!
It’s a beautiful morning, the air crisp and clean, not a cloud in sight, and the temperature cool but not cold. A perfect day for skiing. I take a deep breath in and hold it, smiling at the smells of pine, snow, and fresh air. I love fresh air. I reflect on this as we, my friends and I, move up the mountain on the (five person) chairlift. We’re at Huntington, the local ski mountain not twenty minutes away from where we live, Genoa, a neighboring town of Tahoe. Every weekend, my friends and I come here to get away from the stress of school and to relax. My friends are chattering away as I fade in and out of the conversation. Then something Lizzie says catches me.
It was the winter of 2010 when I first saw snow come from the sky and actually stick to the ground from the window of my childhood bedroom. I was eleven years old, in the sixth grade, and before this I had only seen snow when my parents would drive my brother’s and I to Lake Tahoe to see it. In California where I grew up it was extremely rare that it got to temperatures where it would snow, nevertheless actually stick. I remember waking up that morning and going into my parents bedroom and telling them that there was snow. Real snow! After they got up and looked out of their window, I ran down the hall and through the front door. I remember standing with my mouth open to the dark morning sky and tasting the cold frost of fresh snow while still
One of my favorite things to do up here in this town is going skiing. I started off snowboarding and when I fell on my face for the millionth time, I realized that it was not for me and I switched to skiing. Everybody starts off really bad at it but I learned very quickly and soon got better than some of my friends who had been doing it longer than I have.
February of 2012, five years ago on a charming sunny day. It was a normal
Tiptoeing on the grimy, yellow-tiled pool deck with my caps goggles in hand, I felt a little uneasy with the new swimmers who just tried out and made the team. Standing in the corner with her arms crossed, there was this one new girl, Ann, who had the meanest look on her face. For nearly two years, I made sure to jump into a different lane than her every practice. Every swim meet she would walk around with the older girls and I did not dare to make eye contact with her. Our swim coach basically forced us into the same lane when we began to train for the same race. She was the only other girl in that lane so I had no other choice but to talk to her. One day she asked me if I had seen this funny video on Youtube and to my surprise, our conversation
Snow. Its funny to think that before today, I had never seen the thing called snow. The giver gave me something called a “memory”. He placed his hands on his back, and I soon felt a new scene engulf me. I was on something that I later knew as a “Sled”, I was going down the slippery hill super fast.
The second I stepped foot onto the amusement park’s property, I could feel the magic swirling all around me. As I walked through the crowds of people young and old wearing Disney apparel and Mickey Mouse ears, everything seemed so enchanting: the cheerful music, the twinkly lights on all of the buildings, and the stores that could have been from my favorite Disney movies. Walking along the streets, I took pictures of everything around me because I did not want to forget a single detail; I took pictures of the vibrant yellow, red, and pink flowers that lined the streets, the buildings with intricate details and designs, and the massive roller coasters that glided so swiftly on their tracks. The air was filled with heavenly scents of sweet churros, and I had to get one; it was delectable. Everything at Disneyland seemed perfect and like it was out of a movie. Even as I was about to leave, I got drawn back in; spectacular, bright, colorful fireworks started bursting right over my head, and I could not bring myself to go. My first visit to Disneyland was truly enchanting and magical. At the time I thought no other vacation could
When I was twelve years old my family decided to try snowboarding and skiing for the first time. So with some arrangement made and the car packed, we were ready to go. After several hours of driving we found ourselves surrounded by bright white snow. We were almost to our destination of Seven Springs Pennsylvania. As we approached the mountains of snow we were all excited, but there is more to snowboarding/skiing then meets the eye.
On days after a fresh snow my brother Jalen and I would put on all of our snow gear and spend the whole afternoon outside. My brother and I built forts in the far corner of our house with shovels and dug holes down to the concrete. We spent hours building the walls and attempting to build the ceilings. Passwords were created so our siblings and parents couldn’t come inside. We had towels for the carpet and played games in the fort until it was dark. Every half an hour or so I would have to go inside and drink hot chocolate to warm up. I was never able to stay warm since I was always going back outside in the snow. I spent every day playing with Jalen. My mom called me his little shadow. My brother Jalen has been my best friend and idol since
When I heard my parents talking about going to Disney World I was so excited. It was a long trip down to Florida and I could not sit still, because I was so excited. We finally arrived that evening and decided to stay in a hotel near the theme park. When it was time for bed I could not go to sleep for a long time, because I was so excited about going at Disney world. When I saw the big mirror ball from the entrance, I was amazed. Disney world had a wide variety of rides. There were tons of rides that shocked me. Some of these rides made you feel like you were riding in a jet because of how fast they were. There was even a roller coaster ride in the huge mirror ball. It was a slow ride, but I still liked it because there was air conditioning inside the ball. We spent all day at the park until we had ridden everything. That night Disney World had a firework show. The fireworks seemed like they lasted forever with the amazing colors bursting in the air one right after another. When the firework show finally ended my parents told me that it was time to leave. I was...
