With the increasing universality of social network, it is not only a new medium to make friends, but also a way for business entities to promote their commodities. More customers can recognize the brand as well as the latest products. People, however, are riddled with overmuch advertisement which becomes disturbance and even computer virus. Therefore, both for’s and against of social networking advertisement should be considered so as to realize its effectiveness.
The first criticism of the product promotion on Facebook is its security. Snares are pervasive among the click-through advertisements due to the tracking cookies installed in the websites by hackers [6]. The instruction in the pop-up page misleads customers to provide their personal information including bank account passwords and ID card numbers in order to steal their savings through hacking into their bank accounts. Apart from the installation of cookies, virus can be invaded into computers through the download link in web. Once the visitors download the coupons uploaded in the bogus pages, virus is also being downloaded. It is difficult to determine the authenticity of the websites with such a high similarity and just a few words are changed when comparing with the original address. There is also difficulties in monitoring the traps in pop-up pages because it is an additional page with varied source to the initial page.
The trustworthiness of the promotion pages in Facebook has been enhanced by revising the promotion styles. Since 2010, a function called "instant personalization" was launched in Facebook. The advertising style was reformed from pop-up pages to company profile pages. Using "instant personalization", no...

With social media websites being the main hub of personal information, advertisers are consistently monitoring our social media activity, having the ability to look into our personal information. In the article "Advertising and Consumer Privacy: Old Practices and New Challenges." by Justine Rapp states, “Fueled by advances in capabilities and interconnectedness of computer based technology, advertisers are able to collect and assimilate information on consumers like no other time history” (51). Facebook has become the number one, social media website around the globe. It is the most popular website used by personal and business users in today’s society. In the article “Using Social Media to Reach Consumers: A Content Analysis of Official Facebook Pages” by Amy Parsons states, “As of July 2011, the social network site Facebook claims to have over 750 million members and in the terms of activity.” (27), making it easy to meet and connect with others. Facebook is considered the “hot spot” for online social activity, however, it exposes personal information about its consumers to
Facebook collects a lot of information, which the users share, and the way it has used and protected this information has come under scrutiny quite a few times in the past. The purpose of this report was to find the ways in which the information is shared on the website and the control the user has over how the information is shared. Most of the data in this report was collected from Facebook’s official data use policy.
Problem Statement: In this white paper we will address how privacy and security can be improved on Facebook.
Although this product was quite a few years ago if they were to try to research this product today I would recommend. Advertising copy research. Copy testing helps determines an advertisement's effectiveness based on consumer responses, feedback, and behavior. Laws or something that almost every society has in today's generation. A law can be defined as some a set of rules or regulations that are set out to define the behaviors that develop a society or community. These laws restrict certain behaviors, actions, and sometimes even words. Words throughout time in over history a set of laws turn to be a standard of conduct that was set amongst individuals. A source of a law is simply a background in which a law is created from.
If a user often views things related to cooking for example, then Facebook will start making ads pop up for cookies, grocery stores, and other food related items. Even the advertising industry is breaching on user’s privacy. When someone goes shopping at the store, there is not someone stalking them writing down everything they look at on a pad of paper, and then suggesting related stores to him or her. That would be very suspicious. Now, with Facebook, the company sneakily violates user’s privacy while making them think it is smart technology and is beneficial. Psychologically, advertisers are becoming smarter into tricking their customers. Ad suggestions are more or less an invasion of privacy by the company
There are also many ways that social networking sites can be used to advertise and promote your company. Ads can be placed on sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter.
All social media sites provide many advertisements. On Facebook, you are being advertised 24/7. You are always the target audience that different companies try to attract with different advertisements. They can be annoying at times, but now that I think of it, it worked because it got my attention. Companies use it to try to get consumers to remember at least 5 seconds of the advertisement or the product. A good example of this would be when you are playing a game on Facebook because advertisements consistently pop up. There are times where advertisements catch your attention and you decide to read more about them. This then leads to you sharing this post with your friends on Facebook, which attracts their attention. I can relate this to Mary Louise Pratt, Arts of the contact zone, when she states, “He learned the meaning of expertise, of knowing about something well enough that you can start a conversation with a stranger and feel sure of holding your own” (512). This can be related to Facebook because once you find an advertisement that you can relate to or want to learn more about than you begin to have more knowledge about the topic. This therefore causes you to be more likely to spend money on an item you may not have needed. Thus, social media sites attract consumers using advertisements that constantly come
Facebook had originally advocated for privacy, claiming that they wanted as much information as possible private, in order for people to share more information (Kirkpatrick, 2009). However, in the past year or so, Facebook has changed its privacy policies, making information more public, and making it impossible to change some of that into more private information. However Mark Zuckerberg has made a U-turn regarding privacy, claiming that people now want to share more information and that society is changing and these new policies are a reflection of that change (Kirkpatrick, 2010). However given that Facebook has so many users, and it has such an impact on our society, they are more than mere bystanders, they are not reflecting a social change but rather imposing it (Kirkpatrick , 2009). This privacy change affects many since their information is now available to anyone who wants it as opposed to just a small circle of trusted friends, this leaves a window open for people like stalkers (Singel, 2009) who can find out all about a person, or to theft, since a lot of a person’s personal information can be accessed, personalized scams would be easier to pull off.
Businesses can benefit from social media through cost reduction by reducing staff working hours and increasing revenue. Social media marketing is the fastest means of getting words out about a business or product, that is why eventually all businesses are buying the initiative. Most marketers who are already established in the new social media initiative are beginning to implement their own tactics, which has brought social media to a greater height than it was before. These popular websites could be a great approach for companies and customers to improve their communications by applying them to computers and mobile devices. Social media marketing is a term not really known by many people.
The second tactic is to use the Starkville Community Market’s social media page on Facebook as a method for vendors to target a wider audience. Currently, Facebook is a social networking site composed of over 400 million active users. Users of Facebook can interact with over 160 million objects including pages, groups, and events (Facebook Press Room, 2010). The Starkville Community Market Facebook page can provide detailed information about its regular vendors at the market. The number of people interacting with the page will help promote more viewers because the average user is connected to 60 pages, groups, and events (Facebook Press Room, 2010). This amount of connection can cause a spiral effect in bringing more people to its Facebook page and allowing new people to learn about more about the vendors at the market.
As of September 30, 2013, Facebook claims to have 1.19 billion monthly active users, making it the world’s largest social network (Newsroom). Facebook has become a new phenomenon of today’s society. While Facebook helps individuals to connect, it can also cause problems to users. Over the past few years since Facebook was founded in 2004, the number of Facebook users has grown rapidly. Even though Facebook has become increasingly popular among college students, Facebook has its advantages and disadvantages.
Since social media users grow larger and larger, many companies take the opportunities of using social media marketing to reach more customers. Companies use social media marketing in order to achieve marketing communication and branding goals. Social media allows companies to see what prospects are saying about their brands and competitors. It also allows companies to build deeper relationships with existing customers that drives them to purchase again and again. Not only it can help them generate new leads, but it allows them to build deeper relationships with existing clients that drives them to purchase again and again. It has become common for businesses to branch out and experiment with multiple networks with the aim of reaching the maximum amount of costumers.
Many advertisers are spending time and money on online technologies. More marketers are advertising on internet and more companies are doing online business as well, so this is increasing the revenue of online media. Newspaper advertisement is declining because internet advertisement is facilitating both the marketers and the consumers. (Evans, David S. 2009)
