I had such an amazing experience going back to Discovery this summer for the 4th time. The group of kids that I worked with were all so bright and loving; I will truly miss seeing them every single day. It was so nice to watch the little kids play and interact with each other and be so worry-free and happy. This summer I learned that I can be nurturing and good at getting kids to calm down. Whenever, the kids got upset or into squabbles they would come to me to help solve the problem or calm them down by letting them sit with me or giving them a hug. The most challenging part of work was saying “no” to the kids because they are all so cute and you don’t want to upset them, but it is not always the best for the kids to get everything that they …show more content…
I would have wanted to have gone to bed earlier because a lot of the days I was tired and running around with 2, 3, and 4 year olds who have unlimited amounts of energy can really tire someone out quickly. I think that a skill I really improved on this year was my explanation skills. Usually, I am the type of person who tries to give the briefest explanation so that a person can understand the basics of what I’m talking about, but with little kids you can’t do that because they want to know why about everything. There were so many conversations that I had with the kids where they would respond multiple times and I would have to think of new ways to explain to them whatever they were asking about. I think that is also a great thing about being a kid though is that there is so many things for them to learn about. The thing that I was most proud of this summer was teaching one little boy how to spell his name. He had spent a lot of time with me throughout the summer and that day he felt like sitting with me during recess so I decided to teach him how to spell his name. I began by repeating his name and then the letters to spell it and have him repeat it back to
Overall, I was grateful for this experience. I was able to find out more about the behind the scenes responsibilities of our schools’ leadership.
I was also in Algulitos, a program where high school students teach younger students Spanish. I led a classroom of second graders every Friday while integrating fun and learning. I was very excited to be involved in this program because it was an opportunity to be a successful role model for younger children. I developed many friendships ...
For my externship I worked at Heshima, a center takeing care of physically and mentally challenged children, for 20 hours. The highlights of my experience were; successfully getting into the organization blindly, being able to work alongside the Heshima employees and watching Nelly, the headmistress’s way of doing things. She, being the head of the school used a method of leadership I had not seen before.
I feel that this Coop experience was a great way for me to reflect on my abilities to be a quality educator. I feel that I would have gotten more out of this Coop experience if our school year would have ended a little later, but overall, I think I received a lot from this time. My Coop was at my work at Head Start PDPY in North Platte. The center is a newly renovated room, so it is nice and clean with lots of storage space. Overall, I really enjoy working in the space because it is convenient and although it is small, we are able to make it work well. I felt that I grew as a professional and educator during the time at my coop. There were some specific things that I really felt I grew on as I was co-teaching my preschool children. This quarter
I enjoyed this experience so much, that I decided to go back to volunteer for Change Point, and will be going there once a week. This experience had the impact it did because I got to connect with the community in which change Point serves and help assist others. By doing this, I gained hands-on experience in which will help me in my future career. I also was able to enhance my skills in being a leader and in communication. The parenting classes that I taught to others not only helped them but also helped me. Each day I was there, I took valuable tools home for myself to be the best mother for my
...child. I had no choice but to shape up and make a way for the both of us. Having a child made me realize that life is not all fun and games as my mother would say. I learned that in life there are responsibilities. I truly believe that had I not had a child at an early age, I would still be a wild absentminded party girl and who knows what else may have happened.
I was fortunate enough to have spent my last two summers as a high school student actively engaged in numerous ways. Two summer ago, I decided to be a counselor of a wonderful enrichment program called Camp Invention, a renowned science camp for young children to explore and invent creatively. During this 40 hour volunteer service, I learned how to handle children with both care and responsibility in a subject I am greatly passionate about. In addition, I also was responsible for my employment as a cook at Hwy 55. During the most recent summer, I attended the NC Governor’s School for Natural Science, a six week residential program that focuses on integrating academic disciplines with the world around us. This was an enlightening experience,
I am grateful for the opportunity to have volunteered at the elementary school. It opened my eyes to a few of the problems in our communities. I was able to make others aware of those problems through volunteering and being proactive. I am going to continue with the program for as long as I am able to do so. If only we had millions of these programs across the globe, many other children would be able to benefit and develop the skills to succeed educationally.
ading annotations have improved the way I read. I am more organized and annotating is a good way to track what I have read. By annotating I remember the information I read longer than when I don’t. All the reading has given me practice annotating and I now annotate all the articles that I get from other classes because this has helped me turn annotating in a habit. The reading that I was most engaged in was Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space by Brent Staples. Brent told his story beautifully and I felt that I identified with Staples because I have faced discrimination myself. I had different reactions/emotions while reading his story and that’s what made it my favorite because if a story evokes strong emotions from your then the author
Once I did complete my volunteer work I felt like I was really prepared, knew what I was doing, and I did a good job. I felt really prepared because I have experience with work with kids before. Before the kids actually showed up from after school. Mr. Crawford explained and talked to be about the different kids that are going to be there. He went over some other things with me as well. When the kids got there, I helped past out their afternoon snack. I helped with some of their homework, and later I got to play games with them all. The kids there were funny and I mean very funny because the whole entire time that was with them. They were making jokes and telling stories about their zday as well. It felt like I didn’t have to watch T.V. when
I had the opportunity to observe different age group of students. The majority of my hours were experiencing the swim classes with high school students which is the grade level I would like to teach. I have gained some experience when observing them. I was also able to experience the teacher- student engagement and a learning environments throughout most of my observations. Throughout my fieldwork experience with the swimming classes I was able to observe the different approaches many of the swim coaches had when teaching their team new skills. I have learned to how to be patient and understanding when working with large groups of people. I also learned that I should push my future students to do their best and have high expectations from them. My field work experience has also taught me to have the passion and magic for teaching which will make a classroom more fun and engaging. Through my fieldwork experiences and observations I was able to learn lots of new things that will guide me to become a successful teacher in the future. This experience was an all-around learning experience because I got to learn more about the students, teachers, coaches and overall myself and how I want to portray myself in my future
This experience as a whole provided me with the opportunity to show my professional quality as an educator, a cooperative team member, and a lifelong learner. A few things that I continuously had to reflect on throughout this experience was my self-competence, my performance as well as the children’s, and of course my professional demeanor which directly impacted the effectiveness of my planning, teaching and...
Over the course of the writing year I have learned many new skills. It was very helpful to learn these skills because know I know how to use them in real writing and speaking.
It was where I went to pre-school at which seems like forever ago, but it was turned into a daycare. Compared to my first job this one was so much better. The only thing I couldn't stand was getting up at 6:00 in the mornings. I have always thought about being a teacher, but I learned expeditiously that being a teacher is not what I wanted my career to be. I love kids, but I don’t think I could handle a big group of kids everyday. A few of the kids would never listen so I got to see what it was like to be the “bad guy” for getting onto the kids (now I know how my parents feel). I was able to see a few of the kids last week and every single child was happy to see me and it filled me up with joy knowing that they were happy to see me too. I think that is the best part working with
One of the best parts was seeing the creativity and ingenuity of all the children, while they took part in this program. One girl was really shy, but she had a lot of really imaginative ideas and when it came time to present she had a lot to say about her project. Now it has been four years since we did this camp, and I have seen her at church and seen her grow as a person. I hope all the children that expressed their love of learning and intellectual curiosity continue to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs and have the ability to graduate from high school and further their
