Disappearing Honeybees

The consequence of the disappearing honeybees impacts human beings at the highest levels on the food chain, presenting an extremely grave threat to the survival of human beings. According to the alleged statement made by Albert Einstein, in case the bees vanishes from the surface of the earth, human beings will only have a maximum of four years to live because without bees, there will be no more pollination, plants or animals, thus no man (Eccleston 11). This statement underscores the significance of the presence of bees and their role within the ecosystem especially with the recent debate of the disappearance of bees from the surface of the earth. Scientists have recently expressed their concerns about the extinction of marine animals as well …show more content…

There have been many theories regarding the decline in the population of the honeybees. There are natural stressors and human factors that some scientists have argued to have resulted in this decline. For instance, some of the natural stressors that scientists relate to CCD include the pathogens and parasites like mites, fungi among others (Steier and Patel 498). On the other hand, the human activities are such as exposure of the bees to pesticides, taking the bees across long distances for pollination of the commercial crops in addition to poor nutrition to mention a few. The researchers that are studying the disappearance of the adult honeybees are still mystified by the manner in which the decrease of the bees has taken place. For instance, there are no dead bees that can be found even close to the hives to examine them for any possible cause of the disappearance. Some of the causative agents that some scientists have suggested and others have investigated include the …show more content…

One of the common factors in all the reported CCD cases is poor nutrition. This simply implies that there is a likelihood that the CCD is linked to stress as a result of poor nutrition. Scientists argue that poor nutrition may make the bees highly susceptible to harm from parasites and diseases. Typically, a bee relies on the pollen to get protein, minerals and fat which helps it through the normal lifecycle. One can argue that this evidence is not so strong due to the notion that intergenerational life cycles can be a significant factor in the disappearance of the bees and CCD phenomena. During summer time, the worker bees undergo a 6-week lifecycle. Some of the bees spend some weeks inside the hive while the forages spend the time outside. After 30 days’ elapses, the foragers die because of old age. When such bees near death, they fly off and do not come back (Berger
