Disagrees With Emma Watson's Speech On Gender Equality

There are many different types of readers, but each reader has a different point of view towards a subject. When the subject becomes controversial then it becomes a bigger deal and readers start to have different opinions towards this controversial subject, like the Emma Watson speech. In her speech she talks about how the United Nation and her want to accomplish gender equality everywhere, so they want to invite more men and boys to join this campaign. As a result to her speech a reader might have a different opinion towards this. One reader might agree with her speech, while another reader might disagree with her speech about her trying to accomplish gender equality.

Person one agrees with Emma Watson that there should be gender equality

and that everyone should get involved. Throughout the Emma Watson speech she keeps on mentioning how she would like more males to join her HeForShe campaign because it would make the cause stronger (1). Reader one agrees with her because some males are seen as great leaders which would make Emma Watson’s campaign HeForShe look stronger and important. Another reason reader one agrees with Emma Watson is because when she says that there are some women that are helping to change gender equality without them knowing (1). This proves that even though some of the women are being being put down by gender equality there are other women that helping without them realizing it. This also proves that women can also be good as men when it comes to having power. Additionally, reader one would agree that more males should join her HeForShe campaign because she gives and example of when Hillary Clinton gave a speech about women rights and only thirty percent of her audience were male (1). She was surprised how not many males attended her speech. This showed that not many males are supporting female rights but Emma Watson would like to change that, she would like more males supporting females because they can be a close friend or family member. Emma Watson would like for more people to join her campaign because if not that many people show their support it would take longer to achieve gender equality (1). Reader one agrees with the Emma Watson campaign because this reader know that she is doing her best in contributing with the community even though people think that she is only doing this to get more fame. This reader also agrees with her because they would not like to see that it is taking a long time to reach gender equality.
Reader two disagrees with Emma Watson’s speech, reader two thinks that she is making all the men seem as the bad guys that are not doing anything help in gender equality.

For example, when she starts her speech she says “we need everyone to be involved” and then she switches and says “we want to try and galvanize as many men and boys as possible” (1). At first she says that everyone should get involved in her campaign but then as she continues she says that more men and boys should get involved in her campaign. Reader two disagrees because this reader thinks that Emma Watson is saying that not many men care about equality when some men do care. Reader two also disagrees with Emma Watson because she is trying to say that all men are haters because women are trying to become as equal as the men (1). This person disagrees because not every men hate women because they are trying to fight for what is right for them. Some of the men like helping women because they think that gender equality should be equal to both male and female. To add on to this, reader two disagrees with Emma Watson because this reader thinks that she is only doing this so that she can get more attention. In her speech she questions the audience by saying “You might be thinking who is this Harry Potter girl? And what is she doing up on stage at the UN” (1). This also causes the reader to distrust her speech because she is only an actress and that she is only doing this to get more fame. Reader two disagrees

with Emma Watson’s speech because this reader thinks that Emma Watson is not capable of handling this camping since she is only an actress.
In overall, Emma Watson's speech was effective because it used many interesting facts like when she used her personal experience to backup her campaign. Also when she talked about the percentage of males that assisted the Hillary speech about women's rights making her speech sound more professional and interesting. When she uses the word “we” to show how she wants everybody to join and participate in her campaign. By having two different readers interpret and read Emma Watson's speech differently it allows each reader to express their own opinion about the subject of gender equality. It also allows to demonstrate how not everyone thinks the same and that each reader's opinion can have different effects on each subject making it controversial.
